DIY Overland Truck Camper Part 8 (Line-X)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Its finally here! (although you would never tell from my voice. I am amazingly excited to have it back). This is just a quick video to show the spraying process on the truck camper.
Remember that this is only a prototype camper and I do plan on recreating this with aluminum after putting this one through lots of trials and testing.
The next video will be a quick walk through of the camper at its current stage before I start working on the next stages to make it camp worthy.
Also sorry for my amazing truck condition. After this camper is built, I promise that I'll replace the running boards.
A big thank you goes out to all the people at Line-X for the great job you did. And I am looking forward to giving this camper a proper test in the rain.

I now have a website that you can visit to see all the items I've used in this build. while each individual email will have links to some of the products that I use in this build. This website will me a more complete collection. Thank you again for watching.

hahaha. Yeah. I felt bad when Jason said that I don't speak. I mentioned it on his channel just to not freak anyone out when they hear all that amazing voice over.
Good job.

Thanks. I've been waiting way to long to get this started. And decided to just start before it only becomes a thought in the back of my mind.
F o r your propane storage, you should make the cabinet so it can hang on the outside with a bracket on or that hooks over your tailgate. Seems like the cabinet you built eats up a lot of interior real estate, but maybe it doesn't.

You are a hundred percent right. I like the idea of it being out of view. But like the look of those fuel tanks and water tanks that hang on the outside. An outside propane rack would solve other issues like not having to worry about ventilation as much also.
You should have used wood glue!!! Along with the mechanical fasteners/screwed.. and fiberglassed all the seams in the plywood outer skin.. this thing will not last very long

While I agree with you on the glue. And I do glue a lot of my projects. This is a prototype. And I want to change things as easily as I can. So I opted out of the wood glue. In a few years I plan on making a better version. I just wanted to get the kinks out now. As for the seams. My original plan was a larger sheet of plywood. But it wasn't possible at the time. So it caused more seams.

You got that right. I can't figure out why people start out building an airplane and end up with a tank. 2X4 come on 1X4 is still over built.
If folks really wanna know why oyu did or did not do specific things they should learn how to ask. Saying "you should have" is not a good way to speak of it. The clue was in youre seeing this is a prototype to other things down the road. I guess some folks only read or "hear" what they want so they can act like a smart*** and think theyre telling you something. Which they are just not what they think they are! LOL Looks good. That lining will sure protect it and give it extra strength.

Thank you. It sure will protect it. And I take the good and the bad. One can't post things on youtube without expecting both. Its all in how you handle both sides. And as long as I learn something over this whole time. And as long as I inspire even just one person to do something similar then I'll consider this all a success.
Nice

Thank you. I'm loving the way the grey turned out.
Hi , nice build, what u did in this video can water-proof the it and protect it from the outside elements? Just curious, and for me, the hardest part is how to weather-proof the outside. Thank you
@RecceCampers

Yes. That's exactly what I did it for. Just for waterproofing. There are many ways. This may be the more expensive way to do this. But there are DIY versions of this for those who think this is a bit much.
Wood expand and contract with humidity and temperature, so paint will crack. How do you keep their maintenance up? Or you keep it in storage/garage when not out camping?

This structure stays on my truck all the time. There is no paint involved in this build. Only wood and Line-X. And the Line-X will not crack. At least not while I own this truck. The major thing people don't understand is that this is a prototype. And while I plan on using this as a camper. I am more interested in the ability to rearrange things as I see fit the. I am with a long term camper. My end goal is to rebuild a camper on my next truck with different more permanent materials for long term use. And I am always welcome to ideas from anyone watching this series. I hope I somehow answered your question.
Looks good...was there any extra prep work involved to prepare the wood for the linex?

Not at all. I brought the frame in to show them and discussed the plywood idea with them, and they said it would work great on that surface.
I know you want the platform roof, but ... when I built my own truck camper year ago, I really wished I had curved the roof as I had a helluva time keeping water out of it even with painting with elastrometric sealant etc. Are you permitted to keep the propane tank inside the habitable part of your unit? Not sure. Travel safe. Henri. (RVing with Henri)

I am starting the design of a new version. And have been toying with a curved roof for sure. That's for my teardrop. I haven't thought too much about the roof of my next truck camper. Its a great idea. Thank you for the info. As for the propane. I initially planned to have that storage for propane, but ended up just using it as an outside locker.
being a master carpenter...Im not sure about all the bits and peices you kept adding to the height? Also how is it waterproffed?

Hey. Thanks for the comment. It was waterproofed with the Bedliner. While this worked really well at keeping water out. It was not the most cost effective way to do it. I was still happy with the results.
How many coats did they spray on ?
@RecceCampers
Жыл бұрын
Only one coat. They also tried to do a very little coat. If they spray your truck bed it would be thicker. I just wanted to stop water from getting in. And didn't want to add too much weight.
Can you share what the cost of the Line-x was?

Hey Ron, I have a video detailing my cost kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKJ8lZqBgsm1h6w.html. If you have any other questions feel free to ask away.
What did they spray it with??
@RecceCampers

They sprayed it Line-X spray on bed liner
How much did the project cost u including line x
@RecceCampers
2 жыл бұрын
Just under 1700$ CAD at the time of build.
Did you treat the wood before you Line-X it
@RecceCampers
2 жыл бұрын
Nope. And guess what I should have done. I should have treated or painted it with some sort of protection earlier. That part of the world is horrible for moisture and it wasn't too nice to exposed parts of the camper.

Not even close. Heat was never an issue with this camper. It did a good job of reflecting heat away. It was always pretty cozy in there.
