DIY Quasar Science LED Tube Lights (FOR LESS THAN $35!)

Ғылым және технология

Quasar Science LED Tubes are a fantastic tool for video lighting and a great studio accent, but their price puts them out of reach for most KZreadrs on a budget! In this episode, we use LED strip lights, parts from your local hardware store, and a bit of 3D printing to build our own version for less than $35!
Interested in building your own? You can purchase the components you need here:
LED Strip Lights: amzn.to/2v9nBrO
Fluorescent Tube Guard: thd.co/2vO7TTa
5/8in Diameter, 4ft Long Hardwood Dowel: thd.co/330tV11
HATCHBOX PLA 3D Printer Filament: amzn.to/37yz6WK
Parchment Paper: amzn.to/2TxYAQj
Adhesive Tape: amzn.to/2v52HKn Is money no option? You can also purchase OG Quasar Science LED Tubes here: amzn.to/2VQo64WSTL files for the cap and base can be downloaded here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:426...
Want to get into 3D printing? These are some of my favorite printers:
Lotmaxx SC-10 (Great beginner printer!): amzn.to/34JhuGX
Creality Ender 3 Pro (Another great first printer choice!): amzn.to/35T5CSZ
JGAurora A5S (Huge build volume!): amzn.to/2DDrMg3
Elegoo Mars Pro (The latest and greatest resin printer!): amzn.to/2UaEbBD
Elegoo Mars Standard (The OG KING of resin 3D printers! - Amazon US): amzn.to/2pzLBky
Elegoo Mars Standard (Amazon DE): amzn.to/3ebrcqW

Thank you! I was surprised when I looked, too. The real Quasars are cool, but my current budget prefers the DIY option at 1/20th of the price! 😜

Cool! Didn't you have any problems with flicker on video? Whenever I use the default LED controllers they always cause flicker when they're dimmed/ mixing colors.

Mighty Visuals Thanks! Nope, no flickering problems so far. I’ve continued to use/test them since I posted the video and have not had any issues.

so where can we buy something like this. cuz we dont all have 3d printers

  • @SuperMakeSomething

    @SuperMakeSomething

Definitely check with your local library - many have 3D printers that are free to use! Another option would be to buy something like the Ender 2 or 3. They are usually available for around $150, print great, and the cost would still be lower than buying a set of LED tubes at this size.

The lights in herris heller video(the video in the intro) are LIFX beams. Still expensive but not as much as quasar science tubes.

I tested this out before assembly just to be sure. You are right -- temperatures can sometimes be a concern, but these stayed at safe levels. These actually run very cool, especially given that they are insulated by a rubber weather proofing layer.

tip: To avoid seeing each led, get cheaper tape(that does not have the plastic cover) get the tape with more led density's. Also make the tape touch(but not overlap) when twirling them

Shipping the entire lamp would unfortunately be prohibitively expensive because of its shape and size. However I would be able to sell the 3D printed base and endcap pieces in case you do not have a 3D printer. Please reach out to me via Twitter or Instagram and we can discuss further. Thanks!
