I use pine litter as well! Exactly the same bag from tractor supply to! Have been for years. Im going to make this set up today.

pine might be too strong for a cats nose.

This is exactly what I️ need. I️ have the same littler box. My kitten just likes to kick up the sand everywhere outside the box.

Yes! that was exactly our problem, and that our dog was nosy. But this helps so much, and makes cleaning a lot easier. -Sam

Use a pool noodle for the edges of the hole.. lot easier than sanding it down

Why cut the hole so big? I did the same with a 50 Gallon tote from Walmart, and I cut a 7x7 hole 4 inches from the ground. I put in a sifting litter box like you did. It works great, keeps the odor contained, and the litter inside. I also put in a litter trap mat, a litter genie, and two motion sensor lights for when the kitties enter at night. And also a honeycomb mat outside the litter box.

One of the cats didn't like small spaces, so we had to cut the entrance to fit her needs.

Does this help keep the litter from spreading? I have one in the family bath, and everyone hates it, but I could put it elsewhere if the litter stays contained.

Yes, we haven’t had any issues with our litter getting outside the box. It gives them enough space to shake it off before stepping back out into the house. Although, it does depend on what kind of litter you are using as well.

Thank you! We actually sourced it from Walmart. However, any large container like this one will work ^-^

it has helped with ours, but I also believe it's because of the type of litter we use.

I like this idea because I want the sifting litter pan but it didn't come with a lid.

Yes, that was exactly our problem! This solution is a bit large, but it helps keep everything contained and it gives enough space for our cats to feel comfortable. Glad you're enjoying our idea, let us know how yours turns out if you decide to tackle this project.

What tool did you use to cut the tote?

I used a dremel tool. By angling the tool and using the side instead of the tip to start the cut, this made things much easier. Hope this helps! -Becca

Its about a 40 gallon bin.

As long as you secure them and create a balanced weight you should be able to put another on top.
