DIY Manta Performance Exhaust Install

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Upgrading to a performance exhaust on your 4wd does have a number on benefits, in this video I install a Manta Performance exhaust into my Mazda BT50.
It's quite simple to do, with only basic tools being required.

But I just wanted to mention that this install was filmed over 3 months ago, and so far I have been extremely impressed with the paint, after a couple of beach runs I was expecting to see rust just like my exhaust, but so far it looks like the day I put it in. I guess time will tell, salt works wonders on steel 😂 All the best choosing an exhaust 👍

@@SeekAdventure the paint damage which I observed was during the install so nothing to do with wear and tear and as mentioned by you and others, the sound is disappointing. I'm not necessarily referring to the "loudness", but rather the note of the sound. No need to defend Manta, you've been honest with your video and any remarks such as mine should not detract from their value proposition, mainly their price point and workmanship. Just watch your fuel tank video which was great. Keep it up. Cheers!

I have installed 3inch straight from the turbo, no cat, just one free flow resonator. And everytime i’m on a high boost and need to hit the brake, there is no back pressure from the throttle. So it makes my engine has a hesitation like a empty, and the engine feels like want to stalled, especially when i’m driving with AC on. I have done some engine mods before, like a remapping the ecu and change the boost, bigger injector, swap the turbo blade with 11 blade and oversize the blade as well. And then i put one center muffler that was design for a turbo diesel, and i haven’t got that problem anymore. I take it to the dyno, and the number is a little bit increased from before. Not all the bigger is better, or the free flow is better. Cause diesel especially the automatic ones, needs a lil bit of backpressure fo building the boost. IMHO 🙏🏻

Performance exhausts should only be used with tuned engines and improved induction, not on stock engines. For a given gas mass, wider exhausts will give slower flow. Go too big and you will cause flow problems - as the exhaust velocity decreases from oversize exhaust, its pressure will increase (the reverse of what happens in a carburettor choke chamber), back pressuring the flow and causing stagnation. That’s how cherry bomb exhausts work, stagnating the gas flow so you get a series of blockages and overpressures, which is why they decrease performance. Think about it logically - car manufacturers spend tens or hundreds of thousands on developing each new model, and they want to extract the peak efficiency and performance from their standard engine, so the exhaust will be sized to best ventilate the engine.

  • @SeekAdventure

Hey Nick, That's why it's great dealing with a company like Manta that specialises in performance exhausts, they clear up all the myths that go around like what you mentioned. Turbo diesel’s don’t need any back pressure, you could go to a 4inch even without any side effects 🙂👍

Not so simple, mate. If the original exhaust was properly designed, it gives the optimum backpressure to aid performance and power at one speed, usually highway speed although it could also be set to work best for urban delivery, low speed use. Going to a wider pipe can mean less exhaust gas scavenging and worse performance on a stock engine. Combustion engineering isn't simple, folks get PhD's in it to do that work.

  • @SeekAdventure

This is a turbo diesel engine Lyfan, back pressure doesn't matter 😉 That's also why you buy an exhaust from a reputable company like Manta, they know what they are talking about 👍

Engines are designed to run to optimum performance and then detuned for emission figures and noise etc so they can be marketed as efficient. The important thing mentioned is to have your motor retuned to the new exhust. Increasing the exhaust size does let the motor breath better but as for being more fuel efficient that is unlikely. Yes you will get slightly more power per fuel burnt but in 95% of cases we use that extra power and actually use more fuel

  • @SeekAdventure

Manufacturers spend a lot of time and money maximising their engines and exhausts for optimum economy and then performance. They use well educated engineers with well proven mathematics to come up with an ideal exhaust size. If you think that throwing on a fat exhaust cobbled together by a small garage business that no one outside of you region has heard of is going to make things better for the average owner, you have been misled. The internet is 90% bs. Think about it - why would Mazda, or any other manufacturer, put on a less than optimal exhaust for the average use? If you’re doing something atypical with the vehicle that needs a different power or torque curve and can live with the compromises that the alteration brings, then great, but otherwise use the standard exhaust diameter unless you have updated the induction system, turbo and fuelling.
