After many iterations, we have finally made mini DIY shredders a reality with our latest SHREDII 5.0 design. This homemade shredder was tested against wood, plastic, aluminum, steel, and even the indestructible Nokia 3310. This shredder is a great addition to our DIY machine shop, and we use it primarily for recycling 3D prints by taking the granules that come out of the DIY shredder and using them with INJEKTO 2.0, our DIY injection molding machine, to create new plastic injected parts.
This SHREDII is designed for use with two horsepower AC motors and two high torque gearboxes, and in this video we also tested its strength by shredding pure copper rings that we have leftover from a DIY vacuum furnace that we are building. We will be releasing that video along with a new DIY CNC, DIY Lathe, DIY Metal 3D printer and DIY EDM V2 videos in the near future.
We hope this DIY shredder will enable those with minor shredding requirements to continue moving forward with their recycling projects.

I use a grinder with a wood carving blade and a funnel. Cheap and all parts readily available, no expensive 50 or so blades to fit together etc

Handheld grinder or table mounted? Also, how do you keep the bits from flying all over the place?

@@toxomanrod Hand held angle grinder mounted on a bit of plate steel and then a long funnel around the blade with a small hole for the ground bits to exit. It can grind bits to a powder or larger bits depending on the individual blade type being used, 3 blades, 4 blades, just look up wood carving angle grinder disc. I'll upload a video one day, you can see my other 3D printed projects on my channel.

Do you still sell you 3.0? I don't need a shredder this strong, just 3.0 strength for plastic bottles. I like the 3.0 design best for my application.

What is the gear ratio of the gearbox? I'm curious how much tourque this would make.

@@ActionBOX never have. just a green business idea. people throw away old toilets which are made of porcelain. these could be crushed to dust then built back into something valuable IMO.

Crushed up terra cotta is a soil ammendment that increases cation exchange capacity so that sandy soils can hold onto more nutrients. It is thought to be a constituent of terra preta.

Hey that's sweet! I've been doing "small" shredders for like 9 years now (lots of vids on channel). If you have any questions about shredders I'd be happy to help.

Let’s see how it would hold up against the Nokia this time. I noticed even though you still used a keyway, the keyway is bigger which may make it stronger compared to the smaller key before.

Seeing your hands that close to the blades makes me so nervous. Imagining what would happen if you accidentally caught your fingers and started getting pulled down, when would it stop shredding your hand? Until it gets to your shoulder?😬 For your sake, and the sake of anyone who tries this, please implement some safety features

  • @ActionBOX

Thanks for bringing that up! SHREDII does have safety covers that cover the blades to protect the user. For the sake of the demonstrations in this video, we removed the covers and took extra precautions. Hope you enjoyed the video :)
