DIY Colored Concrete Vessel / Container for Candle or Planters

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

**Formula I talk about in this video is below**
Hi! In this video, I go over how to make your own colored concrete container at home! Whether you are a candle business owner or love crafts, this is the perfect container/vessel for your candle needs! It also can be repurposed into a planter when the candle is done! Learn how to dye/color concrete using two different techniques. One with acrylic paint and one with Direct Colors pigment dye.
The formula for calculated wax:
Oval Container = 12oz
Cylinder = 9oz
12+9 = 21 oz of wax needed for both containers
with 10% Fragrance Oil Load = 2.1 oz of Fragrance Oil
Subtract Fragrance Oil Needed from Wax Needed to get the total amount of wax needed
21 oz - 2.1 oz = 18.9 oz of wax needed
If you have any questions, please post them below!

    Hey Kala, I want to thank you so much for your videos. I love the look of concrete vessels. I have a question about sealing the inside. Do you let your containers dry for a few days before sealing or do you seal once you take it out of the mold.

  • @WizeOwlCandles

    Hi Kala! Thanks for your videos and being so helpful! I remember you saying that you got a big wholesale order and had to buy more molds. When you were starting out with your molds for your cement jars, how many molds did you buy to start with? And what was your workflow like? Making two at a time, waiting and then making more…? When you were testing with the cement vessels, did you use the same vessel multiple times to test, or you’d just make a new candle? I ask just to know if the cement would hold up with multiple candle lives. :) What are your favorite colors, or what colors do you have, for powder color? Thanks again! Love your channel.

  • @WizeOwlCandles

    @WizeOwlCandles

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi! Thanks for watching! Starting out I had one mold for each container. As I figured out which molds were selling better I bought more as I went. I usually made my Etsy orders once they were ordered. For example one of my marbled ovals sold well so I started to make more of that container ahead of time - a couple a day. For the wholesale I did end up buying 7 cylinder molds because I had 75 to make. I ended up making a batch every morning and night and then pouring them all at once. For testing I recommend only using the container once. I haven't reused a container for a candle - I have reused as a planter. I hope that helps! 😊

    Polyacrylic isn’t recommended to seal concrete according to the manufacturer. Just fyi. Also, you need to wait until the concrete cures b4 sealing. The round molds come off easier if you cut the lip off the bottom.

  • @WizeOwlCandles

    @WizeOwlCandles

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for all your feedback :) I use earth safe sealer now if you watch any of my videos that is updated. The manufacturer hasn't tested polycrylic on concrete so that is why they can't recommend it for that. Also I do say in my video to allow the concrete to "cure" before sealing so I do agree with you there 👍 I've never had an issue demolding my round mold but that's a great tip! Hi! Thanks for watching :) I would say if you are using a high quality fragrance oil then maybe check what temp you are adding your oil at. If you add it to hot then it'll burn off and if you add it too cold it won't bind. Depending on your wax is what temp you want to add. I use golden wax 464 , I add at 160 :)

    I use Freedom soy wax from Village Craft and Candle in Ontario. It’s in pellet form and can be microwaved to 160 degrees. I sell candle-making kits so the microwaveable wax makes it easy for a first time maker. But freedom wax is soy and needs a two week cure time for the best hot throw. It makes a big difference!!

    Hi from Ottawa Canada! I’m so confused about sealers! I bought the Minwax and “Varathane” sealers I have seen on your video and others. But the man at Lowe’s said that those sewers are for interior wood and said I couldn’t use that. He sold me a gallon of a general concrete sealer. I also bought the really expensive Clark’s Stone and Concrete sealer but it’s expensive and hard to seal molds that have an embossed or decorative outside. What does your Minwax can say it’s used for? Maybe we have different products in Canada.
