This is brilliant. The Pax wardrobes look great, but people who have installed them said they're a pain in the you know what. The house we bought had custom closets in each bedroom, but the bozos who installed them left lots of unpainted areas and it's very hard to get in and touch up! Also, even if you own, your lifestyle and tastes change, so moveable pieces are better.

Exactly what I need for a master reach in closet! Genius ... my hanging will be at both ends with billy bookcases in the middle. Thank you!

Your project looks great! I've been planning to do this with my closet for a couple of years now. Wish I'd bought the Billy Bookcases before inflation caused a 35% price increase. 😬 Amazing that using the predrilled holes for the shelves was the perfect depth for your closet rod, leaving space for your hangers! Did you have any issues with bulkier items on hangers hitting the back if the shelves?

The billy bookcases have definitely became pricey that’s why I included the target option. In the video I adjusted my rod to where I would have enough room to hang my blazers and bulky items. I would suggest that when you’re installing your rod place a hanger with a jacket or a bulky item on it and adjust the rod to where it would hang freely.

You did a great job, my question is what’s the name of the bookshelf that’s on the left….it looks wider than the others

Thank you 💕. All the bookshelves I used are the Ikea Billy bookshelves. They come in different sizes so you can arrange them based on size and need to fit your space.

How did you compensate for the two electrical outlets that you blocked plus the vent. did you cut some holes in so you can access the electrical outlets and vent?

There is another vent in the room behind the standing mirror as well as two electric outlets on the adjacent walls. I use an outlet extender in the remaining outlets so I have room to plug in multiple items at once. However, if your space is not equipped as mine you can cut a hole in the back of the shelf or use a multi-outlet extension cord.

Not sure if there’s still any traffic here but this looks like a pretty dang easy alternative to what I’m looking to build myself soon. Question tho, aren’t your hangers hitting the back wall when hanging stuff? I’ve seen that hanger rods are generally a minimum of 12 inches from the wall but these bookshelves are only 11 inches.

Sorry for the late response, I’ve been away for a while. I’ve hung blazers and coats and they hang freely. I used a hanger to mark where I placed my rod because I was thinking the same thing but it worked perfectly

Wow! Where did you get such w big closet in a rental?? Mine is just the standard folding doors and it takes up about 1/2 of one wall.

The closet is actually an extra bedroom. I turned a bedroom into a closet and office because my closet was too small.

The rod that connects the bookshelf to the wall is the same rod shown in the video. The link is in the description and they come in different lengths. To install it is just like installing it on the bookshelf you just need the screws into the wall instead.

Nice! May I ask. Did the rod holder that needs to be screwed in come with the rod? Or is there a separate piece to purchase? From where?

Hi thx for this video , I want to build my wife a closet / beauty / office room , it a open bonus room in our bed room. I’m torn between the target step vs the IKEA step up…why did u go with IKEA over target?

Thanks for watching and I know your wife is gonna love it. I only used the Ikea shelves because my partner had them in storage and wanted to get rid of them. I like the Ikea Billy collection because they have a variety of sizes but with recent price increases, they are a bit pricey. The Target shelves are a great option if you’re trying to save a little but for future use I like the Ikea bookshelves because you can add doors, drawers, etc., to change the function.
