What a joy to see an interesting presenter whom is also a superb fabricator as he takes the viewers through his build process! I particularly appreciated your meticulously precise craftsmanship (okay, the taillight positioning apart!) and your expertise shines through as you make it all look so straightforward! Watching the headache rack come together was especially good, seeing the precision cut angles of the top bar align perfectly with the uprights! This really was a fabrication masterclasd, one which I've eagerly subscribed to and I look forward to seeing your back catalogue, particularly on this truck.

I used to work as a blacksmith and make these things. I live in Iran, but now I work with trucks and I changed my job. You are a great card and you have no words to be successful.👍👍👍👏👏👏❤❤❤👌

It is not a problem with the chop saw. Electric motors, for a split second, draw more power when starting. I don't know the circuit brakes in the US, but in EU we have some that are resistant to starting over draw. I think you can also buy an adapter that will give your tool a gradual start that might help with that.

Just saw you on my recommended today. This is going to be one slick rig. I'm excited for you and for the next episode!

Brilliant job, and fun to watch. The gooseneck mount seems a be light for the trailer you have in mind. I kinda cringed when I saw the 6-8mm flat bar frame. I wonder if you reinforce it substantially in part two. Can’t wait to see both the trailer and and the truck hauling projects home. Nice one!

After working with metal all my life I can say without a doubt that you are a very talented craftsman!

Didn't read all the comments so this may already have been covered. When you overload a circuit breaker after a while it weakens, might be why it keeps tripping. Just a thought. Good job. I've done some fabrication over the years and really appreciate what you are doing.

Definitely would recommend adding and extra attachment to the frame. Especially from shearing (side to side movement) in the middle or so. Even if you just use large U-Bolts, that’s how most flatbeds are mounted actually. But otherwise looks awesome! Fuel filler necks usually always cut on the C-channel as you did. Rarely have I seen us route them above.

Was going to make the same comment. If you think about how the load from the 5th wheel ball transfers to the truck frame,…the load goes from the ball, to the cross member, to the subframe, where it then goes all the way to the front and back of the subframe where it’s finally bolted to the truck frame. Not a good load path. If he added a connection from the subframe to the truck frame at the midpoint, that load path would be much more direct.

I really like your calm demeanor, yet you’re obviously skilled at these projects. I especially like that you share the material specifications (thickness, dimensions etc) and the geometry of your fabrication as it progresses, as well as describing the tools you use and linking their sources for our convenience. Thanks!

Would make it a little hard if you get a flat

I would drill some 1" holes in those corner gussets for the headache rack. make for a great little spot to strap something down to. Really great looking build!

Fully agree. Nothing more disappointing than needing to ratchet something down with nothing to hook onto! He was also saying about installing a surprise for pulling the bed, might be incorporating it into the gussets or close by... Looking good so far though

You can buy a MT adapter and use the annular cutters in a drill press as well. I just punched a bunch of 1-1/2" holes in 1-1-4" plate..

they are awesome bits of kit, Andrew Camarata uses his a lot. I reckon it'd be a lot less messy if you didn't use the cutting fluid bottle and just squirted a little bit of oil or cutting fluid from an oil can or squeeze bottle during the drilling... just my two cents' worth!

Great video, Waldo, you got a ton done! Thanks for leaving in the whoops on the lights; we’ve all made mistakes like that. I’m envious of the new mag drill as well, they make such a nice hole.

A couple things I would do differently, I would install another fuel tank, I would do a bedliner on the deck and black paint on the rest, onboard air would be cool, some pin striping, internal tool box lights, lights in the head ache rack (bed lighting). Other than that it's perfect.

And either bring the gooseneck ball up to the deck or create a channel from the back of the bed to the ball it will be a pain jacking it up and down so much

Waldo, You are doing a great job. The only thing I might suggest is using louvers instead of round bars. I live out west and was amazed how cooler my 2 door cab was after installing a headache rack with louvers. I ordered my headache rack from Tumbleweed Manufacturing and they suggested I use louvers because I have a 2 door truck.

This is awesome We actually want to do this to our 1992 Ram W250 and you have definitely inspired us to go for it.

Your channel, just today, showed up as a recommend. Enjoyed it. If I might throw a couple of pennies in the till.. Someone recommended changing your breaker which is a good idea, as they do tend weaken over time especially under near constant heavy loads. Someone also mentioned extension cords. Most manufactures of welders, Plasma cutters and air compressors (the power trifecta) and the like don't recommend using extension cords. But, if you do, use the heaviest gauge wire you can reasonably get (greater than 12 Ga) and keep them as short as possible. It'll help somewhat but remember to add up the electrical loads (amps). A 20 amp breaker will hold for a little over 20 amps but you don't want them to ignite due to over-heating. That'll cause a whole different set of problems, if ya know what I mean. Cheers, and well done with the build.

Have a different mag drill from the same company, going on 5 years now with good success. Not used for daily work, but more than hobby use.

One thing I did notice (and this tells my age) is that you might want to fold your work clothes as soon as you take them from the dryer as both your shirt and pants were pretty wrinkled, lol. I think the most impressive thing about this video is the fact that he can get all that done outside. In Nebraska it's one of 4 things that make the entire day useless. 107 degrees -37 degrees 58 knot winds sustained Flies.

