    Looks a lovely soap with a luscious lather. Ideally one should aim for a ph between 8 -10. I prefer the 8 mark as the upper end is too harsh, especially for the face. It’ll no doubt mellow with curing 😊

    Hi! Thank you for watching! The mold size is 42 ounces which is roughly 2.5 pounds (2.6 lbs to be exact) I think they’re perfect. I get about 9 or 10 bars that end up being between 4.5 and 5 oz. each, very decent size. Here is the link for the molds I get. a.co/d/015GWNcL Hope this helps 😊

    You would add 5% shea butter, 2.5% cocoa butter and 2.5% mango butter to match the ultimate body butter blend at a total of 10% butters for the recipe.Hope this helps.

    Beautiful lotion, going to try making it. Question can I use germal plus as preservative. Would it be the 2 grams. Will this lotion be able to use in a pump. Thank you so much Sorry before I forget do we have to measure the ph in lotions?

  • @SherrisHeavenlyApothecary
    @SherrisHeavenlyApothecary26 күн бұрын

    Thanks for watching🙏While I always opt for natural and Ecocert approved ingredients, I think using Germall plus is ok. It’s safe for the face, paraben free and a broad spectrum preservative, meaning it covers all the bacteria;mold, fungus and other microbes. All the things we don’t want in our products and especially on our face! I would always say use a preservative rather than not because not using one can cause more problems, in my opinion. Just be sure it is safe for the face (which Germall plus is) and use according to the manufacturer’s guidelines/rates of usage. In terms of pH- testing- yes, I forgot to add that in the video. I usually test my products to show they are balanced and I did not do that on this one so I apologize. But to test it, you would take a test strip (can purchase on Amazon) and dip it into the lotion and wipe it off then read the level on the chart. If using a pH meter use 10% lotion to 90% distilled water, (1g lotion/9g water) and your meter will give you the reading after 10-20 seconds in the solution. You want the pH to be between 4.5-5.5. Hope this helps😊

  • @SherrisHeavenlyApothecary
    @SherrisHeavenlyApothecary25 күн бұрын

    Also, you would use according to percentage recommendations from supplier. This lotion is somewhat dense, but I think it would work fine in a pump dispenser as well. Just be aware it does thicken up a bit after it sits. Hope this helps😊

  • @SherrisHeavenlyApothecary
    @SherrisHeavenlyApothecaryАй бұрын

    Hello❤ thanks for watching! While many use Optiphen without incident, it does have a rating of 3 to 5 on EWG.org Skin Deep database for allergies and immunotoxicity and has restricted usage due to this. It is also said by some manufacturers that it can burn around the eye area and is not to be used around the mouth due to possibility of ingestion. Some folks also say it has separated their emulsions after adding it to their formulas. Again, others have used without any problems. I personally would not use it in a face lotion. If you choose to use it just be sure to use according to manufacturer’s guidelines. Hope this helps😊

    Hi! Thanks for watching! ❤ Yes! Normally we would use a preservative because of the water in the product, but due to the high sodium content in the magnesium (which is sodium) we don’t need it, as sodium acts as a natural preservative on its own. I will use this up before the shelf life expires, which is 3-6 months so I’m not at all worried about it. Although a preservative can be used too, just make sure to follow percentage rates for the volume which is roughly 8.5 oz 😊

    Hi Sherri new to your channel, I have a question. The lye solution being such a harsh chemical when you add the lye to infused water doesn’t the lye harms the properties of the herbs. Thank for sharing.

  • @SherrisHeavenlyApothecary
    @SherrisHeavenlyApothecary4 ай бұрын

    Good question! I think it does somewhat but cannot tell you exactly how much it does or doesn’t. I also like using infused oils, as well to give it more of the herbal properties, but even then I’m not sure how much withstands saponification. I do like having them in there rather then not because even if there is only a little I still want those benefits and to me they give the soap a good skin feel. I wish I had a better answer. I guess it’s a personal preference whether one thinks it’s worth it or not. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for speaking truth most soap makers claim that the lye is still present after soap is made and like you said, NO it isn’t, curing is simply to harden and evaporate excess moisture!! I always leave my soap dishes for 24 hours then wash them when I know saponification has occurred this gives a good idea about the lather and makes washing up much easier. Also since I am on a septic system this is better, less oils to deal with😁

    Thanks for sharing your recipe with us, I’m a bit confused so I’ve added Shea/mango/cocoa butter as 50/25/25 together with the other oils into soap calc but it says I need to take more off. I’m trying to make 1000g. What am I doing wrong please help.

  • @SherrisHeavenlyApothecary
    @SherrisHeavenlyApothecary4 ай бұрын

    Ok, I can see how this would be confusing. The total percentage of butter is only 10% for the recipe. The Ultimate Body Butter I used is a blend of 50/25/25; shea, mango, cocoa, So if you don’t have that particular blend then you would only put 3.3% mango, 3.3% cocoa and 3.4% Shea to total 10% butters. Using more than 10% butter is not recommended in a soap recipe because it tends to be too soft. I did provide the Amazon link for the ultimate body butter with the recipe in the description box if you wanted to check that out (I’m not affiliated). So you would put 1000 grams in soapcalc.net and then use 3.4% shea, 3.3% cocoa butter and 3.3% mango. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and lmk how it goes, I’d love to see a picture 😊
