Making DIY Candle Jars at home with Jesmonite and Boowan Nicole Molds.
Welcome to my channel!
This was my first time gluing Jesmonite pieces together. I'm not sure how durable it'll be, but it's holding up quite well for the time being.
I reached out to Madmayker, a distributor of Jesmonite, and they confirmed that Jesmonite AC100 is ASTM E84 Fire Class A (Class 1) rated and is safe for heat exposure and can be used to make candle vessels. They also recommend sealing the outside of AC100 candle jars with Acrylic Sealer or Acrylic Gloss Sealer, but at this time, don't recommend sealing the inside with their Acrylic Sealer. If you wish to seal the inside, it would be necessary to source a sealer that is specifically rated for exposure to flame.
I previously used Clarks Natural Stone & Concrete Wax to seal my jars because it was an all natural option, but when I reached out to the company, they explained that their wax will begin to melt as temperatures climb over 100° and will become completely liquid by 180°. Therefore, I didn't seal the inside of my Jesmonite jars this time around. I'm not sure how it would react with the wax and flame once the sealer is melted. Please conduct your own research and testing to ensure you're creating a safe product :)
I used a mold from Boowan Nicole in this video and changed it up a bit by creating a daisy lid- perfect for summer! I also tested some ultimate wood wicks for the first time from Village Craft and Candle. I found they fizzled out with the wax & fragrance oil combination I used. Double wicking stabilo wicks worked best for me based on my testing. I would love to use wood wicks in my candles one day and will continue to test other options.

Thank you for sharing your creative imagination in switching the lid handle. Very clever of you. I've been keeping my eye on this mold for a while but just can't get past the ring at the top. I really wish the company who creates these molds would see your video and be inspired to make different lids for their vessels. Great video. Love your color choices.

Thank you so much for watching :) I agree! I wish they had some interchangeable lid options instead of having to purchase a whole new mold.

helllloo!! i was wondering how the gorilla glue held up for connecting the two jesmonite pieces. Is it a super strong hold or did it break apart eventually??

hello!! So far it's still holding up, but to be honest I don't touch it frequently. I think I took the lid off a few times to light the candle, but that's it. Thank you so much for watching :)

Hello Joolie! Thanks for sharing your experiments! Always looking lovely 💖 I still didn't get one thing. If I make a candle, can I use the Acrylic Sealer from Jesmonite for sealing inside of a jar?

Hello! Thank you so much for watching :) I appreciate your comment 💖 Sorry for the confusion. I’ve pasted the response from Madmayker regarding Jesmonite Acrylic sealer below. I’d recommend reaching out to them for more clarification, but based on their email, I don’t recommend using their sealer for the inside of candle jars. If it's just a decorative jar, it should work just fine :) “Jesmonite does not make a sealer that is rated for exposure to flame, though they are currently undertaking tests for this. We recommend sealing the outside of AC100 candle jars with Acrylic Sealer or Acrylic Gloss Sealer, but we do not, at this time, recommend sealing the inside with these materials. If you wish to seal the inside, it would be necessary to source an acrylic sealer that is specifically rated for exposure to flame.”

@joolieshome thank you for the response! That's super interesting! I made couple candles with sealing inside walls with their Jesmonite Sealer and all was good. So, I was surprised to get this info.

I was surprised to hear it too because I wanted to purchase it for my candle vessels! If you’ve done your own testing and research it could be safe to use. Sometimes we get conflicting information from different companies selling the same product. I’m not an expert in this area so I’m also just trying to figure it out as I go. Please update me if you have more information on it as well :)
