What is Mediation in Divorce Why your most Expensive Decision is Also your Worst: Lawyer vs. Mediator. At Least Talk to A Mediator Before Retaining an Attorney because by far, attorneys are the biggest expense you're going to have in your divorce.
As a divorce coach I've seen families tear each other apart through the legislative process and that's in no fault states where there shouldn't be disputes. We hire a lawyer but by nature it's their job to escalate the process all in the name of protecting you. But the value they bring does not justify the price because in family law, expect mediocrity from your attorney
Divorce doesn't have to be as painful as your separation. So I ask you please keep an open mind put your pride aside and at least talk to a mediator before retaining a lawyer.
Mediation costs about 5k per couple and usually a 4 month process. Traditional divorce costs upwards of 20k per person and even years of litigation.
I'll be interviewing Divorce Mediator Michael Cohen. He worked as a CPA but he found his calling through mediation. As I interview Michael,,, watch his style, watch how gifted he is in staying neutral even when he didn't need to and how he maintained his composure even when he got personal.
As CPA Michael knows division of assets, but his north start is the protection of the children and I suppose that's every mediator's north star.
