    Thank you so much for this video! I was about to give up on the whole mitered tile idea but I’ll give it another shot! I had a question though the example you did was on a factory finished edge but how do you clean up the cut you made with the big saw and get rid of those little microchips in the edge without chipping it more, does the polishing pad work for that?

  • @YouCanDIYHome
    @YouCanDIYHomeКүн бұрын

    You can use a polishing pad on a grinder or a hand polishing pad. I have both sets in multiple grits. Depending on how prone to chipping the tile is or how different the color of the front is from the interior body, you can kind of tell which one seems to work better.

    that looks real good. when we did the upstairs, for the first room we took off the baseboards, and decided that was just too much. after that we followed your technique.

    To each their own. On renovation I can let shoe molding slide. On brand new builds. No reason for shoe or 1/4 round molding. All those trim do is collect dirt on top. Two scenarios I would keep the baseboard on. Old antique woodwork on a very old house. (But even so I might try to R&I) 2: baseboards with 5 layers of caulk and paint on them. Other then those two factors I always remove base. I cringe when brand new builds have them. To me is just an added expense the builder charge to more so rip you off.

    Good job. I have built many custom homes and they all use Quarter round. It is a legit architectural design detail. I don't think it's a "cheat or hack". I personally like the real 3/4"x3/4" round with tall base board. Shoe is ok with shorter baseboards or a cheaper project. Good video

  • @YouCanDIYHome

    This was definitely a shorter one here. Don’t know if it’s my favorite design with a shorter trim. But for the timeline we had, this was the way to go :)

    Be cheaper an easier to drive concrete nails than tapcons. I did some of mine and just did it in multiple layers and used double head 8s and some finish nails. Leaving them in last layer and then before continuing, wrapped wire around all the nails all directions. Mixed up little crete and worked great.

    I would suggest that after you let the foam set, then razor it flush, you apply a layer of plastic wood, sand with 150 grit sanding sponge, another layer, and sand, then use a bonding primer, and paint over the door with two coats. You will never know that it happened.

    Ok to add on to this. That tapping block will damage your vinyl. A pull bar will work better with a piece of the actual floor to use as a tapping block. Or just a hammer with the piece of floor. Also to make things even easier you would split that jam with a seam. And it’s about 50/50 rather I’ll still take the trim off while installing. Some scenarios is almost impossible install a plank without damaging something just trying to get under a door trim in a super tight spot. Coincidentally it’s usually the very last plank in the tightest corner with two different jams going on. Either way, keep up the fantastic work! 👍👍

  • @YouCanDIYHome
    @YouCanDIYHome15 күн бұрын

    I agree on using a piece of the actual floor! That’s usually your best bet. This block actually slides into the click and lock a bit- it’s a weird shape- as long as you don’t let it bounce out of place on the first tap.

    How did you know to replace the entire flush assembly versus only replacing the flapper and amall O ring washer at the top of the unit where the chain connects to the flush handle? I'm asking because our Champion loses water from inside the tank. If the entire flush system needs to be replaced, wouldn't most of the water empty from the tank? Whereas if it's just the flapper that needs to be replaced, then if water stops leaking once the water level drops below the flapper and the tank no longer loses water. Would that indicate that it's the flapper that needs to be replaced?
