DIY Regency Chemise - Bridgerton Undergarments - 18th Century Shift

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello Everyone!
I am very excited for season 2 of Bridgerton and wanted to make a series of videos showing how I make various Regency and Bridgerton inspired pieces. My great hope is to make a full outfit in anticipation of Bridgerton.
In this video I show how to make a chemise. While the chemise isn't worn in the Bridgerton show, I do think it is a great first project and first layer to make. And for those that want a more historically accurate outfit, it is a must.
The Chemise is great to be worn under stays since it helps keep you stays cleaner longer - and can provide a little extra comfort as an extra layer between you and your stays. Plus this chemise makes for a cute and comfy nightie.
Be sure to check out the Chemise Pattern on my Etsy KittyJBerry:
www.etsy.com/KittyJBerry/list...
I have made video about this style of chemise before, but I wanted to re-make this chemise in cotton, and share the pattern I have made for it. In my other video I hand drew out the pattern and made the chemise from a remnant of satin.
• DIY 18th Century Chemi...
In this video my chemise is made from about 260cm of lightweight cotton fabric and white thread. I cinched up the neckline initially with white cord but later changed to a white ribbon and then added a piece of elastic. The white cotton fabric I used looks and feels great, it's lightweight and breathable, however it did fray super bad as I worked, and I had to use a dark background to sew on-top of so you could see what i was doing.
If you liked this video please stick around. I am hopeful to share a video about the short stays you see worn over the chemise at the end, and even a dress or two.
If you do end up using my pattern please show me / tag me on Instagram - I love seeing everyone's amazing projects.

i've been watching tutorials to sew chemises for over half an hour now but as a beginner I was bit confused by the other videos. You explained it so clearly I actually understood it finally esp how the gusset works. Thank you!

Thank you thank you thank you for this. I bought the pattern and made along with the video and I’ve never been happier with something I’ve sewed. I’m an absolute beginner and I’m so pleased - I did mine with a king size bedsheet so I still have enough fabric for another! I honestly think it’ll be my go to nightie

I’m in the process of making this chemise. Practicing with cheap muslin as I am a new at sewing. But you’re an excellent teacher. Everything is so clear and easy to follow. Your pattern I purchased on Etsy is also very easy to understand.

Such a cute, simple garment, exactly what I was looking for. I'm a novice, so I'm excited to practice my flat fell seam on this. Your explanation was clear and concise, I'll be making this in the morning! Love it, good job :)

I love that. I have been looking for a simple dress with an elastic neckline that can be made for any season. This pattern would work nice for that

It's a bit sheer because it's an undergarment, so you might want a thicker fabric or lining (or a chemise under your chemise 😂)

Can you make it with long sleeves? If so, how? Would you just make long rectangle for sleeves instead of small?

  • @KittyJBerry

Yes you could extend the sleeve rectangle for a longer sleeve. That would certainly be one option.

Also whats the best fabric for this? I got ton of beige flanellete - like flannel from cotton, and I want to use it to make this but I dont know if its too thick...

  • @KittyJBerry

I think the flanellete would be too thick. The thick fabric may cause bulky gathers around the neckline, and it might be uncomfortable under a corset. It might also be very warm, maybe too warm under lots of layers. You could try the flannellete / flannel - if you just wanted to wear this chemise as a nightgown, not layer it under a corset - it could possibly work. However, I recommend using linen or cotton for a chemise, something light weight and breathable.

@@KittyJBerry I’m using muslin, is that good?

  • @KittyJBerry

    @KittyJBerry

@@ruthannemarie2668 Hi Muslin fabric should be good. Muslin is 100% cotton and should breathe well. However, Muslin can come in a wide range of weights, from delicate to coarse. Just Be sure to choose a Muslin fabric that feels nice against the body, You don't want it rough against your skin rubbing you all day. I hope this helps!
