DIY Archery Target Backstop Test (Does it Stop an Arrow?)

Спорт

Chris recently built a DIY Archery Target Backstop for shooting in his shop. In this episode Chris will be testing a KZread Concept using easy to find materials. This backstop was inspired by other KZread videos. Chris is shooting a Hoyt RX-3 with a draw weight of 70 lbs, with 496 grain Easton FMJ arrows and Rage practice field points. Will this concept pass the test and stop an arrow traveling more than 300 feet per second at 5 yards? Or will Chris be making major repairs to his shed.
This will be the first of a series of videos on Archery related topics.

the best target i have used has been compressed cardboard layers , we used all thread and 2x12 frame and a couple hundred layers of cardboard stacked and compressed with the all thread . the layers stop the arrows with friction between layers and lasts for years . no scuffing or residue on the arrow , just do not use waxed cardboard the arrows will not come out . the stacked cardboard target we used had paper targets pinned to the front for practice for an indoor dot shoot . use a good foam deer target for broadhead practice , they have trouble pulling out of the cardboard and inserts pull out .

horizontal velocity is independent of vertical! same stopping power, because the arrows enter at a different angle they travel different distances thru the rubber, therefore different penetration! great video my man, thank you! i am going to look into picking up some 2x4 and a rubber mat tomorrow!

I need an opinion, I was asked this evening if a 1/4" rubber mat would work behind a hay bale if the arrows are target arrows fired off of a 30# draw fiberglass bow? I thought that is would be plenty of thickness but would like to hear your input.

  • @After5Outdoors

If you're saying the horsemat can damage your arrows why are you shooting your arrows into them lol? I shoot the same exact arrows. FMJ 340 11.3 5mm and I have a horse mat I use as a backstop as well. The horsemat I use is less than 3/4" thick. It's like 7/8". Since mine is thinner and if the FMJs are made of aluminum and durable material, do you think my horse mat would still damage the arrows?
