At this rate y'all will soon have a full service DYI machine shop. Love the spot welder but I could see over time your prints not holding up well around the electrodes.

The 3D prints are extremely thick and seem robust, but in the case that they do go bad over time (which I honestly believe would be over several years) you could always just spend a few hours printing a new piece 😁. @@ActionBOX I meant the cut in the video after you supposedly weld the ruler. I was being ironic so as to say it lightly either didn't work or got pretty nicely welded to the steel screws.

The Longer printers have a lot of Quality Control issues from what I've seen. I highly suggest something like the Voxelab Aquila instead, but make sure you update it's firmware.

Its true that I have had more issues with the longer than the Creality, but it still served me really well. my primary issue with it was the servos slipping, causing the print to suddenly shift mid way (so the layers dont line up). This only happened twice.

Damn that fan has a wide motor (2:33). Why is it so much wider than on CPU fans?

It’s an all metal fan. Definitely an overkill for the application but it’s all I could buy in the limited time I had to complete this project. Great catch by the way. Cheers, Dave

How much current were you able to get with the re-wired transformer. Typically you want several thousand amps for welding 24-26 gauge sheetmetal.

It’s perhaps 1200amps. I can guarantee it’s not several thousand amps. Sorry 🤷🏻‍♂️

It really depends on the transformer you use, wire, electrodes, welding time, etc. I don’t know exactly but I’d assume it’s much much thicker than the thin ruler we used

So when I go to download the step files it's has all the non printable parts separately but then the printable parts are all in one body. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm using FreeCAD maybe that's the problem.

If used just a few times for a home project then no. If used constantly as an industrial machine then definitely. Great question and thanks for the support 😃.

@@andyspoo2 just checked it out. I have not seen it before. Looks cool. All portable welders have similar designs. Perhaps it originated from that design. I see it was done many years ago. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️. Thanks for sharing

You should've probably talked some more about the dangers of dismantling a microwave. Since it may still hold a deadly charge in its caps. (unless pretty much every other video about using salvaged microwaves has lied)
