As a soap business owner, bubbles don’t clean its just pretty to look at. Your recipe will clean I make it and use it. A lot of people think the more bubbles the better clean you get. It’s not true. This is a great recipe that is why its good for HE washers because of the low suds but yet it cleans.

Would that also apply to car detailing n washing? Most detailers swear that it's the suds that you need to clean the cars surface

FYI. You can make your own washing soda. Spread baking soda on a shallow sided cooking sheet. Place in a 200° oven, stirring occasionally. When it turns gray, it will have converted to washing soda

We make our laundry soap. Our towels were getting grungier and not absorbing water. Then, I saw a video on why. It takes dish soap to hit the grease buildup. So, I tried adding an 1/8th cup , a couple big squirts on top of my mix and it worked.

Question Kathleen…. I’ve never made any kind of cleaning item homemade, my main reason for looking into. This is my son’s extreme, eczema, and no matter what we use, even though if it says, all free, or clear, seems to still give some sort of discomfort to my son. So I was willing to try this the other thing I’m asking is how well does this dilute? My scrubs for work are black and I’ve been noticing that no matter what brand I buy all It all hammer, game, tied, you name it I always get like a liquid white residue, and I even use an extra rinse cycle so I’m just afraid if this doesn’t dilute all the way and break down and it’s gonna leave a residue? I’d appreciate any response. Thank you.

I love this recipe, and am making again for the 4th time today. My very 1st batch didn't turn out right, it was still very watery and grainy, I used it anyway because it still worked but left a little residue from the soda I think. The 2nd batch I made, I accidentally boiled over the igredients but was able to stir it down. The boiling is the magic that turns it into a gel like laundry soap, it's perfect. Just thought I would add a tip.

So much easier to use and store withou liquid. I air dry the bar soap (zote/fels naptha) then cut into chunks and place in food processor with baking soda and whiz until it's a fine powder. Zote is usually at Walmart. Fels Naptha is sometimes at our other local grocery stores, was constantly in stock before 2020. Zote smells like citronella oil in the pink bar, Fels Naptha used to be used as a bug repellant by the Amish too from what I have read.

very good video!! I too have been doing the same thing with zote soap and borax for years. I prefer to add the borax into the bucket instead the stock pot. And also being very old fashion as I am, have an old baby high chair next to washer for the 5 gallon bucket to sit on. Fill the bucket just over half way adding water. Next day or so, mix up with my hand and add little more water. Works out great, keep a plastic cup in the bucket for scooping. A whole bucket for me cost about $3.00

I thought you end up with a concentrate (GElled form) and you pour in half the gel halfway up in the gallon jug, and then thrn gfill the rest with water and cap it and shake it to mix....1/2 cup per load. SHake jug before using. So many versions of this. I found that it was gentler on my clothes, but that it does a great job removing stains (If you have a bad stain, you can brush some of the gel into the stain and let it stand for a few minutes.

Can you leave the detergent in the 5 gallon buckets or do you have to put it in jars . Also how much water did you put in the 5 gallon bucket to start off with before you added the solution in the bucket.

When you measure out 3/4 cup per load, is that 3/4 cup for small, 1 1/2 cup per medium, and 2 1/4 cup per large. Or is it 3/4 cup per machine load

Would making a concentrated version of this work? Like would we still be able to mix/breakup the solution after losing it sit overnight or is the dilution absolutely necessary? I'm guessing that by skipping the step of diluting the detergent with close to ~4.25 gallons or more of water will result in a super concentrated solution. The loads for that should only require ~1.5-2 tbsps each. The washer itself should be able to supply more than enough water, but this should let you store the detergent in less space and with a smaller scoop if it can work.

I have a few questions. Does this get separated and thick/gel like again in the jars like it did in the bucket originally? Have to shake etc? Also, I have a top loader with a pull out drawer for liquid. Do I put it in there or pour directly into the fry clothes? OR, should I wait til the water is added before putting detergent in? The HE washers use little water. Thanks. Hope that all made sense.

Yes, it does separate and I shake well before use. I put directly on clothes. 😊

Doesn’t it “re gel” itself inside the jars?
