    Awesome that dude, doing the exact same myself and then stumbled on your video! Using an old Windows LINX tablet and went the route you went firstly, look into Android TV, it's software designed for new Smart TV's, people are porting them to PC and Tablets, a lot smoother and sleeker! Great work again!

    I’m wondering if this could work with my spare and unused iPhone 6s, the only thing wrong with that phone is that the backlight is extremely dull, so the screens visible when I shine a torch on it or mirror using 3u tool, so not sure if it would affect this project

    DepT _ ToxiC Apple devices are not the best for this kind of project but i believe that you can connect to a wireless display and then use a bluetooth mouse using the new accessibility function in ios 13. The problem is that you still have to use the touchscreen of the phone to enable the wireless display and the mouse accessibility function.

    The chips are usually pressed against the case with thermal pads so adding a layer of aluminium should prevent hot spots that air cooling alone may not.

  • @diytech2001

    @diytech2001

    3 жыл бұрын

    It is true, but in my case I used an aluminium radiator for the chips that were covered by the aluminium foil. The radiator actually heats when I use the tv box so it does transfer heat. I don't think that the fan was actually necessary but it lowers the temperature and was fun to build.

    @@diytech2001My bad for not noticing; that's even better, and would make a significant temperature difference in combination with your ingenious air routing creating a surprisingly powerful air flow exactly where it's needed. It looked like the board ended up resting on the battery, did the inside of the box end up a little too small to fit it properly or did I also not see that correctly?

    @@MadScientist512 Yes, the board is resting on top of the battery but the battery section is slightly deeper. I wanted the box to be square. The hole box could have been about 10 mm thinner but the MDF i used was 40mm thick and i left it like that.

    Thank you, sadly this is not a viable recycling method because most phones and tablets do not support video out. I was lucky that my tablet had hdmi out. I did not add much to the motherboard of the tablet, only a cooling fan that was powered by the screen inverter ( you can adjust the fan speed by adjusting the screen brightness). That is all i did. You will find that it is possible in every android mobile phone just some change and your video is applicable in all android mobile phones and ios mobile phones too that is making ios tv box . I have just send you the link for type b ,there is existence of such for type c micro usb . you should encourage people in making old smartphones into android / ios tv box rather if the specs of the phone is good by using such more cable we can add usb port too in any phone and that can be used as a best emulator for playing games like PUBG call of duty . if possible by doing a bit of research with cable wiring you can encourage people in making home made reusable product. i my self interested in making this project but i was not able to get how and where to start from . From your video I got the lead to start. www.amazon.com/TOTU-Ethernet-Delivery-Portable-Laptops/dp/B07FX2LW35 this can also be use.

    Simran Deep Not all tablets are suited for this... it is preferable to use a tablet that has hdmi out or MHL Cable support. The cooling fan is not required. I only used it in my build to help the proccessor. If you tablet does not have hdmi out or is not MHL enabled then is pretty hard to get video signal form the screen connector on the motherboard to a TV. It all depends on your tablet. The best thing you can do is to search on google if someone has allready done this using your tablet model.

    crazy scooby is your screen completely broken or just the touch part? If only the touch screen is broken you can use a mouse connected to the micro usb port on the phone to enable bluetooth and then connect a bluetooth keyboard with touchpad. After this you can disconect the usb mouse and then attach the MHL cable for video output and start using the phone as a tv box. If your screen is completely broken, then it is a little harder. I believe there is a type of MHL standard that supports usb OTG together with video output. This might not be supported by your phone. You will have to check on forums for the exact model of phone that you have or check which MHL standard your phone supports. Good luck! I hope my answer helps you.

    unfortunately yes....most of them don't have hdmi out. It could have helped give them a second use... but also most people don't use it anyway...

    @@diytech2001 i thought maybe convert the ribbon cable out of tablet motherboard to HDMI, i guess the afford isn't worth. some tablets work also over mini usb OTG to HDMI adapters , and meanwhile for diy mini projects.. a "Nvidia jetson nano 2 gb"cost only 50€ and can run 4k Vids ^^

    it could be done... but it surely it is not worth it. I've seen some people do that...but it's way too complicated for me

    How to power it

  • @diytech2001

    @diytech2001

    Strange Gamer Depends on how your tablet/phone is made but you should be able to power it directly on the motherboard with 3.7v power supply. Some devices only need two wires ( like mine did) but some have other comunication wires from the battery charge module on the battery. If you have a bad battery you can take the charging circuit from it and connect the power supply to the charging circuit and then the charging circuit to the battery terminals on the motherboard.

    @@pragyanmehta7331 You should check on forums about your tablet model. Maybe you can find relevant info there. I also check forums and google when I build stuff. I don't even know what tablet you have so I can't give you advice without knowing that. The best thing you can do is to search battery related topics about your tablet on google and you might find pictures that describe what each wire does.

    Strange Gamer Usb voltage is 5V and the motherboard requires 3.7V. You might fry the board using 5V from usb charger.
