That was a nice clear explanation of the bus and snorkeling situation there. The title was a little confusing though as DIY might refer to getting your own boat or being able to swim to the snorkel spot but you paid for an excursion to the reef. I have also seen videos of snorkeling on the same reef right off of Playa del Carmen and I am wondering how that would differ and if one is better than the other. btw Puerto Morelos actually has two parts with the main town being on the West side of the hwy. We stayed there once and were disappointed in how long and boring a bicycle ride it was to the beach. Would take a transport next time.

I was there today it was amazing 👍 great video. If you walk down the beach north about 400m you can swim out to the reef if you are more adventurous like me. It's a beautiful swim and you'll see tonnes of fish. So good I'm going back tomorrow

this is such a helpful video! staying at impression moxche and my husband and i really want to snorkel. the resort offers amstar tours and excursions, but they are a little pricey. still haven't decided yet. but we just want to spend as much time snorkeling!

Thx - I do these tours often and get better prices using pesos. And realize there is FREE snorkeling off the beach near Ojo de Agua .

can you explain more? i am visiting playa del carmen and snorkeling is my biggest bucket list/priority! i don't know if i should book an amstar tour through the resort or try to wing it on our own. i just want to see some beautiful fish and sea turtles!

Thank you for sharing this! Staying in PDC for a month so looking for affordable day trips with my 3 kids. Will definitely try this!

Great video!!! How many guides accompanied you group for the snorkeling? I have a group of 5 and 3 are non swimmers so I need at atleast 2 people

I would ask them if you can get another guide to go with you. We had one guide and the driver of the boat. They want everyone to wear lifejackets. It is pretty safe.

also do u know if there are sea turtle snorkeling tours near PDC? i heard closer to akumal? is it hard to get there from PDC?

If you have a car what is the parking situation like? Paid lots or meters? We are staying in PDC the first week of July and will have a rental car.

Parking is available on the streets, just need to find a spot. No parking meters just need to find a spot. You will love the little town of Puerto Morelos, if you have a chance check out our other video on Playa Del Carmen and also check out our video on Rio Secreto- amazing excursion you can do from PDC.

How late can one stay before the bus service ends?

Hi Kolya. Don’t know for sure but it is a locals bus so I assume it must run late - past 9pm probably. Just have to ask someone in the town when u go snorkeling or eat somewhere.

Any catamaran you recommend

Hi Leann As far as I know, there are no catamarans that do this short trip out from this pier. There are bigger boats which come here but from other locations not nearby and it’s not the same ‘local, basic’ type experience. Up to you on what you prefer.

Nice video but very concerning that you show someone picking up sea life during your snorkeling trip. "The golden rule when entering the National Marine Parks is never to touch anything." It may seem harmless to you but other people will see this and think they can touch anything they want while snorkeling and destroy the coral reef which is already endangered. Please consider editing this part out or removing your video.

Sorry, but you’ll need to take your concern up with the certified and approved guides for this National Marine Park. They all do this.
