This is wonderful and so informative. A lot of Pinterest recipes are full of chemicals. If you’re going to DIY it makes sense to make it non toxic. Love the labels with recipes. Thieves detergent scent seems to stay. One thing I do is add clove and cinnamon EO to wool dryer balls. Those warm scents seem to hang on. People are always asking my kiddos what mom uses to wash their clothes. :) I’m definitely using this recipe as well.

I am highly allergic to many popular laundry detergents. Tide is the worst. I'm so sensitive to it I can tell by being close to someone if they use it on their clothes. Bounce, Downy, Snuggle are just as bad. When my neighbors are doing laundry I can't sit outside because it will trigger an asthma attack from the vapors in the air.

Would like to know how this affects washers compared to other DIY products. I did not know this until recently, but most DIY laundry soaps (Zote) are only good for handwashing with scrub boards and will ruin machinery over time, voiding any warranties. It you are going to use industrial machinery, you have to use it with products made for the purpose. So, do you know whether Sal Suds fits the bill on that one?

I’m glad people are beginning to wake up to the corporate corruption. Any small thing I can do to cut some of these corporations out of my life I will gladly do. Making your own cleaning products and body soaps out of natural products is a great first step.

I bought SalSuds after watching your video, but after reading the ingredients on Sal Suds bottle how is (SLS) not toxic? I looked at the EWG and they are saying borax and SLS is not good for you. I did make your recipe and have to say the dishwashing soap came out incredible. II really liked your receipe. 'm just concerned now on the SAL SUDs. What are your thoughts. Maybe I need to do further research.

SLS is in our Sal Suds all purpose cleaner, and here’s what we say about it on the bottle: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a surfactant that cuts grease and dirt, generates copious suds, and biodegrades quickly and completely. SLS is made by combining a sulfate group with lauryl alcohol from coconut oil, then attaching sodium. If improperly formulated, SLS can irritate skin, but our superb formula uses coco-betaine and lauryl glucoside to counter this. Sal Suds is a mild, synthetic detergent, not a body care product. SLS does not, and never has, appeared in any of our soaps since the saponified vegetable oils in our Castile Soaps are much, much better for our skin, and can be certified organic. SLS is synthesized (read “man made” or “processed”) even though it does have a coconut base.

I just found this recipe and it looks like a great alternative to the DIY recipes on youtube! Just a question though, would I be able to safely mix/melt in a laundry booster like borax or washing soda, or even oxi clean? I live in a complex where we can only wash with cold water and I neeeeeed all the boosts I can get to clean our messy family's clothes! So throwing them in as powders is not an option

I make homemade laundry soap using a Fels Naptha bar (grated) laundry soda and borax. I add it to water in a stock pot and dissolve over low heat until all is mixed well. This works great in cold water washes.

Great question! It's a stronger surfactant - it suds up WAY more than Castile Soap so it is better able to grab ahold of particles and remove them. Castile Soap is much better for using as a hand and body soap.

Soap is not a detergent. The sal suds is a detergent and works similar to actual laundry detergent for modern washing machines. Soap will cause build up and keep soap scum in your laundry over time.

Your recipe looks simple and easy, but I have no clue how much to " NOT USE" 😄. I hate when i use too much and then you end up with a film on your hands if they're wet. I love your pitcher too, might have to get one. One other thing, I love the idea of the labels and the recipe on the other side, but I'm kinda not into the flowers, I'd like a simple black and white label. Can you create a simple one for those of us non flower people? New home, new simple decor. Thanks so much for sharing.😘
