DIY SPRAY ON GRIPTAPE?! SKATE HACKS!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Today the Braille Skateboarding Team looks at some comment-suggested skateboarding hacks to see if we can find a quick and easy method of spraying on our griptape! What we found was RUST-OLEUM Heavy Duty Truck Bed Liner and if it's anything like line-x, it should work as a suitable replacement for griptape. This is our skate experiment, let us know in the comments below if you think it'll work!

I have some paint with sand in it, that is used to make outdoor stairs less slipperry and it really feels like sandpaper. You should be able to get that in the states as well, so maybe thats the next thing to test.

I use that on concrete pillars too. I use the SIKA brand.

Imagine adding your own sand to paint... some genius could try and do it themselves but it sounds a little complicated

They gotta do this one
What's been around forever is "Shark Grip" additive powder. You spray something (even with clear varnish) and then sprinkle it on, to make a grippy surface. I've done it on home-made Endo/Balance Boards, available at any Home Depot!

They actually did a video on this a bit over a year ago, if I remember right. At least it was something applied just like you said
When it comes to bed liner, you need to keep a certain distance when spraying the stuff. too close and heavy amounts will smooth out the liner instead of having that texture you all were expecting (about 6-10" spray distance). Also, I would recommend a brand like Raptor bed liner kit or also the spray bottle, since I have the most experience with it when I get jobs to do full size truck beds, bumpers or grill guards, it has great durability and resistance to scratching. The spray bottle one, would probably work way better than the one yall have purchased.

And do more than one layer... it gets more textured when layered. Spray a layer... wait 10/15 minutes, do another... about 3 or 4 times.

They need to do a light sanding with a medium grit first also. They’re spraying directly onto a slick surface 🤣

Would it also not adhere better to bare metal rather than wood? I would assume the substrate the product was designed for would work a lot better.
@abelhernandez3225
Жыл бұрын
@@Camelotsmoon yea thats true, but since its just straight wood, a adhesion promoter or a gray primer thats scuffed or sanded after will allow a better grab to the primer
I think you need a slightly rough surface to get the spray to stick correctly. Otherwise I guess the advantage of these spray on products is that even if it gets damaged you can always just touch it up in a few seconds
I love how heavily used the ramps and obstacles are now. I remember seeing the Brail House in its current setup for the first time when it was pristine, now it's dark grey from heavy use. You guys should find the least used object and go ham on it
Yooo Nigel, that spray-on bed-liner is pro actually. Def recommend. 👌 works better on metal than wood 😂
Hey dig your vids. Always creative. I think the spray liner is a low quality product but maybe scuff with 80 grit before spraying to promote adhesion! You guys should try this again but with rubberized undercoating instead. I'd be interested in seeing the results. 🤙
Lmaooo that was perfect Gabe, * omg dude your nailing it* 🤣🤯😂😭
You guys need to build a tandem skateboard and see if two people can work together to pop an ollie or drop in and such.
Definitely needed to sand down the skateboard before applying and read the label you need two or three coats
0:46 - Nigel: "Does it say shake? Shake, shake, shake Senora!" LOL that's hilarious! 🤣
Thanks for the board!
So glad to see Ricky in a video again 😄
this was a crazy diy project on the boards Braille
The life hacks we learn from braille
Maybe try shingles as grip tape? Like actual roof shingles. Coule be cool. Will be messy and gritty everywhere after the fact.
I'm finally able to Ollie more consistently now after a month
You get what you pay for. Try the expensive textured kind, I've been nothing but satisfied, and more than happy with the results when I made a custom downfiring subwoofer box for 12" Kicker and needed to dress it up with simple paint. The more I looked online I started to realize that Herculiner, name brand truck liner for Home Depot & surprisingly affordable, would actually improve acoustic longevity and clarity without looking like a cheap rattle can job. It actually improved the acoustic performance like crazy. Not to mention the sweet, easy to clean, textured and eye appealing finish🔥❤️ Rich deep clear low low crisp bass hits❤️ best random car audio decision/hack ever.
I about died laughing when Nigel mentioned the monkey thing. Such a great exercise that reminds me of when I first joined.
you should line-x the nose and tail and see if it improves the `pop' of the board, great video as always
That Bend Over Shake The Can Thing You Did Is A Mega "PAUSE" 😂😂😂😂
That was interesting 😂 maybe some coats next time? Fun to watch either way!
Herculiner from Walmart has sand in it and would work great. It’s roll on Bedliner and I have the whole inside floor done with it in my Jeep. I recommend maybe giving it a try… maybe???
@DIYskate

This. It's expensive, but works as well as Rhino liner or Raptor liner professional truck liner. I use it regularly as an undercoating in car restorations.
I got the professional Rhino Liner on the entire interior of my Jeep up to the dash. Way back in 2007 and it still is holding up great! Worth the extra money to get it done professionally like Nigel said
I did my trailer bed with spray adhesive and black beauty sandblasting sand , the fine stuff and it was literally like I gripped my trailer .
From the amount of camo Nigel wears I bet he takes his truck stuff seriously. So happy to see Ricky. Hope he is healing quickly.
i think u need the military grade stuff. the stuff ur using is for small farmers truck beds .it just gives it a little more protection over the bed liner u already have
5:53 ya, when applied properly and given maximum amount of time to cure.
uzi's kickflip at the start of the video was cleannnnnnnn
try vht wrinkle plus, used in engine bays for high temp, definitely will get dry with texture, grip may be questionable tho!
But what about Rhino Lining TuffGrip spray on bed liner...?

