DIY FLOATING GLOWING MIRROR

Hi everyone! so happy to share this one with you all!
It was SO EASY and looks SOOOO LUX!
UPDATE: It is 10/6/20 and my mirror is still hanging with no problems! Please make sure you are using the proper supplies. Contact your local Home Depot or Lowe’s to check what adhesive you need for the size/material of your mirror to ensure safety! I used liquid nail and let it dry for 24 hours! (PLEASE DO NOT use gorilla glue. Saw that in some of the comments 🤦🏽‍♀️) However, just because it worked for me does not guarantee it to work for your project. DIY at your own risk, and please be careful!

I own a glass and mirror shop. There is nothing bad about the adhesives but a Loctite PL 530 or gunthers mirror mastic or equivalent should be used. The reason why is more on the fact that the chemicals in other adhesives will etch or eventually ruin the foil behind the glass, making it a reflective mirror. Just an FYI for DIY people watching this. Good video BTW. Making one of these for a client and was going to use steel tubing and reversed J molding. I might just use wood now. Thanks

WARNING! This is dangerous! I did pretty much the same thing, except that I used Gorilla Glue Maximum Strength. What are the chances of this: Several days later, as I was brushing my teeth, the dramatically mirror fell off. That is the mirror separated from the wood. Luckily, it fell on a glass. The glass shattered, but it seemed to break the fall and the mirror didn't break. I contacted a local mirror company and the guy said that I should have used "mirror mastic." He said that mirror mastic is the only trustworthy adhesive. Additionally, I should mention that the mirror that I used was an IKEA Godmorgon model, 48" wide x 38" tall. This mirror had a white back that had a plastic-like feel. After the failure, I noticed that the white backing was now wrinkled. i.e. bubbled, in long strips. I punctured it and discovered that the plastic is simply a safety backing to keep the glass together should the mirror break. I pulled it all off. Now the back of the mirror was a dull grey color. My new plan: The rectangular, wooden back frame is attached to the wall with Z-clips. I've left it in place and nailed a piece of plywood over it. I figure that the plywood will add a lot of additional surface area and the mirror is somewhat heavy (23 lbs.). Tomorrow I will put a few 2x4's to support the mirror; apply the mastic to the plywood, put the mirror on, and tape it to the wall so it doesn't fall over.

I got full walk mirrors (like in a dance studio) for FREE.... all you have to do is ask an apartment complex that is renovating and they usually just throw away the bathroom panel mirrors ;) I mean, ask the contractor not the apartment people cause They usually would probably say “sorry we can’t let you have it... yeah, it’s not ‘ours’ sorry” (or something BS) ....... or just wait til they put it by the dumpster if you don’t wanna ask lol

any reason you didn't put the LED on the backing of the mirror instead of on the wooden frame? As is, the lights are facing outwards so the light bouncing off the wall is only side lighting to the LED. If they faced the wall instead I imagine you'd see a lot more light bouncing back

The wood you bought was wet. When it dried, it shrank, distorting the mirror. To avoid this just keep the wood in the same room where you will be hanging it for 48-72 hours.
