DIY: Repair CITIZEN Promaster Aqualand hands not moving

Ғылым және технология

5810 movt technical manual: thewatchsite.com/d1/files/Cit...
Servicing this watch would have been so economically unviable (3x the market price of the watch) that I had to find a cheaper way to get it going.
Watch: Citizen Promaster Aqualand Divers
AL0004-03E
Symptoms: after battery replacement (and most likely sitting for years without a working battery) the analog hands will not move and the seconds hand does not tick. Digital side works fine however and the depth hands can be moved with the buttons after a reset (holding down A+B+C buttons while the crown is out to the second click.) If held against one's ear, the watch ticking can be heard however.
Likely cause: the gears that are responsible for the movement of the analog hands are most likely stuck. It could be that the old oils have dried and turned into gunk keeping the gears from turning.
Solution: luckily Citizen has included a "service window" into the gears that sits just below the plastic battery holder inside and is held on by a few screws. By disassembling the watch just a bit we can clean up the gears with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and apply a very fine amount of high-viscosity watch oil in there to get the gears going again.
Note: I am by no means even an amateur watchmaker. Most of the time I have no idea what I'm doing and you'd be much better off just letting a proper watchmaker service your watch completely, instead of doing it the half-assed way like in this video. If you just need to get it going though, you can try this method. Just don't do this simply to flip the watch and give a headache to the next guy.

This week I found this watch on my father's stuff, which seems to be from the 90`. Thanks to your video I was able to open it and change the battery, now it works fine. And I have a new watch for my collection. Cheers mate!! Merry Christmas 🎄

Great Video! Do you know which screw (size, etc.) is holding the power cell strap in place? I lost mine during a battery replacement and I have no idea if I can order it somewhere online 😢Thanks in advance

I've been wanting to get hold of one of these for years now but due to them being discontinued now and Citizen no longer making spare parts, it's quite a gamble, considering they still go for top dollar! There are some used ones being sold but most would be at least twenty years old.

Gamble indeed! For $50 though, this was a legit score even with the tinkering required. Looks great although I wouldn't dare take it out to sea anymore :)

@@jtr159 I've recently been offered a AL0000-04E 5812. The manufacture date is 2012 and it's NOS. It's not currently running apparently but it could just be the battery. He wants 200 Euro for it. I've only seen it in pictures but it definitely is flawless NOS. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

@@freakwatchesworld This is the one I used, but I'm sure you could get by with anything similar: "Dr. Tillwich Watch Oil 1-3 Watch And Instrument Oil TK2213". Just be suuuper stingy with it, you barely need any at all. And apply it with something sharp like a needle

Great video! Do you happen to know the part number for the rubber seal? I just replaced the battery by myself for the first time and would like to replace the seal before I try it in the water.

Hi, simple and interesting video, my respect. I just subscribe and have a question about, watch, I have the same model and have a problem with buzzer on the back plate. When I replaced the battery, the buzzer didn't work. How I can check the buzzer? If it's possible...thanks.

@@7emezzo Hi, thank you! Do you have the very tiny "buzzer spring" still in place under the back cover? I believe the watch sends a tiny bit of electricity to that spring and it resonates against the back cover thus buzzing it. If it's dislodged or missing, there's no sound. It's easy to get dislodged so try re-seating it. If it's missing, you can get a new one from inside a watch spring bar (just cut one open.) They're usually the exact width, just need to cut it to length so it buzzes correctly.