Those dry cut saws with Diablo blades are major time savers. They will save you hours on a job like this. Definitely worth the money in man hours you save on the first job

Very cool truck project and the bed looking good already. I'm waiting for to see it totally ready, it will become an awesome. It´s nice to watch how your working. You don´t have a big nice shop, you building outside or in a shed. You use quite simple and inventive methods. I really appreciate the way you do it. Just keep doing that.

Just came across your channel and nice job on your build! I’ve alway wanted to build my flatbed. You have some good pointers. Circuit breaker tripping: One thing I’ve learned over the years is if you keep tripping your breaker then you may need to replace your circuit breaker. Over time they get weak and trip easily under load. That might help with your breaker issue. Great video and new subscriber!

I have found also that sometimes the wire loosens in the terminal block that overheats and trips it. Look at that first.

I honestly like the lights stacked on top of each other as the “mistake” but I really liked the very in-depth build of this flat bed!! Great work!!👍

It's coming together, nice work. If I may, take that coolant bottle and flood system and file it right in the trash. When I was at the weld shop, we just used a spray bottle(windex etc) with band saw coolant in it and spray onto the cutter. I don't see the need for a "flood" system. But yes, the mag drills are a real life saver for parts that are awkward for a drill press.

"I built it myself." Music to my ears. Human? Yes. Silly? No. It looks fabulous. But, please still consider bedliner in lieu of paint; at least on the deck.

I got a wrecker version of his truck with a jerr dan wrecker box with a 12v ppumped cummins and the factory nv4500 whoever swapped the engine in mine tho shouldn't have been swapping engines

The next time i need to cut metal I'm buying a cut off saw. The mag drill and cutter set is awesome....will add to my shopping list.

This is so cool dude!

The headache bar as you so eloquently put it gives me a slight one. I believe you're gonna have to rethink the mounting of it if you want it to be secure. As it is now, anything hitting the top half of it will push it forward. It will simply bend the diamond plate upward and forward. The square tube portion of it should go below the deck and be connected to the bed frame or at least have thicker plates welded all-round to the bottom of the deck and the c-section. I love the look of it and I'm not disappointed with the videos nor the outcome of the truck so far, the lengths you go to just to make it your own is inspiring.

I love watching Patrick Bateman fabricate at night. Very peaceful and creative.

Been waiting for this video and man it did not disappoint!! I really like the design of the bed and the mag drill :-)

To prevent the 'birdnest' being created when drilling, release pressure on the quill every 10 seconds or so. This prevents strings from building up during drilling.

Very good, Great job. I love the fact that you speed up all you cuttings to lengthen the video and do your tutorial on how and what to do. N I C E.

Save some aggravation and add chain grabs through the deck area. Round key slot holes seen on most rollbacks. Really handy to secure things using chains, hooks or T hooks.

New, Came though my recommend feed, looks good. Can't wait to see part two.

To reinforce the 2" hole you made you should have drilled the hole a little larger and used a thick walled piece of pipe that is what I would do When I have to drill throug a beam for a cable pennatration on a ship I am required to put in a collar which has the same wall thickness as the thickness as the beam I am pennatrating

Amazing work! Perhaps consider adding some lights somewhere near your tail lamps to aid in hooking the trailer hitch up in the dark and a couple on the headache rack to help hooking the 5th wheel up in the dark. Again, you’ve turned a sow’s ear into a silk purse with the work done on the truck.

The c channel past the frome over the top of the tire needs to be cut off, there should be mounts from flatbed to frame in line with gooseneck !

so what saw are you using. The only cold cut saw I have seen is the evolution, but you said you bought a cheap chinese one.. so how is the speed ok for a cold cut saw vs abrasive saw..

You don't know how they do the fuel filler neck on professional flat decks? They do it poorly, they phone it in all the time... Of the 3 flat decks I have bought in my life all 3 needed me to redo the fuel filler neck

That's interesting to hear! It really does seem like a hard problem to solve. I guess I'll see how mine does, but maybe I'll add a second filler neck that comes straight up through a door in the deck. If I have a load preventing access, I can always use the side filler as a backup 🤔

I know its an old video but I had to say I really enjoy your channel. If you are still having trouble with your chop saw tripping the breaker I'll make a suggestion. My Milwaukee chop saw did the same thing. The fix was a slow blow 20 amp breaker which are sometimes referred to as appliance circuit breakers. The breaker trips due to the sudden demand load the saw places on the circuit. The strange thing for me and I suspect you too is the breaker would not trip every time I used the saw. I located a slow trip breaker to replace the standard breaker in my shop electrical panel and that solved the problem.

The magnetic drill I grew up with (think late 70's / early 80's), took 2 men & a boy, literally! 2 men to position it & a boy (me!) to flip the magnetic switch!! Love your videos & keep up the great work!

This is awesome. I am getting a 95’ K2500 Cheyenne Ex Cab/Long bed 4x4, 454/4L80E. Truck has sentimental value, but has rust on the bedsides, fenders, and parts of the cab. Can and fenders I want to fix, but really considering a flatbed of my own design. My daily is a newer F150, but it’s nice to see someone build a flatbed on the old GM OBS trucks

My 2012 3500HD was about $1400 and I built my own flatbed. I wanted a bed without rub rails and decided to build my own. I saved alot of money since the installation of a bed was about the cost of the steel to build a bed. Bed looks great.

Ok…. Couple things. 1st….I’m hooked on the channel. 2nd…. If you bought a deck, you couldn’t create those beautiful welds. 3rd….. you must buy welding wire by the pallet. 4th….. thanks for the content.
