the amount of detail and cleanliness is so under appreciated
okay folks, for the ones who are contemplating doing this. It's not as easy as the video shows. Reserve at least 6 hours if you haven't worked on this before. There will be a lot of pain and frustration with removing and installing the radiator fan which is 80% of the job. If you have the budget, I recommend having someone else suffer through it. However, if you're as stubborn as I was, you can do it just be patient and take a break if you're stuck. This job will make you question a lot of your life decisions.

The rwd fan takes like 15 mins to take out unless you have NO idea what you’re doing lol.

If you go from the bottom remove the charge pipe and the thermostat is literally in arms reach, hit the clip on the Tstat from the top with an angle pick get you a long flat head and use the to tstat to water pump hose that you should be replacing anyway and pry it from the top or bottom. And that’s all she wrote.

great video. what was your observation for the optimum operating temp for the engine oil? coolant? and transmission oil? I could see mine 100 C for engine oil and 90 C for engine temp and coolant 90 C? Transmission oil 85 C. not sure if this are normal.
I definitely need to get one of those jacks

Worth every penny!
The plug that goes into the thermostat itself can you tell me where it goes? Like the other end opposite of the thermostat itself?
What did you do about that msa monitoring delay error code been getting it for the longest but it doesn't effect the way the car drives
is it safe to be on the floor under a scissor lift?
Hey it’s be great if you can give us a update on running a e30 blend any problems? Did you have to upgrade anything before running it like the hpfp?

I'll probably do an update video soon here. But I haven't had any issues still. I still have the stock HPFP and everything is functioning normally.
What if my code was p0079 and over heating?
Good job bro from where u get the car holder bump motor ?

It’s called a QuickJack! It uses both air and hydraulic fluid to lift and to lower

Is it ok to bleed with the expansion screw off like you did or is it supposed to be closed? Is it’s closed where would the air go?
@InlineSixAuto
Жыл бұрын
From my understanding, the air is bled out through the expansion tank as it squirts into the tank, trapped air is being released. So I'm honestly not sure if the bleeder screw being open or closed makes any significant difference. Could be wrong though since I'm not an expert. Though I haven't had any issues with the cooling system since doing this replacement
hey man i need to do a coolant flush, do you know where i should drain from?? please let me know

Hey man I really need your insight here, I cannot for the life of me mount the transmission oil cooler back onto the fan it’s wedged between the fan and the big coolant hose above I’ve tried everything. How did you get it back on ?
@InlineSixAuto

I remember I only struggled to get it seated correctly inside the grove to secure it to the fan. I don't remember it being stuck anywhere tbh.
Is it recommended to change the water pump also?
@InlineSixAuto
Жыл бұрын
Depends on the milage of the car. If your car has higher milage and 1 fails. might as well just do both. Mine only has 75k miles so I decided to just do the thermostat since I felt it was too early and I wasn't having any issues with the waterpump.
I am watching this video because I replaced my thermostat on my e36 today in 15min. It is sad that modern BMW's are so complicated.
My 435 just threw a CEL light w the code U1408, secondary P0128 but has the same symptoms as you. Oil gauge doesn’t move from cold but runs fine. You had different codes? Has replacing the thermostat fixed the issue?
@InlineSixAuto
Жыл бұрын
Yes my issues went away after doing this replacement. But the same symptoms came back about 3 months later, I had noticed my coolant level was super low again and then I took it to a shop and they pointed out that there was a lot of coolant leaking from the coolant hose 'mickey mouse' clamp/piece that connects into the front of the engine block. I had replaced this piece the year before since the plastic piece broke so I got an aluminum one, however the gasket failed just after a year which is why it was leaking. So I ended up replacing it again with a different aluminum piece. Haven't had any issues since. That was back in May a few months ago. It seemed like these symptoms would only happen whenever the coolant level was super low below the minimum line. So it may not have even been my thermostat thinking back on it. Like when the coolant level is too low it creates a code reaction, keeping the thermostat open and turning off the oil temp gauge. Not certain that this is how it works but it just seemed like this what was happening for some reason. You said you had different codes so not sure if you have a similar issue but this what happened with mine. Yours may just be a bad sensor from what I've read.

@@InlineSixAuto I don’t have any leaks and no work has been done on my car. Where is the max line for the coolant reservoir? It doesn’t seem to be mark. Mines at the half way seam. Also, did you get a low coolant alert on your I drive?

Bro my gauge stopped working also at 77000 😂 well this should be fun fixing
How long does this take in real time... For a novice? 🤷🏼♂️

took me about 5-6 hours with filming though. The only hard part is getting the fan out and getting it back in that takes the most amount of time.

@@InlineSixAuto no so okay I got it out finally. You forgot to mention or maybe I didn’t notice, but the transmission cooler apart from being bolted onto the fan by the t25 it’s also slotted into a groove in the fan so you can’t pull the fan out before lifting up and pushing the transmission cooler out from the slot it’s sitting in on the fan. Thank you though your video is the reason why I stuck through it without thinking it would be impossible lol
