Great bed lift design, very impressive. And the shower/bath and electrical controls are top notch. Using the vinyl flooring planks on walls and cabinets is spot on with design and workmanship. Really well done! You have a very nice trailer, sir! Congratulations

Thanks, Snarge22. I liked the option to bring it down lower. For younger people who don’t mind a little step into the bed - the other options are good. There really are so many good ideas to research on KZread - just need to find what works best for each of us and go for it!

Thanks, Live & Breathe - yea, I’m sure I’d change a few things on the bed but this one works! I like the beds with the support struts - I even purchased a couple but my wife & I are a little to old to climb up in the bed - I needed it to be much lower than anything I could muster with the struts. 🤷🏼‍♂️. I’m still working ways to make it better - watching KZread video! 🤣

Great trailer build.. I've used those E•track and brace bars for over 30 years and they're not going to fall down. I've stacked 2 500 pound pallets on them from the front to the rear of my 53 foot semi trailer. I've never had any come lose.

Thanks, Bob. I will tell you, I ordered the first system on the AliExpress web site, a company I think called Vtopek - that was a 9 month disappointment and loss of $200.00. I had purchased many items from AliExpress but that one burned me - have not used since.

hi! great work on the trailer - she looks gorgeous! regarding the video, it has been uploaded in 360p which is super low resolution. Bumping recording/processing/uploading all the way to 4K or at least 1080p (which is already getting 'old') would be recommended imho :)

Thanks, again Living-working Outside the box. I’ve had enough questions on the bed build I’m going to do more videos on it. I’ll work on the “list” too. The shoring beams are an important & expensive item. US Cargo Control 85” -96” (7 ft-8 ft) E Track Load Bar - Adjustable Aluminum E Track Shoring Beam/Decking Beam with Patented Flat Latch for Trailers, Trucks, and Semi-Trucks - 2 Pack a.co/9CvhUMh The E track can be purchased in many places and if you want more height adjustments you can get the E track in vertical configuration. The other odd or unique purchase is the overhead door bar & bearings that the straps fasten too. I listed that for another person - I’ll try to find that info. That bed was not cheap to build - then I had to purchase the mattress!

Hi Jim, I enjoyed watching your video. Well done!!! I did a very similar bed lift design to yours. Mine is in a Mercedes Sprinter van. For the lifting mechanism, instead of using a winch, I used a 24v windscreen wiper motor. Works very well... Food for thought for next version of a fit out. :)

Happy to share the info on the motor. What's your email address, I'll email you the motor pdf specifications document, my wiring diagram and any photos I took along the way. I haven't done a video of it. Maybe I should have but I just wanted to get on the road. :) My bed lift is similar to bren5279 (youtube channel). I borrowed some of his good ideas and added few of mine own. I think his video is fantastic.

Love this idea. This is the second time I have seen a “lift” bed done this way. I have my bed installed very similar in mine using unistrut I just need to figure out the lift system now. Any way you could list the individual garage door parts in the comments? That way I know just what to ask for? And as for the boat crank, is that just one from harbor freight? Love the videos so far. Keep up the great work!!

You are right - it is the inexpensive boat wench from Harbor Freight - I’ll either use a motor or a better quality boat wench. That 1” pipe & bearings really is what 90% of garage doors use - the two big springs for the garage door are anchored on that same pipe. I dug Thru my recipes- it is called a 1” I.D Bearing - purchased 2 @ 3.45 each and the pipe is called a 9’ 9” Torsion Tube (9 foot door) - it was $29.95. So - I was wrong on the cost - those 3 items cost $39.89 total - sorry, I thought it was cheaper. No wonder I’ve got 30.0k in this build! I purchased it from Able Direct International Door, LLC in Richardson, TX 972.792.8800. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Arturo I’m an older guy who has been in & around the construction world for many years - I finished my 4 year electrical apprenticeship in 1979 - so I do have a lot experience and have made a lot of mistakes! This camper build was a new thing for me but I could use many of my skills. Still, not a great carpenter so I don’t have any drawers in the build. Thanks again for your nice comment.

Thanks, Music - I’m 5’ 10” and with the mattress I have on the bed - I stoop down a little with the 7’ tall trailer. I’m getting ready to upload a video that includes the bed being lowered - you will get a good view of the room with the bed up and me walking under it. At 5’ 11” you will need a narrower mattress or a taller trailer if you want to comfortably walk under it. I personally would probably opt for a 7’ 6” trailer next time if the price was not way out of line. Not sure there will be a next time - still doing improvements on this one 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Very nice! A lot of other systems seem more complicated than they need to be. I hear what sounds like a spring loaded latch on the cross beam extensions (with the bolt) that hook into the side wall track. Is that right? How do you keep the bedframe from sliding left to right on that piece?

Thanks, Elane- yes, you are right. When I cut the Adjustable Heavy-Duty Aluminum E-Track Decking/Shoring Beam | Cargo Load Lock Bars I installed a rubber strap that draws the locking mechanism into the shoring beam. The shoring beam needed to be cut 3” narrower than the width of the trailer and the beam does slide sometimes to one side or the other but it is easy to grab the beam and pull it to center and unsnap the locking mechanism that clips into the e track. Once the clips are in place with the bed up or down - it is not going anywhere. I thought I’d put a supplemental device on it but it is not needed.

@@coachgym - great, thanks for the reply. Definitely a configuration that I think I can build over some of the others. The way it locks definitely adds some security. Can you describe or have any pics of how you mounted the straps to the ceiling? That seems to be a critical point.

