DIY Automotive Rotisserie Build - Mounting The 65 Thunderbird

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The day has finally come to mount my 65 Thunderbird on the new rotisserie, it took a bit of work to get it balanced, but in the end, I got it done.

Alvin, Excellent to the max, my friend. It works sooth as silk. And it really didn't take long at all. That kind of detail can't be done over night. You're a true craftsman! Regards, John

Thank you John. ☺ I'm pretty sure if a guy went at it, and were set up like a fab shop, this could be built in about man 12hrs, which isn't to bad. I am very happy with the spindle and hub set up...it's overkill, but it rotates very nice, think pipe would have been pretty good also, but this was the least expensive for my situation. If I were going to make another one, I would be watching out for some old farm equipment built with square tube, and wheel hubs.

Quite an accomplishment with the rotisserie. Perhaps the only 65 Bird ever to get a rotisserie rebuild. This should keep you busy up there in the frozen north for the winter.

Thank you Jeff, I've been searching the KZreads for another channel that has put one of these 64-66 T-Birds on a rotisserie, but not finding anything, likely it has been done, just never recorded and posted, but maybe mine is a first! Lol

Hiya Alvin! Well you convinced me, I’m gonna build one for my bel air. And who knows, I’ll even make other connections for my son’s T-Bird for whenever he decides to go all in. I figured around $700, and if you can do it for a little less well then, I’ll just start getting the metal a little here, and a little there, so there isn’t such a sticker shock. Thanks for inspiration, and as always I look forward to your next video!

Hey Troy, go for it! Yes, gathering up the steel ahead will help, and keep watch for sales on bolts! Lol Now that I will never have to build another...I've been seeing a lot of old farm equipment in local auctions, they are going for pretty much scrap metal prices, and a lot of them have pretty much everything needed to make one of the rotisseries.

Thanks Alvin. I have to admit, I had some doubt as to the stability of the design. Now that it is about done and tested I can see that it will work just fine. Taking the time to build the rotisserie, will pay off saving your back, knees and convienance. Well done! Walt

Hi Walt, I was unsure as well, this was a first for me. I'm already feeling more excited about working on the T-Bird...it all seem like less work now, than it did before. Lol

Outstanding sir! I know you've got some hours into this but I believe you'll make it all back in time saved working on the car now. Very, very impressive! Thank you again for showing us the process ~ Chuck. P.S. If I may - prayers for your family.

Hi Chuck, I was enjoying the flexibility of the rotisserie today while working on the rear driver side torque box...I should have built or bought one a long time ago. Thank you, my wife is having a hard time with her Mom's health decline.

Great job Alvin, well done. Very interesting project, I enjoyed it. Sorry about your wifes mom. I just lost my mom in April, very sad. Ive seen many friends and family pass and its very hard. The older you get the more it happens. Saying good bye to pets is just as bad. Anyway, thanks for the videos.

Thank you Nick, I'm sorry to hear you lost your Mom, it is hard losing family members...pets included. My Mom passed away a couple of years ago, and Dad is getting up there...you think they will always be there, but that not how life works. 😔

Thank you Matt, I am very pleased with the out come. At the stage you are with your T-Bird, you'll do just fine, I still have a ton of work to do on the underside, and the rotisserie build will have made that easier. I you are planning to do more full restorations, then maybe it would worth your while to invest some time and money into a rotisserie.

Excellent job, I saw where you added the extra extensions on the front attachment. You seem to have her balanced really well. That's something I never did get right on mine. I could flip the Mustang up on it's side but it was not easy. You could tell that it was in a bind or something.

Smooth ! That turned out real nice. How about drilling and installing a bolt threw your center of balance upright , so the Thunderbird body can not slip down while you are under it. Just a thought.

I agree, and I did that yesterday...it also doubles as reference point should I need to reinstall on the car at some point in the future.

Hello Alvin. Fantastic job! I for one would watch a Ranchero rebuild. Sometimes it's not just the vehicle, but the work that goes into it. Many tips and tricks to be learned. Was wondering where all that loose rust is as you rotate her. You seemed to have opened all the areas that could trap rust? George B

Thank you George, it is amazing on how much dirt and debris is in these old cars, I thought I had gathered it mostly up too...but yet, there is still more! I think this is where an acid dip would be a benefit, I'll just keep rolling it from side to side until it stops. 🙄

Good to know Paul, I really need to get the Ranchero done, and I may have to fit it in from time to time. I have quarters and rockers for it, so it will be an easier project than the T-Bird.
