DIY OctoScreen Setup To Control My Anycubic i3 Mega!

Ғылым және технология

If you use OctoPrint to control your 3d printer, then you might be just as frustrated as me when you notice a print failing and you have to run to find a computer in order to cancel the print. In this video, I added a touchscreen to my 3d printer enclosure to control my OctoPrint server directly. Now I can start and stop prints directly from my enclosure rather than a computer, but I still get all the other benefits of having an OctoPrint server to control my Anycubic i3 Mega!

Hi @MODERNHOBBYIST I am about to purchase the anycubic mega pro with laser engraver. My question is, with the setup you have enclosed will it do polycarbonate filament or have you not upgraded the extruder, tubing, bed, etc? thanks for showing this touchscreen project. looks really nice

Hi, I recently installed TMC2208 in my MEGA (upgraded from MEGA to MEGA-S in 2019) and flashed it with the marlin firmware, but after the first print with those, they make a lot of noise, especially the X and Y axis. Even when given the homing command from the touchscreen of the printer, they make noise. I've set their voltage to 0.85-0.9 V. Please help.

Hi Charlie, I have a side question. What is better for OctoPrint, the inbuilt wifi of the Pi3B or use a wifi adapter? The Pi would be roughly 7-8 meters (~25 feet) from the router Behind one concrete wall..

Hey thanks for the comment! I am using the built in Wifi on the Pi3B over a distance of about 7-8 meters and it works great, albeit without a concrete wall in the way. If you haven't purchased a USB adapter yet, I would go ahead and try it without, but that concrete wall makes me apprehensive lol

@@ModernHobbyist I do have a wifi adapter. My printer and pi would be in a corner of a room on a table.

Great work I'm sure it was a great project, however I have a windows laptop running octo print so just a tad more functionality. I have three lack tables stacked so the height is perfect! Keep up the good work....

So super easy to make it work. Using a lcd for the pi 4b on the 3b+.. Idk how it worked but it did. 2 questions. Can I still use the Raspberry pi cam and when I click on shut down it asks for a password. Do you know how I can bypass that?

  • @ModernHobbyist

Thanks for the comment! For the pi cam, yes you should be able to, I have used both a Pi can and a USB webcam. For the shut down question, I'm not sure about that, it doesn't actually require a password for me. Do you by chance have it set to auto-login? If not, try setting that up from the raspi-config.

Another great idea is to add an industrial kill switch button. If something more urgent happens. Big ass failure, something grinding, malfunctioning or a fire.

@@ModernHobbyist Try a stronger iron, like 40W or 60W, the 400°C is a great temperature, high heat for short time, that's the key

I do notice that at times it takes forever to melt sometimes, so I cranked up the knob on my base station to 5, hopefully that helps. Unfortunately, it isn't a nice enough soldering station to tell me the actual temperature, but oh well :S Thanks again for the feedback I definitely appreciate it!
