CDFA small fee for their service? Depends on where you live I guess...I was given the amount of $1500.00 and we have hardly anything to divide. House, TSP, ROTH acct. I guess that is $mall compared to $15,000-$30,000 fighting over money. I didn't like that it was his "set fee" and mine situation isn't that complicated --- no custody or child support. I am also having a hard time finding a lawyer that will draw up an agreement with all of the paperwork you mention, and providing them with facts. They (5) hate when I ask, "can I hire you to draw up a document?". They insist that I retain them, from 3,000 to 5,000. Thing is, I don't need them to defend me per say, because we are doing mediation. I just need their assistant (using their template and filling in the blanks) to type up the agreement, and I can bring that "legal document" to the mediation table. THen I will return and they can look at the final for errors, then file it and VIOLA' we're done! Is it so much to ask that I need to go 'that mediation table', prepared, laying out all the facts of what I want, fair and amicable ... adhering to my state laws. NO GAMES ! Not one lawyer will do it, it's always about $$$! Quite Frankly... I they act like NARCI$$I$T'$ ! Should I just get those docs from the CDFA and call it a day!? That doesn't seem realistic. What are your thoughts?

Did you hire a licensed Mediator? Actually, the job of the Mediator is to help you draft the agreement. Then once you and your soon-to-be-ex have agreed to everything you simply pay a Lawyer for a review to make sure your interests are protected and/or the Agreement is binding. But it's the Mediator who should be doing the preliminary work.

Yes, I like these videos and this man seems legit. However, most lieyers are just about billable time / getting in large retainer fees. You could read precedent cases on Westlaw (monthly fee to use this search engine but would be worth it); you can buy an up to date $300 family law precedent text book; up to date $300 family legislation text books. $300 blacks law dictionary. Do the work yourself. How much is your time worth compared to lieyers fees.
