Upgrade your apartment with these easy DIY ideas
Does your room seems boring to you? Don't worry, we've got it covered! Here are some crazy cool crafts and DIYs that will definitely leave you inspired. Just prepare some cement and polymer clay.
DIY lamp stand
If even Ikea lamp stands look boring to you, it is time to create something unique. Take 10-12 old books that you won't read anymore and mix a bowl of cement. Put the books in the cement mixture one by one and then place them one on another randomly to create a column. Let dry. Well done! Now you can put your lamp on this unique handmade lamp stand that makes your room look so cozy :)
Easy planters
Do you like plants and flowers in your house? So do we! However, common planters may look boring. Here is a simple DIY idea for you. Take a pair of rubber gloves for cleaning and fill them in with some cement. Put both gloves in a big bowl to create a round shape and let dry. Carefully cut off and remove the gloves. Fill the cement hands with ground ans plant your favorite flowers. By the way, it can be a really nice gift idea for your family and friends.

    I showed this to my uncle who is contractor and he told me to reinforce cement using fiberglass otherwise in time being i am looking at broken craft all over. It will increase load bearing capacity quite a lot. Also to properly wet the cement after hardening for few days as well (its depends type upon cement though). Also to mix waterproofing agent for flowering pots.

    Cement sets by absorbing water not by drying out. Take care not to let your cement dry too quickly or it will be weak and crumbly, particularly on the surface. If you are making a relatively thin cast like some shown in this video, keep it damp for at least 24 hours so that it sets properly.

  • @atmosphyrellc6067

    @atmosphyrellc6067

    Yes, it cures by hydration, so the longer it is wet, the stronger it will be. If you want it to be very strong, after the initial set up, about 8 hour, you either submerge it in water, or at least water it down with a spray bottle.

  • @grizzlygrizzle

    @grizzlygrizzle

    Жыл бұрын

    @@atmosphyrellc6067 -- It would also be stronger with the addition of some fine sand to act as an aggregate. The way cement works is that it forms crystalline rods that attach to the aggregate, and the aggregate acts as a stabilizer, because it provides something that doesn't expand or contract or absorb water or shrink as much when it cures. Also, the more water that is added in the mixing, the more shrinkage will occur.

    @@grizzlygrizzle Absolutely, I was just trying to keep it simple to just keep it at least from cracking. The old expression is aggregate never shrinks is true, only the cement does. So the more agg the less you will have shrinkage. I would suggest a 1 portland to 3 sand ratio for these kinds of projects. It also would be great if there was a plasticizer or water reducer added so you have better flow and less water.

    There is no limit to creativity! :-) Anybody doing the book stand covered in cement should consider the weight. Books have a density similar to solid wood. Likewise, concrete planters could be heavy, too. Users should get strong anchors to support those AND make sure the ceiling they use is strong enough to support something (probably need a beam for support).

    I liked the 3 legged stool idea. I would go 4 legs and make plant stands for outdoor as they are often fairly expensive and cement lasts longer than wood. I would probably make them rectangular rather than round. I would use metal poles for the legs. Also the casting resin jewelry idea for a necklace pendant was nice.

    Concrete is cement + rocks/sand (or other aggregates like those). Look for plain old Portland Cement, not something like Quickcrete.

  • @brasseureric
    @brasseureric4 жыл бұрын

    Nicely done! If I may, cement does not "dry", rather it "sets" or "hardens". This is important because the water is essential to the hardening process of the cement. A mix of cement that would dry out before it sets, would be fragile. Especially for tiny objects that are not enclosed during the hardening process, they need to be kept in a moist environment. Maybe just place a plastic bag lousily around them. Concrete pillars inside rivers are the hardest because they stay in water for years. They never dry out.
