DIY Steel Bird Feeder | Simple Fence Post Cap
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I designed this steel bird feeder to be a fun, easy project for those that are new to welding. Using paper simple patterns, it is straight forward to transfer the design to a piece of tube. This project is currently featured on Miller's WIYW (What's In Your Weekend) Series.
I will be using the Miller, Multimatic 220, provided by Miller for use in this video along with all of the required PPE. Thank you Miller for your continued support! #MillerPartner, #MillerWelders

This welding project would be excellent for capping a fence post, for example. You could practice MIG, TIG or Stick welding as this lends itself well to all three processes.

Thank you! The last videos I released have really suffered. Koi Pond Series, Monkey, Deck Chair, etc… really got zero traction. I have been kinda waiting out some of the larger projects I have hoping that I can figure out how to do it better and maybe release some short videos, too. I just strongly dislike the vertical format…

So far it hasn’t been a problem. Although there is one finch that digs until they find the seed they want. Otherwise it has been pretty popular in the neighborhood and I went through about 30lbs of bird seed this month.
I much prefer wood. I have a problem with a birdfeeder made of heavy gauge steel, but I do love the design and execution. I did like the squirrel comment. If I were to make a feeder it would definitely have anti-squirrel features.
Great film, well shot and entertaining. Bird feeder is sick. Love the use of existing forms. The design even accounted for the throat depth and height of the bandsaw. Mahalo for sharing! : )

Part of the reason for the combined materials…. The birds do like landing on the steel though…
It would be interesting to know just how bulletproof this really is…
Nice at winter is was freeze at hot summer it will cook
I listened between the lines! Condoning the shooting of squirrels?!?!? :) Nice vid per usual.
I love that it really clearly got some design thought that's gone into it. Did the roof overhang enough to direct rain past the seeds?
@Grunblau
Жыл бұрын
Hasn’t been an issue and it has rained for like 3 weeks straight! There is a 1/16” slot all around the floor that allows for drainage. I did a version where the roof extended the entire way and I think it would make the birds nervous about being so enclosed. Drip line is basically at the edge of the seeds where the bird stands…

Add green filter when you doing welding
@Grunblau
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I wanted to show an actual view for this video since Miller gave me the welding helmet. The earlier shots with the copper, for example, I had my aperture too far open. The later shots are through the helmet and are not altered. I am still playing with it and have actually adapted the welding filter directly to my camera. It is incredibly clear and it is nice to see all kinds of blues, yellow and orange instead of the usual monochromatic green.
