DIY Platform Bed with lots of storage and charging! SimpliSafe is award -winning home security that keeps your home safe around the clock. It's really reliable, easy to use, and there are no contracts. Check out SimpliSafe here: simplisafe.com/foureyes
On this episode I build a DIY plywood platform bed with drawers along one side. A large drawer in the footboard, and sliding doors along the other side. I also build a simple headboard with a ledge for holding and charging all of our electronics while we sleep :)

How are you joining the three boxes? I am almost done building this but I am wondering what is the best way to join these perhaps make it modular and be able to break apart when moving, but sturdy enough when put together

Hi, the modeling video of this piece is set to private and I cannot view it. I would like to make something remotely similar to this - just two side sets of drawers and no drawers by your feet.
This is awesome! The only thing that I would maybe do different is to put slats in the middle part instead of another platform as mattresses can mold eventually without air circulation
Great build Chris. I love the visual aspect you put in your videos with the drawings. Helps understand everything much better. Great work dude

Thanks komar. I think so too. It's saved me many times, in terms of being able to convey something that would have otherwise been hard to visualize.
I love how unobtrusive the sponsor sections are in your vids :) You flow nicely from the project to the sponsor and back again, there's no dramatic or jarring pace change that just throws off the aesthetic of the whole video. I end up just waiting through it instead of skipping. I think you just have that kind of calming and gentle voice that's comfortable to listen to :)

Hey a quick tip when you used the rputer against a wooden strip you want the round part of the base of the router to touch the fence because (at least with my router) that part is perfectly round. And if you use the flat part it will rock around and you wont get a straight cut. With the round part you can move it around and the cut will still be straight btw. Great video as always keep it up 👍👍

This video helped me solve a problem with a completely unrelated project I have in the planning stages. I’m planning a wooden snake cage with front-opening sliding glass doors, and I could not fit the life of me figure out how I was going to get the doors into precut dado tracks without taking part of the frame apart and reassembling it around the glass doors. Your instruction of making the top track deeper just solved this conundrum. Thank you.
Flat bottom bits - boy you got me there 🤣😂🤣 Not sure if I can ever listen to that normally 😂🤣 Awesome work - DEFINETLY will inspire our new bed!! Thanks 😇

Hi Chris. Nice build. I've made a few similar builds and one advice from me to you, free of changer, would be ventilation holes under the mattress, and plenty of them. Even with a latex core, I've had issues with moisture build up between the warm mattress and the colder plywood. The first layer of glue will stop the plywood from absorbing the moisture.

Hi Chris, great build and just what I have been looking for. I have a Casper mattress and they stress to use slats spaced 4" apart as a mattress frame so that there is air circulation underneath it otherwise you could have mildew problems. I don't know which kind of mattress you have so this isn't feedback on your situation, I'm only thinking of how to adapt your design for my situation. Your content never fails, I love it! Also, those are my fav kicks so far!
Love your sense of humor and your design skills
love your videos! Question - have you ever considered creating a "woodworking vocab roundup" style video? i think it would be great for woodworking newbies to boost our knowledge. especially since your channel and your artform here is so visual itd be great to have a visual glossary so to speak. i ask bc whenever i watch your videos i am confronted with the following: what is the difference between: groove vs. bevel vs. dato vs. domino vs. rabbit vs butterfly vs. etc etc anyhow, keep it up.
Love your work and vey glad to see you growing still with your channel. Definitely inspires me to keep designing and building more...

03:40 - Just a small quibble: _never_ write on a piece of wood to label it, with a pen of any kind! A soft pencil is good, and better still is a strip of painter's tape (you can write on _that_ with a Sharpie). I speak from experience when I say that there are few things more frustrating than getting near the end of a project and going to paint, stain or otherwise finish it, only to find that the pen marks keep showing through, no matter how many coats you lay down. Edit: from later shots, it looks like Chris _might_ be using a mechanical pencil rather than a pen, but it's hard to tell. Either way, it's likely to give some the impression that it *is* a pen, and they could follow suit.
They certainly do make the rocking world go around. I like it as is, without any finish. I know you’d have to seal it with some clear to stop it marking up, but I’ve learned to trust in your design decisions. Nice job. 👍🏻

How did it go lol
This is almost exactly the design I did for our king bed...well, not exactly. But the long side boxes for me were broken in half to make assembly and taking them into the room easier. Ours will be drawers all around and ideally solid Walnut that will have a continuous grain on each face, but not face to face... that'd be one massively long glue up. It will also require floating night stands to get to the drawer under your head and I'm excited to design those...want charging,maybe light, and speakers... we'll see. Great video 👍. Also, I thought for sure you'd go with Blum undermount after building your outfeed /assembly table. I can't go back now that I've used them unless they just can't work in a particular application
@Foureyes.Furniture

At the point that I built this I had never used blum drawer slides. I actually just used them on a project that will come out later this month though. They are kind of hard to wrap my head around still...but they work great. You can definitely see the quality difference :)
@stumptownwoodworks

@@Foureyes.Furniture yeah that's what I thought too. Trying to get everything square and perfect... seeing the tolerances they put in the catalog...it was overwhelming. Then setting in the drawers for the first time and seeing how much adjustability they have 🤯 it was awesome. Could easily be out of square or have a slightly wavy piece of ply and be fine. Also they can be side or bottom mounted to the box so they work for slide out drawers behind doors too.
"linens....and things" I, too, would've had to add "and things". ;) I chuckled.

Hey ! I believe you should elevate your mattress in order to make some airflow underneath and allow it to breath. When we sleep, we sweat and the mattress get humid, so allowing some space underneath prevent mold for both the wooden bed and the mattress. It can increase comfort as well. Also, why are you using plywood ? I started using it to make some shelves, and I feel that that wood isn't very resistant, get scratches easily and does not look nice. I think pine may to an good alternative, but probably more expensive. Best ! Geoffroy

Hey Chris, I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and have found plenty of inspiration from your videos, both in your projects and in the way you plan and construct. I do have a potentially dumb question; in this video I saw that you used several different circular and track saws (in addition to your table saw). May I ask why so many? Is each one for a different purpose for you? Just curious! Love the videos and the calm aesthetic you have going in them!!
@Foureyes.Furniture
4 жыл бұрын
Hey man...I've gotten this question a lot. I think I might need to make an instagram post about it. In short. Track saw vs Circular Saw usually has to do with length. Full sheet of plywood. I'll use a circular saw with the kreg rip cut attachment (I don't have tracks long enough) cross cut I'll go with a track saw. I'm using two in this video because I was also testing out a new woodpeckers attachment I got for the festool :)
I would like to have those woodpecker tools. Especially the long t-square ruler.
Good job
Chris, I noticed in your sketchup drawing of this platform bed that the top and bottom panels of the big side drawer boxes were *not* rabbited, only the side panels. But in the build you did a stopped rabbit on those top and bottom pieces, so the 1/2 inch back panel was "received" all the way around. What made you change course there? Any reason you wanted the rabbit to go all the way around instead of just being on the two side panels?
Awesome video
