I just turned 58 and tired of the routine of work. Really grateful to my creator for the sustenance. So I admire and am inspired by your courage. Also pondering on doing something I'm passionate about, creating vertical gardens that I create for family and friends at present.

I thought labeling toxicity on each would be helpful to people. I hope everyone just remembers that even if it’s non-toxic if a pet were to like eat the WHOLE plant they will likely still get sick. I feel like that’s probably why a lot of other sites don’t label them is because of liability concerns.

Of course it is scary after 17 years in corporate world…. but just remember - you can always return to corp world if you needed to. I am sure you will begin to feel more comfortable once the business starts developing. I would suggest to get some t-shirts, coffee cups with Aloha Plant life logo and added some wording plant related or picture of monstera leaf, etc. Try several different ones before you order a lot of same merch inventory to see how it goes. Congrats, Drea! I would love some funky trellises, like CIRCULAR/SPIRAL ones. I have a Baltic Blue that grows so wide and a pretty, spiral, not too conspicuous wood look trellis would be amazing to help guide everything up, not trailing.

This is ultimately similar to what I’d like to do! I’ve more than doubled the number of plants I own in the last month, and would like to start propagating and selling them, I’m just not sure where yet 😅

I've been binging your content lately. While I can keep my tomatoes alive through 115 degree summers - houseplants under my care meet a sad fate. I'll be moving from Dallas County to Van Zandt county in a few months and I was thinking of buying some plants from you then. I have a Moonlight that I bought from Lowes that looked like absolute hell. Every leaf was burned or had holes. It was on the reduced shelf. I brought it home, repotted it right away, fed it, picked off half the leaves, and did every leaf that it produced, I picked off another bad leaf. It looks GORGEOUS now. I've had it for 2 years. It lives in my solarium with 90% + humidity. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with it. I was going to send you a Thai Con, but it sounds like you have one. I have a Circus Peanut on its way and some other super rare (I know you hate that word) stuff. I'll send you a list, and you can pick something from those. Hope you're well. Love Toby!! I am so glad I saw this. I have been pondering the same thing, and I am at a crossroads myself. I have the money to start my business, but I have been dragging my feet because I was scared. I am going for it. I already have some pretty rare stuff, and I have a green thumb, a greenhouse, and a room in my house that has tropical humidity. This was the push I needed.

What about holding informational classes, maybe your local library has a room where you could being starter plants to sell and charge for the class and bring a more mature specimen for people to see...or slides to show. I'd go if I lived close!

Ideas of things to sell or offer/partner with someone else who sells: - nursery pots in a variety of sizes, responsibly sourced, from plastic that is not gross or smelly - cache pots, also responsibly sourced, possibly from local creators - other things from local creators like propagation stations, plant hangers, etc. (Things you may not have to buy but serve as a middle person to connect to the seller?) The biggest headache for me has been to reliably find the supplies I need for my plants as they grow. Amazon has been such a crapshoot, and I have gotten some real bad deals on some poor quality supplies. I do worry that the effort expended in these kinds of sales may not be worth it compared to what you get in profit, but it’s a train of thought. :)

Hi, I have a question about ordering from Aroidasia, do you have to have an import license, or is it just the duties through DHL you have to pay? I have wanted to do this, but I’m unsure what I need and it isn’t very clear. Thank you in advance!

That is a difficult question to answer at the moment because they are currently in the process of trying to convert to using a broker for U.S. shipments. If they do move to solely using the broker, then the answer is no, you won’t need an import license. If they don’t switch to solely using a broker, then you will need one. They just shipped me a package this week using the broker so we will see how it goes and I will film the unboxing and fill you in more.

I didn't get a chance to read through all the comments but for reference The reason why you don't want to spray end all to the point of runoff is for environmental reasons. Pyrethrin Is an extremely effective insecticide and for that reason allowing it to be used to the point of runoff would possibly risk native insects outside. For example if you were to spray your plant with the pesticide and it runs off enough into the soil next to a flowering plant that plant can absorb the pesticide through its roots and carry it within its pollen effectively harming your native be population or any other insect that may come in contact with that pollen. Pyrethrin also is extremely toxic to fish so if it were to run off and possibly contaminate a body of water and then that could be detrimental to the inhabitants of that ecosystem. Alternatively pyrethrin is very safe to use around dogs, But also very unsafe to use around cats, cats can have a very severe reaction to being around that pesticide extreme caution should be taken while using around cats or fish. That aside, I use pyrethrin spray for my plants and it works great, I also use permethrin (synthetic version of pyrethrin) spray on my clothing and outdoor gear because of its effectiveness at killing and repelling insects specifically mosquitoes and ticks. Side note permethrin spray can stay on your clothing through multiple washes for up to 6 months and continue to be effective. The stuff is super strong and works great but just be careful around your cats and fish.

Do you think you’ll get any backlash for having the “aloha” in domain name. I have seen restaurants sued for using aloha in their name that were not in fact a Hawaiian company? I am genuinely curious

You can’t sue a business for using words from another language in their business name unless they are from that culture. If you could La Madeleine restaurants wouldn’t exist (in fact, most French restaurant chains wouldn’t exist).

I'm happy you are using your unemployment as a opportunity to do what you are passionate about. I wish you luck n I will be a customer. Not sure if you like this idea, but what about gift cards too. My planty friends are always giving n getting gift cards.

Most of my videos aren’t this long I just had a lot to fill everyone in on and a lot of plants to unpack from that box. The full video prior to me editing it for you all was actually 3 hours and 15 minutes long. That’s how long it takes to unpack that many plants and get them cleaned up and into water. It was definitely an exhausting day💚

good luck with your endeavors. I love your motivation. i’ve always thought it would be fun to offer in-home plant services. another idea would be to offer plant care for businesses. 💚🪴💚🪴💚🪴
