For years I have been searching for the right video tutorial to make DIY Roman shades and so glad I came across this video. Thank you sweet heart :)
This is one of the best diy Roman shade videos. I hope everyone finds it. U have given all the details on the sizing, edges, which cords to cut and even operation perfectly; above all showed it to the viewers in simple steps and instructions. No other video does this. Awesome job!
This has GOT to be the very best tutorial for roman shades I've found yet, and I have every intention of following your recipe. Thank you so much, Jennifer, for making this look so simple. I can't wait to get started.
I bought patio indoor outdoor curtains. Inexpensive if you have large large windows, and after you cut to size one side is already hemmed. For my bedroom I actually found panels that were 42 inches, and my windows were 42 and a half!
This is the best diy tutorial I've seen yet! Thank u for including details but keeping it simple! Great job!
Nice video! I've been wanting to do this for the longest time and hadn't found a nice tutorial that explained it like you did! You make it seem so easy and I can't wait to do this!
7 years ago and somehow I'm JUST finding you!! I've BEEN wanting to so this, but never understood most tutorials. You explained this so simplistically, yet didn't make me feel dumb! LOL thanks! Going make mine NOW! 😁
Thanks very much. This is the best tutorial out of all that I've viewed. You have been blessed with talent, and you are an excellent teacher. Keep up the good work...helping others.
I've watched several of these videos using old blinds and this is the easiest to follow - I will be trying this in the next couple of weeks. I've got a couple of windows that I want something different to try on them and I think this is it.
I stumbled across your video in the wee hours of the morning and I am so glad that I did. Although you make this task look so simple and easy. I will be brave enough to give this project a try. Thank you.
I'm confused as to what 29 people found to be thumbs-down worthy about this tutorial. Your lesson was simple, straight forward, and understandably to the point. I know exactly what to do now. Thank you for sharing this.

I don't know what 'direct to LV pattern' means. What is LV?
@AWGEst-ib2qv
7 жыл бұрын
I think evengelist robinson is asking if you know of a source to purchase fabric with the Louis Vuitton pattern (LV is short for Louis Vuitton). And, if you do know of a source, she'd like it if you could direct her to that source possibly through the source name, website, etc. At least, that's how I understand it....
Thank you SO much for this video, Jen! My cat got into my blinds and broke a few of them. I was about to buy new roman shades to replace them. But, I hated the idea of throwing out functional blinds out of vanity because I'm very conscious about the environment and participating in throw out culture. Now, I can fix the blinds AND make them more visually appealing AND I won't have to toss out the entire set of blinds! I'm beyond happy! I just hope this is as easy as you made it look....
This was absolutely amazing. You are so creative and I LOVE your videos.
Love the fabric you chose! This was excatly what I needed to learn because I don't want to spend extra money on custom blinds. Thanks for such a though the tutorial.
You video has been the clearest one to understand how to get it done. Thank you!
love your instructions, so straight forward.
Awesome tutorial!!! Thx for the clear & inspiring instructions!!!
Wow how clever you are thanks Jennifer that is a great idea to recycle old blinds
Probably the best window treatment diy for my apartment ❤
Luv it! so easy, awesome and inexpensive!
Video was very easy to follow and the shades look nicely done. Thanks!
Well done. You made it short, simple and clear. Thank you.
I can't wait to do this! Thank you for the video.
I loved this idea so much, that I made Roman shades for my bedroom, and it turned out great. Thank you for the tutorial! I will try this next in my kitchen nook.

So glad it worked for you! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the helpful videos! I wish I would've found your channel earlier. Like last year when I attempted to change the kitchen faucet!
The best and most simple diy tutorial for roman shades! Thank you gorgeous
beautiful!!!!!! I can't wait to try it
You’re a genius. Wow so easy to do and they look great.
I will definitely try this.Thanks for sharing.
I have watched heaps of videos,yours is the best, thank you.
Great tutorial thank you, although I'm curious can you open the windows?
Oh wow, amazing! Thank u for this video, God bless you!. You're very talented and creative :)
This worked like a charm for my large kitchen window. Six years later and they're still holding up.

