    I make my own targets. A good size cardboard box and compress used shrink wrap that you get for nothing from a supermarket (they are more than happy to give as much as you want). Then tape it up tightly and you have a cheap well made target. I just put new cardboard on the face and back.

    This was a great series. I had just got into bow hunting this year and I had a styrofoam target I was using and was wanting to get a better target moving forward. This series came just in time. I bought a rinehart for the durability in the long run and I’m happy with my purchase. Great videos. Thank you.

    After seeing every video in this series and seeing this video, or made me realize there's actually a market forall the different targets! It just depends on what you're shooting and what you're looking for. Thanks Kramer for the series! I've used a couple of these that you showed, your reviews were pretty spot on with my experiences. And I actually see which I've I wasn't too try next.

    I love my Yellow Jacket bag, gets lots of use hanging from a target hanger I built from PVC, I also have a deer, turkey and pig target that are great for simulating hunting shots. I use the 18-1 Rhinehart for bringing to hunting camp for verifying sights etc or for idle work in camp, often times I like to get two or three shots in before heading out on an evening hunt, just to make sure everything's working right.

    The Morrells(Yellow Jacket) are fantastically reusable, the fibers/cloth never truly break down. When they lose their oomph you can buy a new cover and stuff anything from landscaping cloth to old clothes into them to fill them out again. It also helps longevity if you take the targets down and jump/stomp on them rearrange/flatten it. I've also taken the innards from some and put them into a "Third Hand Rag Bags" cover as well. Rag bags use a much more resilient material similar to bulk grain bags and it holds up to compounds much better then the standard Morrell cover.

    Bulldog is the best field tip target, easiest to pull and lifetime free replacement faces. They have sales all the time making them very affordable too. A notable mention to Rinehart - I broke a sevr inside their 18-1 target when it caught the nylon rope handle inside the foam, and they sent me a replacement target no charge. Btw sevr also sent me a replacement broadhead too.

    I find that using 6 horse stall mats all put back to back & painting them with any style target ,broad heads or field points I’ve never had a pass through & I have a friend that shoots & 65 pound draw compound bow at them with around a 8 inch deep penetration & no pass through . Horse stall mats are some of the thickest rubber I’ve ever used & over & over , shot after shot it’s very hard to wear through even if the shots are in the same place over & over , it’s like shooting at a self healing rubber or something .

    Great idea (really - despite my list of cons below for my purposes) but it’s SO not portable at all… 💪 Went to go look if this would work for me (live in an apartment and need something easy, and fairly large for the kids who are learning). At Tractor Supply you can get a thick rubber horse stall mat for ~$60: Dimensions: 4' x 6' x 3/4" Weight: 94 Pounds Tensile Strength: 321psi (pounds per square inch) to determine strength Shore Hardness: 65 (using a sharp pin cone to see how much pressure before causing damage to item.) Tear Resistance 122.5 lbs/in. Yeah, that’s tough stuff for sure. 94lbs! 6 of them you say? 🏋️‍♂️😂🤣😂 But… One that’s cut into 2’x2’ squares (you’d have 6 layers then) and glued together wouldn’t be bad though still heavy and I’d need a frame to put it in so it stands up. The kids bows are 20-30lb which may very well bounce off. If I get a place at some point and can build a backyard stationary target I’m think this has great potential. Thanks!

  • @robertlee8400

    @robertlee8400

    7 ай бұрын

    @@rawr6306 yea it’s very heavy , I mean 6 horse stall mats yup , mine happens to be permanently stationary & I even found horse stall mats that are 8 foot by 4 foot I have 2 targets 1 is 8 foot by 8 foot & my other is 4 foot tall 8 foot wide , I mostly use them for back stops because I shoot at 3D targets . I have around 100 yards to shoot from so I can get any range dialed in if need be & over the years I’ve bought well over 60 different 3D targets , I had to build a big shed to put all of them in. If you ever build one using horse stall mats I can give you some advice on how to build them , try to stay away from wood for a frame to build around because over time wood will start to sag & warp , learned that the hard way , use bolts & nuts & washers to mount it to the frame . In a few weeks I have a friend who wants to come over to see if he can penetrate clean through my backstop , he owns a 200 pound bow & I think he’s definitely going through it . If you need a good starter target for kids go & buy a big white cardboard box & some cheap carpet & cut the carpet to the boxes inside dimensions & fill it up piece by piece , you can always go out a buy cheap paper targets & tape them to the box , that what I started on well over 30 years ago .

    Honestly your target review is great. One thing I would add though is rotate your target 1-2" off of perpendicular this helps for when you are shooting in the center and will make the target last a bit longer. I know for OCD people like myself it's a hard concept but does save on 6 sided target life. Thanks.

    Great info. I've tried quite a few targets with my recurve and compound and for broadheads the Blob targets are hard to beat. They are heavy and super durable and a good price, pulling broadheads back out isn't very difficult, but pulling field points out is very hard. I had a Rinehart block before and I would shoot out an insert in a few months shooting broadheads into it. For field points my favorite targets are my DIY 36x36x16 stuffed with old pallet wrap and using Third Hand Archery skins, and my Third Hand Archery rag bag filled with old clothes. Super durable and very easy to pull arrows from. For 3D targets the Bigshot Realwild targets are fantastic for the price. I also like to get the blem targets from Rinehart on sale, but you need to make sure you get the higher quality models. The Woodland series animals were awful and I shot the insert out on a Jimmy Big Tine in less than 3 weeks using only field points.

    Bought my first compound bow in July, wore out the layered block, then got the Morris Bag, and a $125 3d deer target and then the Block (greenish 6 sided) too funny you seemed to be explaining what I was learning first hand. Now I shoot at the 3 targets each round as I practice, allowing me to shoot 9 arrows at whatever distance. That way I don't kill em too quick.

    I use that yellow jacket 5-dot layered cube with the two broadhead and 2 field point faces. My crossbow get broadheads just on the outside of the rear face and if thats your scenario, you can unscrew the broadheads, pull the shaft out and reattach the broadhead so the stripping of material when you pull out isn't so intense. Once you get broadheads passing through enough to do that, you actually get a bit of a break on the target and get even more longevity.

    I want to add my one data point. I have a Block Classic, and the red plastic shrinkwrap around the whole block is NOT UV protected. Left it out in the sun and that red plastic started to deteriorate quickly. Otherwise the interior target space is a nice product, you just have to make sure you bring it out of the sun after every session. I covered mine in duct tape and that's helped it maintain structural integrity.

    One thing thats important to note is a lot of these targets have replaceable parts. The bag targets you can order a new bag, you can kind of rearrange the middle and then slip the new bag over the old bag. Additionally rinehart has a more expensive target with a replaceable core. These should lower the cost per arrow for those types of targets much more over time.
