If you love the idea of creating handmade gifts, this candle jar mold is an absolute game-changer! Pour your favorite scented wax, mix in festive colors and you can make an elevated gift for friends and family. I chose this mold because it was so unique! Thank you Boowan Nicole for sending some products to try :)
I reached out to Madmayker, a distributor of Jesmonite, and they confirmed that Jesmonite AC100 is ASTM E84 Fire Class A (Class 1) rated and is safe for heat exposure and can be used to make candle vessels. They also recommend sealing the outside of AC100 candle jars with an Acrylic Sealer or Acrylic Gloss Sealer, but at this time, don't recommend sealing the inside with these materials. If you wish to seal the inside, it would be necessary to source an acrylic sealer that is specifically rated for exposure to flame.
I used Clarks Natural Stone & Concrete Wax to seal my jars in this video because it was an all natural option, but when I reached out to the company, they explained that their wax will begin to melt as temperatures climb over 100° and will become completely liquid by 180°. Therefore, going forward, I won't be sealing the inside of my Jesmonite jars. I'm not sure how it would react with the wax and flame once the sealer is melted. Please conduct your own research and testing to ensure you're creating a safe product :)

I have a love/hate relationship with this mold. I use Hydrostone and the top (actually bottom) of the vessel is always thin. I then switched to Cement All and it's been a bit better. Your vessels are gorg!!!!

Thank you!! I love these vessels as well, the mold is great! I bought some fresh Jesmonite to try making them again. Oh, which part is thin? The pedestal base? I definitely want to try hydrostone as well, so that’s good to know. Do you recommend a good pigment for it?

@@joolieshome yes the pedestal part of the mold needs to be a bit thicker, but it's still a great mold. For Hydrostone I always use acrylic pouring paint, not too thin but not thick-like because if it's too thick it'll compromise the integrity of the vessel wall and crack during candle burning.

Great! Thanks for the info. I'll definitely look into acrylic pouring paint with hydrostone!

Hi! Thank you so much for watching :) I actually wanted to reorder some Jesmonite as well so I reached out to the company I originally purchased it from, Fibertek, but they don't carry it anymore :( They're on the west coast, but even with shipping they had the best prices. They told me that madmayker is now the distributor of Jesmonite. Prices are a little high, but they are in the Toronto area so shipping to Qc may be faster! Hope that helps. If I find any other suppliers I'll let you know. I'm on the hunt as well :)

Thank you! This is a great question and something I should have investigated myself. I assumed it would be safe since it's an all-natural wax, but I will verify with the company. I just sent them an email and will share with you their response! Also, congratulations on beginning your Jesmonite making journey! I think it's one of the most durable eco-resins on the market :)

What do you use to seal? I made a hydrostone candle vessel and during testing it seaped through

I used Clarks natural wax in this video, but the company explained that their wax will begin to melt as temperatures climb over 100° and will become completely liquid by 180. I’m not sure how it will react with the wax & flame once melted. I’ll probably need to do more research/testing with it, but I didn’t notice any wax seeping out of the Jar during my burn test so that’s a good sign. I’m considering the Earth Safe Finishes sealer that many people recommend for their concrete jars. I’ll definitely post another video once I test it out :) Which sealer did you use for your hydrostone vessel?

I can totally relate to this comment! My biggest challenge with Jesmonite is is the working time/ pot life. It sets up so fast and then it's hard to tap the bubbles out. It gets better over time :) Is there anything in particular that you're struggling with? I can try to help!
