I learned how to PUNCH NEEDLE in just 7 days 🌱

Ойын-сауық

Learn how to Punch Needle with me! Punch Needle is a super cute craft where you can make adorable fluffy designs~ For my final project I made a Totoro Tote (or as I like to call it, a TOTE-oro) and I was really happy with how it turned out!
I learned a LOT about how to improve my Punch Needle technique, so hopefully if you decide to learn the craft, you can learn from some of my mistakes haha.
PS I hope that some of y'all recognized that the sprout emoji in the title is reference to Totoro's leaf umbrella hehe. Leave a comment if you did 😂

The type of fabric makes a huge difference in your punch needle experience! A really tight woven fabric doesn't leave a lot of room for the needle to punch through. Also the angle is inportant. The needle should be straight up and down. You did an excellent job with what you did! Also, there are special hoops you can get that really can lock the fabric in place so the fabric doesn't slip. I'm inspired and totally going to do something on a tote now too!

I love the honesty of this! I’ve also realized a lot of crafts look easier on social media than they actually are - I took up knitting in 2021 and I remember it taking me months to actually feel like I was smoothly knitting without frustration and lots of mistakes. On top of that, it takes even more weeks/months of course to get to actual finished wearable garments. The short videos can make it seem so quick and easy to pick up, so I appreciate you being honest about how long it took you! Tbh I thought punch needling looked easy haha but this sets up realistic expectations. I would love to see more realistic learning how to do XYZ videos from you :)

I'm so glad you enjoyed the video haha. There's nothing wrong with the ~aesthetic~ videos, but for newbies like me the crafts really do tend to be harder than they look haha. And I'm definitely planning to make more of this type of video in the future! 😊

Well, social media mostly show you a good part. Like the best outcome u can get. It doesn't show the amount of time u cursed at yourself because u keep doing the same fucking mistake, the amount of time u tried to do something decent and it did not work and u just want to scream because of it. But thats literally how you learn; by doing an okay thing first and gradually learn from your mistakes. Don't let social media fools you. Try, do mistakes, do better.

Try machine knitting - it's fun and you get garments to wear that don't take weeks to make. Best of all, because stitch making is much faster you feel freer to create your own designs.

Hello ! Nice job ! I like your Totoro ! If I can give you a few tips : - "match" the yarn thickness with the fabric hole size (if you use a canva with big holes it's better with thick yarn / small holes -> smaller yarn). Also, make sure your fabric is really tight (almost like a drum). - your needle needs to be straight (90° angle with the fabric), and the hole the needle should face towards the direction you are going. - push the needle as far as you can go (the plastic part after the needle should touch the fabric), then when you go to make another loop try to keep the needle as close to the fabric as possible (in the video I can see you pull it sometimes too far and that causes the loop to be pulled from your canva). - when trimming the loops: use thiner scissors so you can be more precise I hope this helps (and that me English was understandable because I am not an English speaker) :) Good luck with your other projects but with what I've seen here I am sure you will do wonderful things :)

you can buy a pair of small yarn scissors that are really sharp and precise to help quicken your cutting. I love this video and seeing all the trial and error before the attempt!
