DIY Boom Mount for Whitewater Kayaks / GoPro Mounting Option

Спорт

I often like to mix in several different angles of the action while capturing our adventures. One of the most enjoyable views is the stern boom. Looking for a better option than the one I was previously using, I came upon this design. Here is the DIY Boom Mount build that I recently did. Save some money and build one for yourself! I present the Boommaster5000! LOL

I tried to make one using pvc, thinking it would bend instead of breaking. Unfortunately, pvc isn't stiff enough to hold an action camera lol. Definitely going to be making one of these. Thank you for sharing pete!

Great work Pete. Enjoyed that build. Good idea been wondering how I could make my own camera mount. But I will steal yours if you don’t mind.

Cool, thanks for sharing. The boom mount is contected to the grab bar similar to a spigot insulatation box that uses the spigot as an anchor (you tighten it so that it is tight to the house - similar to tightening the hook on a kayak)

@@RiverKingsKayak what if you install a spring in the top half incase you roll or it gets hit? Or like a tension spring on some tent poles etc.

Hey Pete, great video! I'll have to give that a try. I'm experimenting with different mounts and cameras (should probably make the videos to prove it) and I was wondering if you've tried using 360 camera with that mount. I bet it would give you some great footage. Out of idle curiosity, does that mount pose any danger with preventing a roll in a sort of shallow situation or is it so short that you wouldn't be able to roll anyway? I dont yet have the skills to do white water, I am just wondering. I saw you rolling in the beginning of the video, so it looks like theres no interference for a normal situation. Keep up the great work!

Sorry I missed it! Love DIY stuff. This one leaves me with a question though. Why did you build this one differently than the one on Nana? Just to build it (I would do it for the sake of doing it too!) or does it give an advantage over the Ram Mount on Nana?

Thanks Dean! The RAM mount I use for the Yukon just didnt hold up well in ww. It was very wobbly and hard to keep in place.
