I have UX501VW, and after BIOS upgrade I have managed to successfully install Samsung m.2 970 EVO Plus NVMe 1000GB. Works like a charm. Former disk was Sandisk sata m.2 (two holes) but motherboard accepts NVMe m.2 disks also (with one hole). It wrx!

I have the same laptop. I was thinking to upgrade mine with the Samsung 980 1TB, which version did you upgrade the bios to? I guess you do it before installing the new SSD right? Do you have any tutorial to follow regarding re-installing Windows 10 after? Thanks

Maybe you have an answer for something in regards to a different model ASUS, the UX490UA? I replaced the NVME drive with an Samsung EVO PLUS 970 1 TB. However I am only getting 50% of the promised read/write. Meaning it runs at 1800 write and 1700 read. But If I put in my desktop it runs at full speed. Any chance its a chipset limitation? Even though the laptop NVME port is PCIE 3.0 x 4. Cheers.

I have two UX501V's. Bought 1 as a spare. The first one now has a blinking display problem. All my software apps are on the SSD drive. Can I just take the SSD from my old machine, install it in the newer one and have everything work? Both machines have Windows 10, but it will take me a week to reinstall all the apps on my spare machine. Appreciate the help.

It should work if it is exactly the same models with the same components. If it is not exactly the same model than it could take some moments longer trying to download the correct drivers.

The original harddisk in the ASUS N501VW is a M.2 SSD. Is it possible to upgrade to a M.2-NVME e.g Samsung 970 EVO - 500GB?

Good question I think not, because in the BIOS only SATA is available and not AHCI, its quite confusing since the hardware connection seems identical on mine. As far as i've read NVME is not backwards compatible to the sata protocol. Hopefully someone else can clarify. I haven't tried sticking an nvme drive myself to be honest.

@@kaisurfdog I tog the chance and it worked. Note that 500G is the largest possible disk the BIOS will accept.

you should add that is a NVME SATA PORT! it is not a NVME PCIe port. as you can see the memory has 2 holes in the pluggin pins. NVMe PCIe has only 1. Now there are some 1TB NVMe SATA ... has anyone tried it?
