DIY, Luxury Moisturizing, Face Cream, WITH RECIPE, Self-Care Video Series #13

Hi everyone welcome to Sherri‘s Heavenly Apothecary. I m Sherri. Today I’m really excited because I’m continuing the self-care And I am making my luxurious moisturizing face cream. I am all out and am in dire need of it! Although I formulated this recipe to target my skin needs; dry, mature, problematic/rosacea, I found that my daughters in their 20s and friends in their 30s with flawless skin actually love this cream! I believe that is due to the luxurious oils used. They are fast absorbing and act as a make up primer, so this is a great under make up daily moisturizing cream with a luxurious skin feel. I hope you will give it a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Where I get my herbs:

And further, here is the recipe as promised:
Water phase:
160 g distilled water - *infused with 3 tablespoons each of dried rose, petals, and organic oats
*To make the rose pedal and oats infusion, place the Rose petals and the oats into a tea strainer. You can also use a muslin teabag or a piece of cheese cloth tied together and poor distilled water over it and let it steep a minimum of 15 minutes. Strain and measure out 160 g.
4 g vegetable glycerin - place this into the hot distilled water after it is all measured out.
Oil phase:
6 g almond oil
18 g jojoba oil
10 g Rita SCG/emulsifying wax
1. Measure the water phase ingredients according to the directions above if you are using the rose and oats infusion into a glass or heat safe container.
2. Measure the oil phase ingredients into a separate heat safe container.
3. place the water phase and the oil phase containers into a double boiler (a saucepan with 2 inches of water simmering) and heat up until both are approximately 160°.
4. Hold it 160° for 15 to 20 minutes.
5. Once the water and oil phases approximately 160° remove from the heat.
6. Pour the oil phase into the water phase, (or whichever vessel is biggest you will poor the smaller contents into the larger contents).
7. Blend immediately for approximately 2 to 3 minutes, to ensure emulsification of the oil and water.
8. Let’s stand uncovered for about 15 minutes to cool down. Then blend again.
9. Let cool down until 120° or under, (100° if using Leucidal Liquid), and then add your cool down phase ingredients; preservative, essential oils, and vitamin E, or any other additive you are using. In this video this video I used one Super Primrose by Now brand.
10. Mix cooldown phase thoroughly to combine and jar in desired containers. Preferably glass. Store in a dark dry cool place.
Shelf-life is approximately 3 to 6 months. If it lasts that long. 😉
Thank you for watching. I truly appreciate it!
Sherri

Absolutely gorgeous lotion, I really want to try to make it, however, I only have optiphen preservative. Can I make this face lotion using optiphen. Thanks in advance ❤

Hello❤ thanks for watching! While many use Optiphen without incident, it does have a rating of 3 to 5 on EWG.org Skin Deep database for allergies and immunotoxicity and has restricted usage due to this. It is also said by some manufacturers that it can burn around the eye area and is not to be used around the mouth due to possibility of ingestion. Some folks also say it has separated their emulsions after adding it to their formulas. Again, others have used without any problems. I personally would not use it in a face lotion. If you choose to use it just be sure to use according to manufacturer’s guidelines. Hope this helps😊

Beautiful lotion, going to try making it. Question can I use germal plus as preservative. Would it be the 2 grams. Will this lotion be able to use in a pump. Thank you so much Sorry before I forget do we have to measure the ph in lotions?

Thanks for watching🙏While I always opt for natural and Ecocert approved ingredients, I think using Germall plus is ok. It’s safe for the face, paraben free and a broad spectrum preservative, meaning it covers all the bacteria;mold, fungus and other microbes. All the things we don’t want in our products and especially on our face! I would always say use a preservative rather than not because not using one can cause more problems, in my opinion. Just be sure it is safe for the face (which Germall plus is) and use according to the manufacturer’s guidelines/rates of usage. In terms of pH- testing- yes, I forgot to add that in the video. I usually test my products to show they are balanced and I did not do that on this one so I apologize. But to test it, you would take a test strip (can purchase on Amazon) and dip it into the lotion and wipe it off then read the level on the chart. If using a pH meter use 10% lotion to 90% distilled water, (1g lotion/9g water) and your meter will give you the reading after 10-20 seconds in the solution. You want the pH to be between 4.5-5.5. Hope this helps😊

Also, you would use according to percentage recommendations from supplier. This lotion is somewhat dense, but I think it would work fine in a pump dispenser as well. Just be aware it does thicken up a bit after it sits. Hope this helps😊

@@SherrisHeavenlyApothecary- yes, you listed this as a cream, not a lotion. I never understand 27:09 why people don’t think for themselves, and expect someone else to do all their easily carried out research for them 🤔 💜
