    The engineering in this is so simple and elegant. Really nicely done. Can't believe you melted down milk cartons into a sheet so you could reuse the plastic for something down the road. Who does that? Really cool reuse of that plastic, though. Seems like every episode I'm saying to myself, "Wow, I would never have thought of that." Like using a reclaimed seat belt retractor from a car to help keep the movement of the bed safe. Just awesome. We need more of that kind of out-of-the-box thinking nowadays.

    So... I am going to comment on this series. I stumbled across this while searching for tiny DIY houseboat builds, thinking I could find some sort of design I could do myself. Well it became evident very quickly that I could NEVER do anything remotely resembling this. That didn't stop me of course from clicking through every single episode. Every episode I was totally in awe of how you handled this build, the ingenuity, the creativity, just ingenious and so impressive. I have to ask, what do you do for a living sir? The skill you showcase here is that of a boat builder or serious carpenter, you are not a weekend wood worker please tell me it isn't so. You are my new hero sir seriously! I have subscribed to your channel so I can continue to follow this build (not sure if it is already completed or not) but also to get notified of whatever you deciude will be your next project cause yeah, I want to see that too! Go Canada and go Canadians like yourself sir, you make me proud to live in this country :)

    Wow Andrew, I can't put in words how much I appreciate your comment! Thank you very much for making my day and motivating me to continue with this project! I used to be a dental technician but I quit my career 7 years ago. I couldn't handle the stress and needed a change so I worked all over the place from landscaping, beeing a ranchhand, I took on "helper" jobs for an electrician and an outfitter company, but really nothing that has to do with woodworking. I learned what I know on youtube in my free time. As of right now, we run a little farmer market garden in the summer and I try to survive on the odd side job, like building custom furniture, and caretaker jobs. Money is tight and without the full support of my wife this would not be possible, which is part of the reason why so much material is recycled in this built. I truly believe with enough time and effort and the help of the endless information source, the internet, nearly everything is possible. (The biggest factor beeing time, I hope I get this boat done before I am all gray😁)

    @@adrianwoodworm No need for thanks, we should all be thanking you for showing us anything is possible! All that talent learned from watching KZread??? Well maybe initially to give you the inspiration but you certainly have an ingrain aptitude for this, not everyone can do this, no matter how many KZread videos you watch. I'm sure your wife is proud of you sir, without the risk of leaving your career and starting something new, you would not be able to enjoy that beautiful houseboat so hang in there, keep working on it because it will bring both of you (and your girls) a totally new quality of life and memories that will last forever. For myself, I think I will aim for something a little smaller like that little solar fit in the van weekend getaway deal, more in line with my talents I think :) I will be watching for new episodes, thank you again :)

And if you think you are getting old and lazy, I would have either used old army cots, an air mattress, or even some hammocks. All of which would make me look and walk like Quasimoto. I also love that helm wheel. It reminds me of the escape hatch of an submarine…..very cool 😎. Please do make a video on building those helm wheels. Thanks again for sharing your work. 👍👍👍

    Awesome, I just would have put the wheel on the wall.

  • @adrianwoodworm

    @adrianwoodworm

    Жыл бұрын

    I considered it but I decided against it. It would have taken a lot of rerouting with lots of pulleys to make it to the wall. The only places where I would have space to mount the weel on the wall would have been also a little awkward to access. I just didn't want cable and pulleys all over the place. In a different situation this would be a good choice though!

    I thought you were going to use a single stage boat winch (about 500 pound) but the capstan looks good.

    Amazing! I'm really impressed with the solution to the problem here. I've also been looking for a "Ceiling bed" solution at home. This solution is by far the most impressive in terms of simplicity and ease of construction.I think, even with with my limited building skills, this is achievable. I'm planning one as we speak! Aside from the winch, is there any other things you would change or you think could be improved? Thanks for sharing!

  • @adrianwoodworm

    @adrianwoodworm

    7 ай бұрын

    I obviously haven't used it yet since the boat is not finished, so I can't give you an opinion based on experience, but as of right now the only thing I would change is the winch and the way the lights are powered. Someone in the comment section had a brilliant idea, he suggested to use a spring to create a contact when the bed is up and disconnect when in the lower position. This way I could wire it in the onboard electric vs. running it on an additional battery. That of course has nothing to do with the functionality of the actual bed, but I thought it is really cool idea.

  • @daleskidmore1685
    @daleskidmore1685 Жыл бұрын

    A very cool solution. I love how you do not have to compromise on the size of the bed and that the lighting makes it more like a feature ceiling than just a stored away bed.

    What about side loading when at anchor?

  • @adrianwoodworm

    @adrianwoodworm

    2 жыл бұрын

    I assume you mean the sideloads when the boat gets rocked a little by waves or wind and wants to move the bed sideways as well? That is a good thought. I am realizing now that it is not visible in this video how stable the bed is when it comes to side loads. When I made the brackets for the arms I made sure to make them quite big to minimize lateral movement. But because of the flexibility of the wood and the minimal clearance between bracket and the arms there is still a small amount of movement. Once I installed the latches at the stop bocks I was able to take most of it out though, even though their main purpose and direction of applied force is different. Not sure if I was able to explain this properly, but thank you for bringing this up, I might get back to this in the next video!

    so you are going to put all that weight on the upper deck of your boat? I thought we established how poorly flat bottom boats perform on water?

  • @adrianwoodworm

    @adrianwoodworm

    2 ай бұрын

    You thought wrong. Flat bottom hulls are extremely stable in calm water, which is what this boat is intended for. They also benefit from a very shallow draft. As with every hull shape, it has pros and cons, it all depends on the intended use. There is only one deck on this boat. As mentioned in the video, the suspended bed frame is only 60 lbs, which is nothing in comparison to the weight of all the installments, water and fuel tanks and the batteries in the bottom half of the boat.
