DIY Star Wars Podracer from Household Junk :: Scratch-building a desert speeder with a Rodian pilot
I'm new to scratch building but loving every minute of it so far! In this first video I make a scratch-built podracer from old plastic bottles, guitar string, a coat hanger, clay, and even a Tic-Tac container. The energy binders also light up, which is kinda neat!
I was inspired by other builders here on KZread, particularly these guys here:
Boylei Hobby Time: / boyleihobbytime
Studson Studio: / @studsonstudio
So thank you very much for the inspiration and building tips! Can't wait for my next one! And in case you want to drop by an say hi, you can find me on Instagram here: gameyybuilds
Thanks for watching!

Apologies for the constant changing brightness levels. I realized halfway through filming this that my camera settings weren't correct. Also, the low resolution! So much to learn about doing video... The next will be better!

Hello hello! I'm surprised it took KZread so long to recommend gameyy's channel to me, I've been watching your and stud's videos for over a year now and lots of other crafters and scratchbuilders too. Love love love watching what you guys do, absolutely incredible!
This podracer would definitely make Sebulba nervous
The puns are strong with this one!
I just got here but I gotta say that this is awesome!
I think a few greeblies thrown on the clothespins would have been just enough to make them not look like clothespins anymore. Super fun build to watch though!
I love the little pilot!
Very cool. Plz keep them coming!
Awesome job bro, love the format and commentary, and your the build was awesome throughout. I was honestly surprised at the number of subscribers from the quality of the video, but now you've got another one. Keep up the good work my man

You have an excellent eye for repurposing. Your model would be right at home in the SW Universe! 900th Like!
I've been binging your videos for a few hours and I like the work you do. You've mentioned Boylei a few times... and to be honest I like your work much more. His pieces lack personality and are more often than not model kits slapped on a base. I feel you have a better handle on the nuances of a piece that gives it a sense of realism.
The pod racing scene was a "Hallmark of cinema"? Pretty bold claim. Great video btw 👌
@gameyybuilds

I stand by that claim! It’s aged very well and has been the inspiration for many other race scenes, even if the movie as a whole left much to be desired!
Flappy things = variable afterburner exhaust nozzle, they help prevent back pressure and also fully adjustable for maximum exhaust acceleration 👍🏼

I also stared at those star wars books in Borders
Great build. And I'm glad to have gone back to your early work to see how good you are and how also your progress. Keep up the good work sir.

It was great-the Binders really look nice! And the clothespins really did come out okay.
Jet engine lesson; basically, starting at the front, the fan blades at the intake are called the compressor blades, (not the turbine) which suck in the air and (you guessed it) compress it before fuel is added and ignited in the combustion chamber. The exhaust gasses passes through another set of fan blades, which are called the turbine blades, and which in turn, drive the compressor blades. The exhaust then exits the back of the engine through what are called ejector flaps (the trapezoid shaped flaps you didn’t know the term for). On military planes, there’s a secondary combustion chamber between the turbine and ejector flaps, which is called the afterburner.

Thanks so much! And yeah I was definitely trying to convey the movement here, which was the main reason for making the podracer sit on the base at a slanted angle and adding the dust. Appreciate your feedback!

Not bad. If I may, the racers in the movie were typically much bigger than what you made, meaning while it's probably functional in universe, your racer is SUPER tiny. The guy should have been maybe a fourth of his size if you wanted to make it more scale accurate.
Hey I made a podracer too... against my better judgement

Can you make something out of edible components. Thinking of those tic tacs
I so wish that 'using the Force' did involve going "Uuuurrrghhh...!" [and probably making a straining poo face as well] - wouldn't Star Wars just be amazing if they did that..?!!

like a lot of youtube scratchers i have notice that you also do not know how to use a knife .on several sections of your video you are seen cutting towards your hands.mainly the part between thumb and first finger .not only will you lose blood ...and quite a lot if you hit a vien which the hands have lots of ...but also you will hit tendons and guiders which make your hands move .re watch the land scape carving section ...youll see what i mean .stay safe podder .

You're absolutely right, and actually I cut myself on my last build doing just this thing. Unfortunately however, I find that often the proper way/direction/angle of cutting feels very awkward and unnatural, especially when working with small pieces that are difficult to hold down. Thanks for looking out, though!
You can’t know the name of the Rodian race and ignore that the two characters you’re mentioning are the one and only Greedo. Obvious comment bait. I’m here to serve. 😅

Seriously though. Are the engines the pods of the podracer or is the cockpit the pod? I will never sleep soundly until I find the answer. 🤣🫣 Loved the video. Amazing build as always. I thoroughly enjoy what you make and your editing is absolutely incredible too. I hope the subs start pouring in soon. You deserve so so so much more.
