DIY Base Cabinet
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Come join me in my first ever attempt at building a cabinet! I'll share what I did that worked and what I'd do differently next time.
Sorry for the sound quality, I've been struggling with my mic connecting to my phone and so it's just using the phone microphone and doesn't sound as good. Hopefully I can get this resolved soon :)

It makes me happy seeing how excited you are about doing this your first time. I am building cabinets myself for the first time on both sides of the fireplace with bookshelves, and this is how I've felt putting it together. You literally can do anything, and you'll do a great job. Hi from ATL!

Hi!! Good luck on your project! Yes, you can do anything. We are so lucky that we can literally learn how to do anything we want online for free
New subscriber. I laughed at something you said…it was my father who taught me how to hold a flashlight for someone who is working. I remember it exactly. Nice memory.

Hahaha! I saw a meme once that said "You can't hurt my feelings, I used to hold the flashlight for my dad" I think of that meme all the time :)
Great job for your first cabinet. Love your shirt!!

@@YouCanDIYHome do you sell them?
Keep doing your thing. And thanks for sharing. You don't have a $20,000 shop and you're working on your floor. I hope the wife doesn't see your video because I have everything you have plus a bit more and she's been begging for a custom kitchen island for months. I have a suggestion. @21:07 I can see that you nailed the drawer from the front. You should've nailed it from the side so it is not prone to fall apart after repetitive pulling.

Thanks for the tip, definitely lots of little tweaks I will make next time!
Listen, I have no idea why this video was suggested to me, but I watched it anyway. I was super happy to see your excitement when you started and shared this video with my niece (who I'm trying to talk into doing diy woodworking too). I'm definitely gonna follow your journey and subscribed to make sure I don't miss anything. Also, I loved your shirt ( 10:05 )! This should be a lot of fun, best wishes! 🤘🤘🤘 Edit: Just checked out the channels and I see that you've been doing this for a while. Amazing! 🎉

Thank you so much for your kind comment! I appreciate you! And thanks on the shirt! Is it that capitalism one? Popped in my head a few years ago so we started making them 😀😀

@@YouCanDIYHome it was the capitalism shirt! You made that, now I'm hoping that you have a store as well. I'll check things out here in a bit! I'm starting to feel like I've been missing out and that the algorithm hit the ball out of the park with the suggestion yesterday. Have an amazing day! 😁

We’ve just used PayPal/venmo so far. I’m hoping to get a store up (we have a garment printer) I’ve just never gotten to it :)
You are so beautiful and hard worker!!! Good job!!! 👍🏻🙌🫶
Thanks. Nice cabinet. Mine clear the floor by 3 - 1/8”, which is too short. 3 - 1/2” is enough clearance for an iRobot vacuum.

Good to know! I have a rental with handmade cabinets and the vacuum won’t fit under the base and I have to use the wand, they are very short.
Great Job. Very enthusiastic. keep up the good work!

Thank you so much!!!
Great job, Emily! You needed a custom fit, but DIYing a standard fit would probably still be a lot cheaper than any premade anywhere, and you know what it's made of. That's the thing about Amazon. There are so many cheaply made, no-name clones, and clones made to look nearly exactly like name brands in every way, that you never know what you'll get. You didn't even get instructions. eBay has been horrible about this for decades, but Amazon is doing it now, too. I hope you were able to return them. Having Prime basically assures that and I usually get free return shipping. I always go through Customer Service for returns because some sellers never reply to requests or even presale questions.

AMAZING!! .. You just did what I'm about to do (to make kitchen cabinet, no experience). Could you please do a cost breakdown video and how much time u spend etc?
@YouCanDIYHome

I can do a cost breakdown :) I am finishing the mudroom/laundry room area and then I will make one. Time, I'm not sure. I few hours a day over a couple of days. But the second one went faster as I got a hang of things.
Thanks for sharing this build.. Great video. What microphone are you using?
@YouCanDIYHome

Thank you! It’s a Rhode. I think it may be the cable that attaches the receiver side to my phone so I ordered a new one of those. Hoping that’s all it is!
What microphone do you use for your voiceovers? It sounds nice and clear.
@YouCanDIYHome

I just use my cellphone mic for voiceovers with no competing sound around. On site I use a Rhode, it’s just not linking to my receiver. I ordered a new cord to adapt the receiver to my phone and I’m hoping that will fix it 🤞🏼
4:17 I love that we can see your hair is full of sawdust…that’s how we know that you’re legit.

Why are there stickers on the inside lower cabinet doors?
@YouCanDIYHome

The plywood has whatever that “causes cancer in the state of California” warning that they put on everything now. Which was annoyingly difficult to remove.
Why didn't you use wood glue?
@YouCanDIYHome
4 ай бұрын
I wanted to make sure everything fit together and wasn’t messed up first. I looked it up and what I could find said a pocket hole should be able to hold and that wood glue would help but wouldn’t be necessary. I definitely will use it in the future. This was kind of just a trial run in a cabinet in an area that won’t get a lot of wear and tear. I was worried I’d mess up and have to take it back apart and not be able to :). I ended up glueing the doors, drawer,and support beams as I got more comfortable and was toward the end.
