DIY Sheet Metal Brake
I built this sheet metal bender to fabricate one of my on-going projects windowsills / tins. It just takes much more time to order these from a local tin specialized company and wait for them to make'em rather than fabricate a special bender and make them myself. It was a matter of a full days job. We are quite happy with the result. #bending #sheetmetal #metalbending #brake #metalbrake #DIY #homemade #DonnDIY #eestiyoutuber

Looks great! Does the job well & you can stand it up in a corner out of the way when not in use.
Nice and thnx from Suriname, simple and easy
You got to love this guy , like Da vinci , in his shop even though cold outside ,wearing a head toque still performing tasks so we in Canada and the rest of the world can see how to make things. Donn you are a very inspiring young man even scale as Jordan Peterson from Canada. I really love all your projects , just wish I had enough time to do some of them. Ben Epp Alberta
Hi Donn. Just found your channel. You make some great interesting useful pieces of machinery. Watching more from now on.
Excellent! Worked great! I liked the metal snip that you placed in the vice also. Thanx for sharin'!

+quaddingsous I attached the snip due to my limited space in the shop - I can put it away into the corner if not needed (no legs). Thanks for watching, I mean it. ;)
Приятно смотреть на твои труды! А особенно радует, что нет тупой музыки и ебучей рекламы! Благодарю, точно что-нибудь повторю из твоих самоделок!
Buddy you are the man i like your style !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 500% recommended
Great work. I hope my attempt comes close to yours. It will be my first project with my new everlast mig welder.
great man that's why you Donn diy demonstrate every step this project
I love watching amateur diyers! Reminds me of all the things my metalwork teacher drummed into us what not to do!
Genial, gracias por compartir.
You did a great job on this. I want to make a brake too. You can accomplish a lot with a grinder, an everlast and some metal.

Nice and portable. That is exactly what I need to make. There is nothing better than to make your own tools. My powerimig is coming in really handy.

Due to the small corner I work in the barn that can be heated temporarily like a green house I have to have portable tools that mainly grip in the vise like this bender. They take up small amounts of room when not used. Welder becomes handy indeed. It would be hard to fabricate something without one. Thanks for watching! ;)
Just a fantastic project and a great product to your windows. Thank you for sharing your amazing video. God bless you and your family

Thanks for sharing! Im currently in a project putting up a garage door opener in my shop. But the roof is too low, so I need some special brackets. Ok, well lets make them, except I don’t have a metal break, OK, lets make that too! Mines not as big as yours, maybe could fit 30” material in it.
Beautiful job 👏 👌

yea sheet metal benders are really handy when you need them
Скоро и я себе его сделаю!)))
What would you say is the maximum thickness this would bend? I do a lot of body work and this would be excellent for making 16-18 gauge patch panels if it can handle 16 gauge, which most inexpensive ones don't.
@DonnDIY
6 жыл бұрын
So 16 gauge is 1.59 mm. It might bend it but not the full width I guess. Would be better if it was made from thicker material.
Wisz, my friend, a great job, can you give the dimensions of these materials for the construction of this bent machine.
thank you for your work . great project. if would you build this again is there anything that you would do differently ? i mean is there any weak point in this design? i m trying to design something similar and i need ideas :)
@DonnDIY

+BisdremisKostas For the one-time use it's pretty good, but when working with it all the time I would install foot clamp system so I could hold the sheet in place with one of my feet. Right now I'm using just two nuts and a center "jack" right now to hold the sheet in place while bending. But I'm not using it that often so it works fine for me.
Very ,very Nice

Hi, nice job, i like your idea of how the top part is bolted down. How has it stood up to being used? Has it been strong enough? Would you change anything?

hmm, good job. I think if you tilted the support/press mast back at say a 45° you could put a break in past 99°. Just a thought. good job though.

Yup. I'm sure I'll have to make that change the next time I use this bender/brake.

Great video, very skillful. Two words of advice: goggles and gloves at ALL times. Nothing is worth losing your eyes.
I think it can't band 16 guage sheet

Better to make your own if you can. I hope to make one but on a much smaller scale with my everlast in a few weeks.

I needed the bender ASAP, actually I needed the window sills ASAP. thus I made the bender myself. ;) I've used it many-many times now and my friends have borrowed it too. So it has earned the stripes in my household.
Pretty cool. Too bad the window sill was an inch too wide 😂😂

Thank you very much - trying to figure out what I need for a stable 4 foot bender for 16 gauge 1/2 a 1 inch cage wire. @@DonnDIY
Does anyone think this break could be made out of heavy aluminum C channel? I’m going to bend 25 gauge aluminum flashing and that’s it. Would love some in put. Thanks!
@leehotspur9679
2 жыл бұрын
Yes you could but you would have to stiffen it up pretty good and reinforce the bending faces with metal or a composite material also make sure the sheet is not too cold and the forming radius is not too tight

No worries! I feel the awe of the spinning chuck and know the consequences of hooked sleeve. I usually roll'em up, at least on the hand that's closer to the chuck and don't fiddle around there for no reason. I use the shop usually when it's cold outside, the cold eventually cools down the whole building and I need to wear long sleeves so I don't get hypothermia.
