[DIY] Making a Chisel Sharpening Jig. /

I take it that the band-aid on your index finger is testament to the sharpness of your chisels! nice work.

Liked this the moment I saw it as "slider" jigs won't alter the grind angle like "wheeled" versions that sit on the stone. This is the one I'll use for inspiration to finally build my own sharpening jig!!! 10/10 from me!!!

It looks very nice and probably works very well. I've tried a lot of different honing jigs (including Veritas, Mohoo Mohoo, and an old Stanley, etc.) but I have to say that the one from Lie Nielsen is by far the best to date - both for chisels and for planers (I don't have any commercial interests in Lie Nielsen).

The sharpening jig you just created in this video is really impressive and I really enjoyed watching the art form you had while crafting this piece, I’ve never seen anything close to what you made. Please make me one , thank you so very much 🙃

A really great sharpening jig made with tremendous skill. One question though..... Are the wheels running on the oil stone? If they are. How long is it before the oil stone and wheels are worn out or damaged?

Thank you for your comment. First of all, I'm sorry if my English is wrong. Since the whetstone is always smoothed every time it is used, it is difficult to tell how much wear will result from using the jig. The wheels wear out after about a year, depending on how often you use them.

@@46craftworks I have the greatest respect for traditional Japanese tools and techniques. I discovered the beautiful chisels and saws, and sharpening stones. I am a cabinet maker by trade. I respect the love you put into your work. In Life everything is sacred, like Life itself. The more love you put into your work, the more beauty that comes from the work. Very warm greetings from France. What the West (sometimes) doesn't understand, is that tool is as sacred as the job. God bless you.

The funny thing about this is, this guy can probably sharpen his chisels free hand very well. I doubt he needs a jig. Anybody as accurate with hand tools as him should have no problem sharpening chisels.
