DIY Giant 3D Printed Sign (Creality Ender 5 Review and Setup - The BEST FDM printer?)

Ғылым және технология

Making KZread videos is an ever evolving process! Over time, I have upgraded my camera, audio, and lighting setups, but am still missing a recognizable space in which to record my intros and outros. To solve this problem, I decided to make a giant 3D printed “Super Make Something” Logo sign to hang in my studio, but I need a printer with a large build volume to manufacture the pieces! Enter Creality, who graciously offered to send me their Ender 5 printer to help with this video! The sign is definitely a stress test for the printer, so how did it do? Let’s find out!

    if you name your bodies in fusion, then right click on the component and select stl you can pick export as separate bodies and you will get each body into a properly named separate STL it will save you some steps.

    Nicely copied 'best of' collection of youtube props & intro styles from obvious others; but you keep me interested to the end, without thinking I would be better off watching someone else. It didn't hurt that I use an Ender5, and have been attracted to the larger format unit. Your examples answered a lot of 'what can it do' questions for me, wrapped into a useful project. You kinda lost my attention in the Inkscape & Fusion 360 segments, since I use Onshape, but the speed of your delivery made that painless & interesting. Good job... Subscribed.

    Glad I did the extensive research I did before buying my first 3D printer! Great video! Are CURA and Fusion 360 your go-to for all your 3D print designs? I haven't printed anything yet; until I learn settings, software, and G-Code programming. so any tips in those areas would help immensely to speed up the research process. Thanking you from Cleveland OH Carson B. :)

    Hi Carson! Happy to hear that you like the video! Because of its wide compatibility with many printers and a slicing engine that works pretty well in most cases, I use Cura for most of my prints. That being said, I am trying to branch out a little bit, as I am starting to get into multi-material printing, and other slicers seem to have nice features for this. (Stay tuned for a video on this topic soon!) For most of my designs, I use either Solidworks or Fusion360. For hobby use and for people starting out, Fusion would definitely be my go-to recommendation, because it is a professional 3D modeling suite, and is also completely free until a person makes over $100K a year with the software. (It also integrates well with all of Autodesk’s other software for PCB design, etc. which makes it really powerful.) Design and printing wise, my top two pieces of advice are that if you are using a single-material printer, always try to design parts that use as little support as possible, and always print as slow as you can tolerate in order to get the best print quality. I have not played around with custom G-Code too much, as the slicers I’ve used have always allowed me to set all of the options I’ve needed to in their GUIs, but it is definitely a powerful thing to know for debugging and for getting a printer to do exactly what you want it to do. Hope this helps! Thanks again for checking out my video and stay tuned for more content very soon! Cheers, Alex (Also from Cleveland OH) :P

    @@SuperMakeSomething Thank you SOOOO much! your opinions mean everything to me! I know the extent of your capabilities and appreciate the feedback. I will take all of this advice. I have one addition question. I also want to learn software programming/ coding, firmware programming etc. so I can change code as I upgrade my printer with BLTouch etc. where would I start to learn those things? School, KZread? a certain website? Thanks again -Carson

  • @SuperMakeSomething

    @@carsonbell1368 Unfortunately I do not have much experience with adding a BLTouch or modifying printer firmware, though I have seen code repositories for various printers posted on GitHub. As a result, you may be able to find a pre-made firmware that works with your printer, which you can then use to re-flash your board, though again, I unfortunately do not have much experience in doing this. I believe that most printer firmware is written in C and C++, so looking into beginner programming tutorials is definitely a good option and there are many good KZread resources. That being said, programming is a good skill to know in general, and many programming concepts are the same across languages, so to get started, I would recommend either looking into Arduino programming or making simple programs with Python. Both of these paths should be a good intro to programming! Hope this helps! Cheers! Alex

    i first got my ender 5 back in sept... than i bought a cr 10 clone so i had potencial to build more models etc... i wish they made a larger version of ender 5 it seems to me to be a much better design...needs a lot less messing with and prints are consistently better quality... but i did buy a clone,so maybe a real cr-10 dual axis is a better machine...

    roadstar499 I really like my Ender 5. The stationary bed is perfect for printing extremely difficult models. I have unfortunately never used a CR-10, but would be happy to give it a shot if Creality would like to send one! 😜

    @@SuperMakeSomething ...yes ender 5 had issues but most issues would have been easy fixes if i had the knowledge i have now... i think my c-10 clone is having issues due to my lack of knowledge also... i just made some re adjustments and it seems great... sometimes if you make a roller or 2 to tight or to loose it can really mess up prints even cause fails... belts same thing... and of coarse bed has to be flat and leveled just right... and there are 100 other tweaks and adjustments... i think in a couple of years everyone will have a 3d printer... they are right now where pc's were in 1990...

    I have a question that i need answered by an expert.... If i slice a model and its was done telling slicer to use a .06 nozzel and later on switch to a .04 nozzel will print fail do to extruding to much filament etc??? can this cause ringing etc of maybe cause extactor to start clicking /jamming??? i am having these issues i think... thanks

  • @SuperMakeSomething

    @SuperMakeSomething

    4 жыл бұрын

    roadstar499 Slicing with a 0.06 and then trying to print with a 0.04 will likely lead to clicking and jamming, as the g-code will try to force too much material through the hot end. Realizing the model should take care of your issue! Hope this helps!
