Diversity is NOT a Supply Problem, It's a Leadership Problem!

Diversity is NOT a Supply Problem; it's a Leadership Problem!
In this enlightening and thought-provoking talk, Ginny Clarke, a seasoned executive recruiter, conscious leadership expert, and talent management professional, delves deep into the persistent issues surrounding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the corporate world. Drawing on her two decades of experience in the industry, she unearths the root causes of underrepresentation and offers insight into the misconceptions surrounding diversity in the workforce.
Highlighting the potential of underrepresented talent already present in the workforce, Ginny dismantles the myth that diversity issues stem from a supply shortage or a lowering of standards. She posits that the real problem lies with the leadership and their failure to tap into existing diverse talent pools, thereby limiting their organizations' potential for growth and innovation.
Ginny shares her personal experiences and insights from her time at Spencer Stewart and Google, and through her work with a speaker's bureau. She boldly proclaims, "You don't have a diversity problem, you have a leadership problem," emphasizing the need for leaders to foster a meritocratic environment and hold themselves accountable for diversity and inclusion.
Not only does she challenge current leaders to rethink their hiring and management practices, she also encourages individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to know their value and make a change from within.
This video is a must-watch for anyone interested in understanding the complexities of DEI in the corporate world and the steps we can take toward a more inclusive and equitable future. Tune in and join the conversation as we strive for change together.

Even when we do attend those institutions we struggle once we’re in the door of enterprises. This is because of the refusal to do things differently or to simply make space for those who think differently.

Same.. as someone who was clearly hired for tokenism purposes with a job title I have no qualifications for & told no training is available…. It has lead to anxiety, insomnia & depression. I can’t just vote with my feet as I have kids to provide for. I can’t just walk, because even finding a company to interview me was tough despite 2 degrees. Ginny is a God sent as she is instilling confidence in me.

Most people are prejudice. They put up a front of being inclusive, but they fear and will avoid anyone they see as different.

It’s very much a leadership problem. This is why we shouldn’t carry the burden of being immaculate in our performance. There is enough evidence favoring DEI. Leadership has to value it. If they valued it, our work environments would’ve been booming with diversity a long, long, time ago.

Insightful presentation. I appreciate it! Thank you! Sometimes you have to vote with your feet… yes… Target populations need the tools to operate in these spaces.

Really great content. I completely agree, been with my organisation for 13 yrs, still doing the same role with many horizontal moves. Will not be promoted despite being a high performer with much experience, skill and on going education.

I think managers hire on the basis of who will be the most compliant. For years, I was confused by why I was hired, but the managers did not feel comfortable with me. I also think as an African American Muslim ☪️ woman, I was seen as not having many options , as well assumed I would be docile. They learned otherwise. This includes Black mangers who were predominantly Christians ✝️.