Do you open and close the blinds on a daily basis? I’m wondering if they would work in a bedroom where we open and close on a daily basis?
Thanks for this video. I made one for my kitchen window. Excellent.
So cool! I'm going to do this DIY!!
This is a great idea is there any way that I can use this for top down bottom up shades with the system?
That’s genius! Thank you for sharing!
Questions: How do you know how much fabric, and when you mark it toward the beginning, are you marking on the back or the front?
What I don't see in your video is how to handle the pull cord at the top. Do you need to make a hole in the material to out the pull cord through?
Mine turned out so nice. I’m so happy!! You did a great job explaining everything too. I’d love to show you, but can’t figure out how to attach a video:)
Thank you for the video.. It was a great help when I did my blinds. Also do you have some simple Christmas decorations Thanks
Hi, Loved your video. By the way where did you bought those fabrics and do you mind sharing the name of it? Thanks.
Hi there, I am excited to try your tutorial but I have one question. I currently have faux wood blinds that do not have the cords that runs through the middle of each slate. It is so I can take the slates out and wipe them. Will it still work to turn these blinds into roman blinds .... we replaced our windows and the dark brown blinds no longer look good with white windows and trim. I appreciate your assistance.
Thank you so much! 🙌 You've just helped me save over $800 in having to buy custom shades. All my windows aren't standard sized, but have functioning blinds in them. Had another question... How does one do the back so they look good on both sides?
This is so helpful! Thank you!
Great video, thank you. What does the sun do to the glue over time. My windows get a lot of sun and I'd hat to see them start unraveling over time. Thanks again.
Thank you for the easy step by step project..
How many slats where left on the lager blind? And did you use the same formula for that one also?
The shades look like they are a cinch to make. Yes, I will construct this for myself!
I'm assuming the reused blinds were already measured to your window length Right? I have a problem where my windows aren't standard length , so basically I can't use ready made blind to do this project if over 72 inches long ?
Loved your tutorial very easy to follow have you made one with a lining
Good showing how to do it with old blinds. By the time you buy the cordless what have you saved?
This project is exactly what we were looking for, but it took us the longest time to figure out how to get the control string around to the front until we watch the end of your video very closely and saw that you brought it from behind 🙀
Very creative. Thanks!
Thanks just what i was looking for. I'll give these a try.
I would like to do this and line them so they will be white or cream on outside. Has anyone done that? Also, does this hold up for everyday use? Very nice tutorial thank you.
How do you wash the curtains?
Love it I did it turned out great thanks
Great Tuturial! Thank you!
I want to try this project but can I use E6000 glue on place of fabroc glue? Thanks.
Can I do this with black out curtains? Or do you recommend glueing extra fabric on the back side?
what if you want to use 1 to make 2 blinds?
I know you posted this some time ago but I am hoping you will still answer this question. I am making the exact same type of roman shade and also using a pull cord blind. How does that cord work with the fabric in front of the mechanism? I'm having trouble seeing or visualizing that.
Worked perfectly.
would faux wood blinds work?
Great tips...thanks😊👍👍
Brilliant!
Why do you cut the slats? You can just remove the bottom plastic caps and slide them out?
thank u i love it imgonna try this weekend
Fantastic!
How would you make this washable?
Thanks for this video; I’m making mine today.
Why do you have to take off the strings? It seems like they help support the blinds. Especially on long blinds.
Amaizing!!!!
thank you !!! Im totally inspired!!!!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! Saved me soooooooooo much $$$
Excellent idea
Genius level!
Ingenious!
AWESOMESAUCE!!!! Thank you so much!!! Redoing my bathroom and was about too throw those ugly blinds away no because I saw your video I’m gonna keep them 🌹🌷🌹🌷🌹🌷🌹🌷
Thanks up-cycled our blinds too Roman Blinds.
Can you use mini blinds instead of wider blinds>
Awesome !!!!!
I'll this work on shade that's lined? Florida sun will bleed the color out of fabric.

