DIY FACE MASK from old clothes in 2 ways - Washable & Reusable face mask - No sewing machine

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi everyone,
It's Jess here and welcome back to my channel.
It's my extra video for this week. I think I should do it. Because it might be helpful for some of you.
As we're fighting the Corona virus, lot of doctors and nurses are working really hard right now. To keep the medical masks for them, please use a washable or reusable face mask as you can. That's the reason why I'm making this video to share with you 2 ways to make a face mask from your old clothes.
I made it by hand. So you can do it too without a sewing machine.
The technique I use can also apply for the different ages (Adult and children). So I hope you could do it for yourself and for your loved one.
Some information for this DIY:
- Sewing machine: Merrit Joyful Sewing
- Material: old T-shirt. You can use shirt or other materials
Link for the template:
1- First face mask: drive.google.com/file/d/1Y7wx...
2- Second face mask: drive.google.com/file/d/1KM8Z...
It's a difficult and strange time for all of us. So stay strong. Please wash your hand, wear a face mask, stay at home and do social distancing. There're the small things we can do but help the community to fight the virus. I hope this video will give you some good vibes during this time.
Please like and share if you enjoy it. And also subscribe to my channel to check my other videos.

Cheers,

My 7yr old has leukemia....so our family were always in masks long before it was considered “okay” by the rest of the world. She looked at me after seeing so many people in masks and said “well...at least they won’t be staring at ME anymore since they all have them on”. It broke my heart. I guess this is a new way of life for everyone. I can’t help but think of how many kids will benefit. When u have a child with cancer and are in a crowded space (even before corona)...every cough or sneeze sounds like a bomb and u want to get out as quick as possible. Flu and common cold could kill these kids. Coronavirus is a nightmare.

Some people are complaining about this being too complicated. This looks like the best and simplest explication I've seen so far. I've made a few different masks following others and Jess gives the best way in my opinion. If you think this is too complicated, please keep your negative comments to yourself and try to find a better way elsewhere. Give constructive criticism if any.

New update. I just made 6 of these masks in about 2 hours. The hardest part was making the template and cutting out the material. I cheated by using a sewing machine, but being a guy i think I did rather well. Thankyou so very much for a super awesome education video. This was by far the most easy and comfortable mask I've ever worn. You are a beautiful lady with a kind heart!

I agree. I have MULTIPLE sewing machines and I think the only thing a sewing machine could possible do is ensure a tight stitching and making it look slightly "neater". If you sew this by hand just make sure your stitches are close together so they do not come open! Happy hand stitching ladies!!!

You can also put things inside to use as a filter. Cloth alone will help a little but, unfortunately, the virus can get through. There are some people using vacuum bags (cut up of course) as the filter & a pipe cleaner glued inside the material at the top of the mask so you can pinch it on the bridge of the nose like hospital masks.

All of the housekeeping, janitorial & garbage workers, especially in medical facilities *are* overlooked, and rarely given the respect they deserve. You have my deepest gratitude. My wife first worked garbage and janitorial at the hospital, and used to get sick so often doing it. Now works MRI, and is grateful everyday for the people working overlooked & under appreciated & underpaid jobs at her hospital. All of us, lets ask of management that they take good care of our housekeeping staff at our medical facilities!

I have a suggestion for those that don’t have hairbands, if your tshirt or material that you use is pretty stretchy you can cut strips of it in replacement for the hairband. It’s just as effective and you can adjust it depending how tight you want the mask; I just made a knot. Thanks for the tutorial Jess, this is the best and simplest one by far. Hope you and your family are safe !! ☺️

Lovely Angie . Hi. I’m Angie also. I just got more tips from someone. You can cut up bike inner tubes into strips. Buy bungie cords and take the fabric off the outside. That will expose a bunch of rubber bands! Cool huh?

  • @SteampunkDream

    @SteampunkDream

    4 жыл бұрын

If you don't have stretchy material around the collars of most shirts is an elastic band. Otherwise you can also use a bungie cord if you split the outer case there is normally elastic band inside with a cotton cover.

Or you can cut the hem off the bottom of the t-shirt or the sleeves and use that to make a face mask that ties on. I'd cut on the outside of the hem, then turn the long tube inside out, that way it's already stitched for you.

Since anyone could be infected with the virus and not even know it, wearing a mask will reduce transmission by trapping particles within the mask. No, it is not the same protection as an N95, but those need to go to the healthcare workers and anyone else on the front line of this pandemic. For the average person, until we can tell who has the virus and who doesn’t, wearing a mask is one more way we can slow the spread. And if everyone wore one when in public, along with social distancing, it would greatly help. Not prevent. But help.

I've noticed a shortage on certain kinds of round elastic for the bands that go around the ears. Try the "Health and Beauty" section of the store - I'm using my plain elastic thick hair bands! The old ones which have stretched out a bit work better, but I think you could just make the fabric portion a little longer if the ties are too short/tight.

I made one the other day and just used hair elastics and stitched a "sleeve" like the 2nd one for them to slide through. If it pops I can use ribbon and he can tie it or even a headband and stitch it like in the video.

@@kharlie22 I'm now making masks from 1 layer of Tshirt and two layers of 800 thread count cotton sheet. My Maine Coon "thoughtfully" put a rear claw into it, and tore a giant hole. Bonus, it was a bottom sheet, so now I have more elastic too.

I've tried making many masks, but they were too complicated to make and the outcome was not the best. Yesterday my husband and I tried making the second mask on the video and it came out better than what I expected. We made our masks using an old, 100% cotton shirt. The masks fit nice, snug, are comfortable to wear, and only took us 30 minutes to make them. If my husband can make one, anybody else can.

Nancy, any mask has to fit tight with no gaps around the nose or anywhere. 20,000 viru is particles can fit on the head of a PIN! An infectious disease viral Dr. Pointed that out. So take a PIN + imagine 20,000 particles of deadly vir is on it, see if you have no area that the pin head can fit through. These home made masks are like putting a bandaid on a vein that's cut straight through imo.

A tip as well: If you don't have elastic, old T-shirts, shorts, or even underwear usually have elastic that can be cut out and used.

Instead of sealing up the two ends where the elastic or ties go, leave those open. Hem both ends independently, then stitch the top and bottom of the pieces together, leaving the top and bottom openings for the ties/bands open. Does that make sense? I wish I could include a visual.