@@elanegraves1811 yes, those steel strap holders are fastened with the largest self tapping screw I could get in them. If you look closely at about 11 minutes into the video you will see the strap holder. I think this will help you. I will tell you that I’m thankful there are 4 of them - one on each strap because I do think they take a good load with the mattress on the platform. If they ever pull out - I’ll need to rework a good portion of the ceiling. Take a look at about the 11 minute mark and see if it is pretty clear.

Excellent job Jim! I'm planning to make one for my trailer. I've seen a couple like this but you showed the details I was missing. Is that a solid pipe? You mentioned something about 1" conduit... I really appreciate you posting your build. Trailer looks awesome!

MrBowNaxe - thanks for your nice comment. Yes, the conduit is 1” EMT pipe for all the bracing on the bed. The pipe and pillow bearings are garage door type and purchased from a garage door company - bearings & 1” pipe was about $40.00 - I put in another comment the exact thing I purchased but I’m having a tough time finding that original response. The garage door 1” pipe is much different than the EMT - and works with the two bearings. I got that idea from Bill Ellison in the KZread video below kzread.info/dash/bejne/hKOWqbuDd73Yj6w.html

I’m going to save this one. I’ve got a build idea for a toy hauler for two motorcycles. Is it possible to sleep in the bed while the bikes are underneath? You have some great ideas. What size was this trailer?

Thanks, Mark - 16’ X 7’ X 7’ with a 32” V nose. Ordering with the longer tongue is important if you want to install the condensing unit up front. You can’t sleep in the bed with the bike under it. I think you would need to have an 8’ tall trailer to do that. The 7’ that I have is 6” taller than a typical build - if I were to do another I might go with a 7’ 6” but going larger in any dimension has it’s issues. Thanks for checking out my build.

Thanks John, Yes - here is the info on the walls & cabinet fronts. Reasonable price but I scratched it in a few places when I was installing. Paneling finish Oak 48-in x 96-in Embossed White Oak Wall Panel www.lowes.com/pd/Oak-47-75-in-x-7-98-ft-Embossed-White-Oak-Wall-Panel/1000937538 I used ideas from several guys in Canada. I think the manufactured and self built in Canada are often better quality than here in the states. Probably because many are used in colder climates. Thanks again for checking out my KZread site.

Thanks, Leslie- I purchased those form IKEA. They are called “trones”. They are $40.00 for two - each “stack” is a set of two - so the cost is $80.00 for each stack. They do tilt out & have stayed in place going down the road. Typically used for shoe storage but we use them for towels, and many other items.

You basically drill out one side of the wench - a little larger than the outside diameter of the pipe. The pipe slips into the drilled out side of the wench & slips over the post of the wench. Drill through the pipe and the post or racket mechanism with a 3/16” bit & put a small bolt through with a nut. Sounds complicated but it really is not. The 1” pipe the straps wrap on becomes the bearing on the side of the wench you have drilled out. I have a few more pictures - I may need to post another short video on the connection & modification of the wench - let me know if that would be something you would like to see.

Hello Inosuke - I cut about 8” off each one. When you do your build - you must get a good measurement of the interior- wall to wall space with the e track on the wall - I then took an additional 3” off the beam. You must drill out a “keeper” that holds one of the slides in place and replace it with a carriage bolt when you put the slide mechanism back in place - it slides effortlessly in the channel. As I explain in one of my videos - the slide mechanisms work better if you “fish” a rubber strap in the beam to help snap it back to center when you unclip it from the e track - when the bed is in the upper or lower position. One of the important issues is to give yourself room and cut the channel short enough to give you room to work with the “catch” or “lock” for the e track. I cut it 3” short but probably could have gone 4”. You need the space to work the “catch” system. The square channel you are cutting is all aluminum- pretty easy to cut with a hack saw - I have a porta-band saw that makes it easier- I used it a lot on this project. Yes, Michael - check out the bed video at about 11 minutes - this gives you a pretty good look at what I have done to hold the straps in place up high. I purchased the steel strap holders for my motorcycle boxes to allow me to hold loads in place on the bike. They worked out great for the 4 straps that allow the bed to raise and lower. I did end up with a boat wench on the bed. I will probably upgrade the wench to a more expensive hand wench but the one on it is from Harbor Freight. studio.kzread.infobrCxXxlBJW0/edit

Martin - I tried to show in pictures the best I could but it was a modification on one side of the wench. I used a hole saw - I think 1 1/4” and extended the 1” pipe that the straps connect to thru the beam and thru the 1 1/4” hole on the side of the wench. The shaft of the wench fit into the 1” pipe the straps roll up on to lift or lower the bed. With the pipe over the shaft of the wench - I drilled a 1/4” hole thru the pipe & the shaft on the wench. I installed a bolt and fiber nut on it. The bolt is the connection for the shaft & 1” pipe.

Yes, Fast - 7’ wide X 16’ long X 7’ tall w/ additional 32” V nose on front. I have the longer tongue. Total length is just shy of 23 foot with the longer tongue & V nose.

Thanks, Pearl - hopefully he will find this answer: I’ve got about 20.0k in the build. I went big on the solar - over 4.0k. Building the lithium battery from 16 cells cost just under 2.0 but purchasing 4 -12v lithium batteries could have easily been twice that and I’ve got nearly twice the power. It was not cheap but I have what I wanted. The trailer cost me $6,000.00 two years ago. That same trailer is now about $10,000.00. So all in I’m a little over 30.0k

It is good but no functional, if you release the back bed lock first, you have 2 option jump over the matress or go out and around(do not expect Raining) to release the front lock. Also too noise when driving.