Allie Hunter I watched another similar video that said after you have created the blind with the fabric that will face the interior, make panel of lining material, fold under the edges like the interior and glue it across the slats and around the perimeter of interior fabric. I’m going to try this with a smaller window before I tackle my master bedroom picture window.
Realy nice !
Great tutorial but I’m curious how the back side looks from the outside when they are down.

Rhonda Pease Good question... maybe you could glue another sheet of fabric on the back side? I’m curious if anyone else has tried to make this? I just hate the thought of cutting the cord on our wood blinds to try it ... I can hear my husband saying, oh brother another Pinterest fail smh 🤦🏼♀️
What did you do with the piece that locks the blinds in, so they don’t fall out? I saw it when the man out your blind u, but didn’t see the lock mechanism.

You could glue them in the brackets!
Cool idea
AWESOME!!!
I am going to leave the wall with windows white to match any design or colour of curtains or blinds.
hey...what kind of fabric id you use...can i use matte??? or should i use sumthing lighter....wonderful video..thnx
@JenniferStagg
9 жыл бұрын
Hi there, not sure what you mean by "matte" fabric, but I used an outdoor fabric mostly because I liked the pattern and color scheme. As long as it's heavier, I think you should be fine. Thanks for watching!
Brilliant 💞💞💖
Hay I just a suggestion instead of using one of those zips you should use to that way it makes it stronger and as time go by they don't tend to get weakened and broken and she used to strips. I mean just a suggestion I mean good idea.
I love this so much - thank you! Perfect for me with a house full of old levolor blinds! I want to be sure I understand. The way that I understood it is different than what the other gal said, so I might be confused. So, do you subtract 1/4" inch from the width and the height and then you add 2 inches to both of those measurements? So, if my window opening measures 24 x 48, I would calculate this way: 24 - 1/4 = 23.75 + 2 = 25.75 as final measurement? And, 48 - 1/4 = 47.75 + 2 = 49.75. Is this correct? Thank you so much - I can't wait to get started!
@JenniferStagg
9 жыл бұрын
That's correct, as far as I can tell! Good luck and thanks for watching!
I just want to make sure I am understanding you correctly...for the width you subtract a 1/4 in from the measurement and add 2 inched to the length? so if my window is 36 x 24 I should cut my fabric at 38.5 x 24.5 to give me a enough room for pleating and seem allowance?
@JenniferStagg
9 жыл бұрын
Correct! Kind of a weird formula, but it works!
Jennifer, how do you keep the bracket at the top that holds the blind from showing. When you glue the fabric at the top do you not glue the corners and pull the fabric out over the bracket?
@JenniferStagg
9 жыл бұрын
Stacy McKee-Redden I cut a little slit in the fabric so we could slide it into place, but still cover the bracket. Does that make sense? I hope so!
@CookieZ3353
8 жыл бұрын
+Jennifer Stagg So you just glue the fabric to the top of the top of the blind so that when you slip it in the holder hardware the fabric covers it and it's flush to the sides of the window opening.
Great production values but, Jennifer, you breezed over some important specifics-such as attaching the fabric to the topmost bar, and how to calculate how far apart to space those 7 or 8 slats.
How do you wash it when it gets dusty or dirty or do you throw it away and make another?
@sapphirejones7302

If you spray with a fabric protector, you can wipe it clean. It'll be weatherproof depending on the type of protector used.
This is really neat. I noticed in the video you had the larger, metal blinds. I have vinyl mini blinds. Do you think it would work or would they sag?
@JenniferStagg

+Beverly Dorms Absolutely I think mini-blinds would work!

glue to or three slats together .. so if you are using 6 slats don't remove 6 X 3 = 18 slats total. Just glue on ends (and middle if you chose) and proceed. Good luck
Can I make a hobbled Roman shade out of this
