Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a DYI of making a silicone mold for pen blanks made from resins. I've decided to make this a 3 part series of, making the mold, making a blank, then turning the blank/pen assembly. Subscribe so you don't miss out on the next parts of this series.

    THANK YOU!! I've been searching and searching, I just felt like I was putting in the wrong search parameters, but I found "Blanks" and "Mold Housing" seems to get me more results.

    Thank you for this video. I been able to make at least 5 mold for different types of pen kits. I was even able to get the same jewelry tray as you.

    Thanks for the video. I have been using your ideas and have what I find easier. Instead of drilling through the blank and then using plumbers putty just drill about 1/2inch deep in each end. Saves a lot of work and turns out great.

    But what if you don't get it perfectly centered from each direction?

    Great idea. Thanks. Would also be good to figure out a way to to taper the hole so you can use different sized tubes maybe.

    @@sreihart just use a depth stop on your drill press or a piece of tape on the bit.

    I am glad you made a video on this process. I wanted to make a video of making this mold, but I have nerve made a video before. I have made a few molds using the same method that you show in this vid, but my mold had four blanks in each one. Keep up the good work.

    Instead of using the plumber's putty, you could fill the hole with candle wax.

    Great video, planning on trying this myself. I think I will turn the blank round before I do the pour to save some time in the turning process later. Appreciate the help

    Is there a reason that you don’t use a tube in blank to make the mold?

    Hey, thanks a lot for this video. I appreciate you taking the time to show us how to make these. I want to make 2nd Amendment bolt action pens but I have an inkjet printer. Will the mod podge work on inkjet paper to keep it from bleeding? I heard you had to print with a laser printer so the ink didn't bleed when you add your alumilite. Any advise on that?

    sreihart actually there are a lot of folks that use ink jet printers so you should be fine, just make sure you use the Avery type labels , in my opinion the paper has more of an effect on the turn out than the ink type.

    How did the mold work in a pressure pot?

  • @steveoverton1736
    @steveoverton17367 жыл бұрын

    You mentioned that you use the mold to cast Alumalite. Do you put it in a pressure pot? If so, is alumalite forced into the void in the tube, past the plugs at each end?

    Yes, i do use a pressure pot. And most of the time i don't get any resin inside of the tube, but it has happened. I was actually thinking about remaking my molds with a little bit better design so that doesn't happen at all.
