2nd version of this mask is the best pattern I've seen. Easy to sew up and comfortable. Cut elastic 6.5" instead of 7".

Y’all, I’m straight up just using my hair straightener to press the fabric, and I don’t have those elastics, so I cut my ponytail in half and am using that! For anyone who doesn’t have exactly what she has, we can make it work! Hahaha ❤️ ... and I’m also just using some old tshirt as my fabric.

I work at the Hudson Valley Regional Food Bank in Cornwall, NY. We can't get masks for our volunteers so I took matters into my own hands literally. I sewed masks using your KZread VIdeo. I have never sewn in my life. My wife gave me a 15 minute training on how to operate the sewing machine and with your KZread video, I made 12 mask, enough for my entire crew. It took me all day, the sewing is not pretty or straight, but they work and I got rave reviews from everyone that used them. Thank you for your video. Stay safe and wash your hands. I did not have elastic, so I cut elastic hair ties in half and used them as the straps.

Yes, the homemade masks can help protect you from COVID-19. They are not as effective as professional grade masks, but some form of barrier is more protective than no barrier. It is not a guarantee, but it can help protect you and protect others if you are possibly a carrier. But saying it will not help at all is an absolute farce.

Better than nothing “Cover your face with cloth - however you want to do that,” said Shan Soe-Lin, a lecturer at the Yale Jackson Institute for Global Affairs who was a co-author of a widely shared article about the need to cover your face. “Cover your face pretty thoroughly from your mouth to your nose to prevent large aerosol droplets coming out or going in.”
@LadySaigo
4 жыл бұрын
The CDC is backtracking on their poorly thought out announcement to not use them. A lot of studies and demonstrations by scientists and medical doctors are being put out to show how it protects against hand-transfer and larger droplets (if you are further from an infected source, larger airborn droplets still travel but can be more likely blocked by mask). A mask wont protect you at point-blank with an infection source, yes. But there ARE ways it helps (as mentioned above) including slowing down your own projectile droplets so as not to infect others.

@@treasurie I have been making quite a few of them, yours is the best pattern I have found for simplicity and wearability (mask #1)- most recently I have taken either the wire closings from coffee bags, or I am taking the wire out of the disposable masks that I use at work, after my work day (I get one per day and have to wear a medical one at work for my shift) and I am sewing the flat wire piece inside the top seam of the mask. It is really working so well and it improves the fit, especially I notice this when I am talking a lot while wearing a mask.
