    I have divided watching this video into two parts in order to have something wonderful to look forward to today.I have neither of these plants because I travel frequently and I need plants that are not heavy drinkers .For now I'll stick to orchids ,hoyas and sansevierias mostly but...I'll keep these beauties in mind...Thank you for another extra video... Greetings from cold,snowy Poland,Irena

    Loved this video. It made me investigate what was going on with my Peacock prayer plant and not be afraid to harm the roots. Good thing I did, it had root rot. I cut the dead roots off, rinsed them and repotted it into a smaller pot. It did have some of that fabric plug stuck on it as well. I am hoping it recovers, it is a favorite of mine. I use a Dollar Tree kitty litter box for repotting. It helps keep the mess in check. I also have a boot tray I use when I unpot a plant.

    Thank you for this. I bought some "starter plants" online at the beginning of this year. They are basically a tiny plant that was grown in a plug and the plug is all that is there at the time. The instructions say not to touch the plug or roots, as you said the fabric should degrade and also the roots can grow through it. After months of little to no growth, and some dead plants, I finally figured I had nothing to lose and I not only took the fabric off but I also rinsed the super dense, peat-like plug dirt off of the roots. After that I FINALLY have some good growth! I have some new starter plants coming and I think I will give them a couple of weeks to acclimate and recover from shipping. Then I plan to remove the plugs and soil right away. Fingers crossed!

    Great video! Somehow I've been lucky with my plants in that the only ones that had plugs came 'bare root' so it was easy to see the plug. Your knife looks like a hori hori knife. I love mine! I also want to thank you for explaining about the clear nursery pots in previous videos. I tried them and they are great! No more guessing games on when to water or repot! Thank you! 💛💚💙

    here in my area all plants, including the 20 or so Calathea I bought in the last year arrive with the fabric plug around the middle rhizome, I usually remove all soil including the fabric few weeks after the plant has been bought, for some plants I spent a good couple of hours cleaning up the roots

    Ugghhhh those death plugs. I don’t understand why they can’t just pull them off when they’re potting the plants up. Also 3 cheers for that knife! I say it’s your new mascot - no one messes with The Plant Divider!

    🤣🤣🤣 biodegradable! 🤣🤣🤣 Who are they kidding! But what's worse? Foam plugs! On a phalaenopsis orchid! No I'm not kidding. I bought two orchids at the start of the year, they arrived in orchid pots and planted in bark. They finished flowing so I repotted them. I had one surviving root on one and thankfully the other one was shooting out new roots because I had to remove all the old roots. It was very deceptive because I could see healthy green roots, but they were beyond hope inside the plug. 🙄 I know other people have mentioned your 'that's not a knife; this is a knife!' I'm surprised your plants didn't divide themselves after seeing that 🤣. I love how you self talk all the way through, it puts everything into perspective and makes it easier when I'm doing the same task... What did Drea say? Oh that's right! Have a great week, looking forward to seeing the updates

    I don't know why people don't buy those plants. I don't have any prayer plants yet, but after you do the update, I'll 100% buy the one you repotted into the green nursery pot at 53minutes. I love it and would rather get one from a reputable plant lover than a big box store. Is there a way I can contact you so we can keep in contact until that one is ready? If it's not already called for?

    What is a frabic plug

  • @AlohaPlantLife

    @AlohaPlantLife

    7 ай бұрын

    The bane of my existence lol. Just kidding, but not really. It’s a bit of fabric that they wrap around the substrate and root area of a seedling in order to make it easier to transfer to another pot once it’s big enough without disturbing the roots and causing less shock. But the problem is they don’t biodegrade like they’re supposed to, and they end up choking the roots off and killing the plant. The substrate inside of the plug is also often different from what’s outside of the plug so people end up unknowingly overwatering the plant and causing root rot because the substrate inside of the plug is staying wet longer than the substrate outside of it.