100 percent what I was thought they were going to do! I think Rhino would actually work amazing.
I love that someone clearly made Nigel turn the Cookies beanie inside out XD
should do it with 3-4 coats of the stuff. maybe with that Shark Grip additive stuff that other guy is talking about between the 2nd and 3rd coat.
You guys should try cream grip non abrasive grip tape and see how it compares to the dkl non abrasive grip tape.
Try next: LUCID COLORED CLEAR GRIP SPRAY RED. The Lucid color grip kit is made out of recycled glass and Lucid's Clear Liquid. This is a water-based, hard acrylic emulsion polymer that exhibits excellent stain and water-resistant properties. The water based premium grade, non-yellowing, clear acrylic top coat is suitable for almost all finished surfaces. Would love to see you guys all do a deck with the liquid clear red grip tape. @@brailleskateboarding try gripping a deck with a roofing shingle
Try this but with rough gravel on the board first for extra grip
They make like a grit:paint compound that you mix and paint on and it will shred your shoes apart because it’s so grippy.
Try KILZ over armor deck paint from Lowes. It's pretty grippy.
So happy Ricky made an appearance.
Try autozone special lol vvt wrinkle black for grip tape high heat or undercoating
You should make a kicker and cover it with line X and sk8 it
my friend used roof shingles as grip-tape you should try it our
Darkslides shred grip tape also. It's like Casper's.... they shred the grip tape
there is a better spray in bed liner from U-pol and Rhino liner but you need an air compressor
Got to do the bed liner out of the paint can that you roll onto it way better quality
id be interested to see this with professionally installed liner
Gabe got that freestyle shake
You guys should see if you can get a sheet big enough from a place called Talon grips , to grip a skateboard.
I found a can of paint with grit in it that I used on my XJ Cherokee and it's like grip tape.
WE LOVE BRAILLEEEEE ❤️ POST NOTI ON TOP ❤️ i wanna meet you guys so bad 🙁
gotta do it with line x
Lmaoooo Nigel Made this video gold u can tell he been that way his hole life 😂
Funny thing, my dad had this paint that would dry and would be grippy, whenever my griptape was FLAT, I would paint my griptape and do like 2-3 coats and it kinda helped but destroyed my board hahah
Try rust-oleum antislip clear next. Says the finish is more like sandpaper.
Spray a layer, through sand across it right after, then spray another light layer.
Glad to Ricky back! Where did he go?
Yoooo lol I once had to do that in my CSMs office because I didn’t salute after my article 15 reading in the army lol
You should put spray on adhesive and use beach sand.
Now that you gave it texture you should respray the board with the liner spray again .
0:35 Mikes truck need to come back another line x series do the Braille beginners board
Maybe if you sanded deck and after wipe clean with acetone and put little bit off sand over deck before spraying might have been almost like normal. Wouldn't come off as easy then.
Line x covered shoe’s plus line x covered board?
You guys should do flex seal
nigel with the cookies hat lmaoo
Youre supposed to do like 2-3 coats of that stuff and let it wait 1 hour between coats and 72 hours before really doing anything on it for a full cure so unless yall did that it wasn't really a fair assessment.
Cool
I bet it fuses to the wood of the deck differently than the metal truck bed. That could be why it's scraping off

Maybe if he didnt spray half a can on in one shot... supposed to be applied in thin layers to build up a texture.

It 100% does. I tried this same product on a scraped up wooden surface with metal edging years back. It still sticks to the metal, but it never really adhered to the wood.
We need a two man teams game of skate now. After those tandem tricks. Please make it happen.
Nigel with them buttery tre's
What if you dumped a bucket of copper bb's into the mega ramp?

CAN WE GET A TEAMWORK TRICKS GAME OF SKATE
Nice
Nigal be smokin Cookies. Nice
you need 3 coats in this order: sand the top > wipe it off with tack cloth > adhesive spray promoter to make it extra "grippy" sticky so it doesnt peel off (let it dry and cover it with a box so dust and stuff doesnt land on it > 1st coat(same trick with the box for a few hrs) > 2nd coat (same trick with the box for a few hrs) > 3rd final coat( and let it harden for 2 days)

LMAO at Nigels "test"
Nigel was referring to the Monkey f√¢k€® 🤣. My favorite.
should try plasti dip its actually really grippy even though its smooth and would grip to your shoes and not fck them up
Dan, you should get a perm.
Nigel's going to put Gabe in the punitentiary 🤣🤣
You should test crupie wheels
Im curious did you guys read all of the instructions??? Because for 1 you should of prepped the board first by sanding it down first... Then wiped it down... Then spray the board with the spay... And you have to apply more then once...

You guys should do a worst board at the park gets a new board video, but do a game of skate on the worst board
I did spray on bedliner in a can, worked fine and lasted bout 3 years..
You should get rhino liner!!
Rust-Oleum is amazing at one thing, ok maybe 2 things.... RUST AND HIGH HEAT MOTOR PAINT
Liquid flex tape coating over gravel grip tape
Needs to be the rubberized truck bed coating
Try rino liner
Do the same but add some sand might work ;)
you need to try raptor paint
