Make sure that you have the filter material in the right direction for airflow. The arrows are marked on the cardboard edges of the filter. Filtered airflow should be TOWARDS your nose and mouth. I would also suggest that you minimize creating holes in the mask by using Magic Mend to put most of the pieces together. Or use it to seal your seams. Especially in the center of the mask. This will help to keep more viruses and bacteria from entering through the mask, extending the usefulness of your filter. Needle holes are Huge to microbes! It’s beautiful thoughtful people like you and your family that help us all to get through this crisis. Thanks again for sharing. God Bless You! Stay safe 😷

That's what I was going to say! I covered my seams with a skinny strip of iron-on interfacing. And so the wire can be removed for washing, make a small pocket above the filter pocket, leaving it open on the same side as the filter opening. Then both can be removed.

Stephanie brawner Wall for my Filterete filter the smooth side should be closes today your mouth and the most textured side will be facing the world. Hope this helps. If you loo close you can tell one side looks pressed more the other more flimsy

She is using cotton fabric, when you wash and dry it, the heat will cause the fibers to relax back into themselves. I know there are alot of tutorials that are showing the use of fabric adhesives for those without a machine or not comfortable with hand sewing , but sewing really is the preferred option here. If you really don't want to sew, I would recommend just using fabric/bandanna and hair ties for a quick no sew mask. I really don't believe fabric adhesives/glues will holdup long term for this application. I have family and friends in the medical community. In order to be properly used, these masks need to be very durable and hold up to repeated hot water washings. Each person should have multiple masks. Everytime a mask is removed for any reason, reentering your car, etc. you will need a new mask, the old one is now possibly contaminated. Remove the mask by the straps, do not touch the front, place into a bag and wash or sanitize hands. When reentering another public area, put on a new mask. When removing mask, repeat. Throw them into the wash at home. They can be washed with regular laundry, as long as the hot water cycle is used. You can hand wash in hot water if no machine is available. 😊

I'm braiding ponytail holders together ( cotton civered rubber bands). Just entertwine them by putting the end of one thru the center of another, then put the end of the 2nd one thru the middle of the 1st one and pull the outside ends of both simultaneously to tighten. I bought 100 on 1 card for $4.00 at the drugstore and am finding I use about 6 per mask - 3 for each side.

I foresee a future (after this pandemic ends) when people wear face masks to filter out all kinds of pollutants and pathogens. In a typical urban setting people inhale exhaust fumes from traffic, especially on major streets. Also on heavy allergy days this type of mask would make a sensitive person's life so much better. We are learning all kinds of ways to protect ourselves from external threats to our health. Optimizing our physical well being is a great idea.

I’ve sent them to my family in Germany, a friend in New Mexico, family in Northern Ireland and the plan is to make them for the staff in my local grocery store and the ladies in my book club; actually the book club seems to have morphed into a wine club!! Suddenly this sewing ability that was looked down on, ( years ago it was not a career that was seen to be profitable) has now become something to be lucrative, worthwhile and now everyone wants to learn how to sew.....

Use old clothing 100% cotton or order fabric on Amazon. If you drive go to Walmart in Long Island (Valley Stream). They sell crafts and fabric. Order the elastic off Amazon if none in Walmart. Good recommendation to use tshirt material. These ties are better than elastic behind the ear or head. I didnt want to cut up any tshirts, but bought some yardage. Cut a 1 inch strip and pull the strip to lengthen it until it is very taut. The strip will roll into soft, flexible, elastc tubes and hold this shape. It also greatly increases the length of usable material. If you cut the strip horizontally, it will roll to show the pattern. If you cut it verticaly, the wrong side of the fabric will be on the outside. Test this, as I may have it backward.

Hi Cowgirl! Great tip, thanks! I've been trying to figure out what to use for COMFORTABLE ear loops on masks, that I already have around home.

@@jett8193 Hi Yes I changed not only the fabric but the way I put them on. Honestly, at some point, over-the- ears eventually hurts on me. I'm now doing the one long - at least 40 " tshirt fabric tie. There are tutorials on how to put these on. Its the kind that first goes around the back of the neck and up through the bottom of the mask and ties either on top of head or over ears and back of head. I dont know how or I'd link where I learned it. Good luck!

Love how easy this was to follow. Gonna have to break out my sewing machine! Made one by hand for my husband using a hanes cotton sweatshirt and another shirt as the fabric. And used hair ties for the ear loops. No filter pocket though.

I've been making crochet mask with a cotton pocket. I just tried your pattern with some scrap fabric. It came out great! I hate using patterns and I usually make some type of mistake, but this was so easy, it came out right the 1st time.

I actually used chart fasteners that I stitched at the top after puting it inside and it fits the bridge of the nose for any age. I brought them years ago when i had a home office from Staples. Keep in mind my mask were the traditional make.

Wow great video! Your designs are fabulous and I wish I could do it like you but sorry I can't lol You're just too creative😍 I think I will just use my stappler, the filter material only , double it or even triple it to make lots of disposable masks.I have the elastic strings I got from Ebay and I'm going to get the exact filter you got from amazon.Next week, i will turn my tiny apartment into a mask factory 😃😃😃May God Bless and Protect us all🙏🙏🙏
